Easy, yes. I'm sure Nedim did this.

It's important IMO to get air through the windings on an outrunner. Can't see the benefit on an inrunner to do this with the spinner. Doesn't the Neu have a fan like the Hacker Comps anyway? I never ran a comp, but did run the 14xl's (didn't I buy one of your's Doug?) and never had the cooling through the spinner. But did have the standard inlets and ducts and didn't really have much problem. But, if there was a spinner like this available, I would probably get it. I cut diamonds outta my tru turn about 4+ years ago to try this and found it did help on my Axi. Others here in Cali have said that cutting the nose off the plastic spinners has cut 20 degrees off their temps. I haven't gone that far yet as I don't like the plastic spinners because of their looks. lol

Doug,

Do you remember the bec that you sold me also? Do you remember which one it was? The tag isn't legible on it as I think it was removed by tape, or tape adhesive. I'm thinking of going redundant with my Neptuno as I can afford the weight finally.

You going to come down to the Phx contest?

Thanks!

The BEC was the Ultimate BEC. Pretty sure I got it from Hobby Lobby. 3a continuous, 5a for up to 5 minutes. Unfortunately I don't think they're available anymore.

Visa update

Well the painting did not go as fast this week as I had hoped. One of the two painters was on vacation so Paola was by herself and it is a very difficult scheme not to mention the Onas´s she had to paint as well. She has done a excellent job I just saw the wings and stabs for the first time myself an hour ago. I had told Marcelo to surprise me which of course they did. The clear is drying at this time so I will not be able to post anymore pics until sometime late tonight my time. The fuse is ready.

More later

Thanks everyone for the comments that means a lot to everyone here. It will be in the crate on monday and I have been practicing almost everyday with the sister plane (Passport) lol We can´t wait for next weekend. BTW chime in if your going? Normally its a local contest for me but this time there is some travel involved. BA to Houston, Houston to LAX, Tony will pick me up with my truck, then to Lancaster, fly for the day and finally the drive to Phoenix. I am glad I will be there a couple days early as just thinking about that trip exhausted me LOL

Well guys the all paint Visa is finished and I just put it on the scale. With a 2 cell 780 reciever pack and TP 5000´s its 10.6 pounds. Nothing special was done to this model as a matter of fact since I built it myself it may be a tad heavier then the production planes. I am starving so no pics tonight but I will post a couple in the AM before I go fly it. KB I got you emails thanks

Thanks Mike and I hope you do I do not think you will be dissappointed. Today was probably one of the best days of flying I have ever had. We took out the new VIsa and after two short flights to set the stab incidence we flew 5 or 6 more smiling the whole time. I almost hate to say this publically but a good friend and long time modeler (Jim Kimbro thats right Mr Deception) told me when we were practicing a few weeks ago something that just may be very true. He said that once I fly a painted wing I will never go back.

Well I am not 100% sure if that is the case but let me just say the Visa was on rails today and we flew in all conditions. It started out hot, and muggy, then came the wind from our back blowing over a treeline. Talk about rough air you could feel on the ground lol. After the wind came some rain and then calm. The plane flew the same in all conditions. I had it set up the same as the first Visa and when I say the same I mean the exact servos out of the crash. The first plane I thought snapped incredibly good and I was actually worried about being able to duplicate that because the wings were so light. I have not weighed just the wings yet but I will tomorrow.

Anyway this plane is enough better that the first snap I did in P11 I heard all the guys gasp then Marcelo was right behind me asking what we did different. My answer was nothing. It wasn't really faster it just started and stopped with no wiggle at all. Everything else is the same as far as mix goes it has none with rudder just the standard 2% down elev. with throttle at idle and 2% left rudder half to the left at idle.

We flew it with TP5000's at 4.7 kilos and the new 45C TP4400's at 4.75 Kilos. What I do know now is that I can put another Battery support just behind the motor and run 4350's, go to the 480 or 350 TP 2cell reciever pack, an 8 channel reciever and light wheel pants and be under 10 pounds. Will I, I doubt it but it can be done. Gotta run the girls are waiting and it TGI fridays night lol.

I added a few pics

Enjoy

Chip

Hi Kevin,

The fan backplate is actually the spinner backplate. You can see a picture of it on one of the earlier posts. The ''spokes'' of the backplate are actually machined to act as a fan blade and help to pull air through the openings in the spinner and onto the motor. I would think that would really help Outrunner cooling.

Believe me this backplate idea does not work. We tried it a couple years ago and it didn't work at all.
I used to work for a major military electronics company for about 12 years as a design engineer and assistant mechanical manufacturing manager. We had a product (a proximity fuse) that generated power with a fan in a spinner like cone. So, we got the idea from this. Yes, it works with mach speed but certainly not with sub sonic at the lower end.
Sorry to disapoint you guys

Nedim
My rides not here yet and I almost forgot to mention this. The motor, Motor batt and controller were all luke warm after consecutive back to back flights. No inlets at all except through the spinner and only exhausting out the ducts in the tail. I do have two little slots in the chin but no deflector plate. They are there because the speed controller is mounted in the chin and would have no way to get any air.

It was only 90-95 today but I feel confident we have a cooling system that does work extremely well

Visa...

Chip...very, very impressive!

One of my favorite sayings goes something like this..."Natural ability will take you so far, but determination has no limits" and you sir are a fine example with this latest effort.

That thing is probably a real live wire with the 45C packs in it. I've been flying the Enerland 4400XF's (similar to the TP 45C) in my Passport and it really has a lot of punch. Funny thing is that I am only using between 3100 and 3600 on them and that is not nursing them along. I use up more capacity with my 15C and 25C packs to get the same type of flight.

The more I look at the Visa, the more it looks right to me. Flying it convinced me for sure, it is my type of plane. I'm really looking forward to getting it.

Steve.

Great job Chip. Can't wait to see it and see it fly.

Steve, it makes perfect sense that you will use less capacity with the 45C packs. There is less voltage drop so the system pulls less current. That is what I have seen every time I've gotten better batteries.

Gonna be flying tomorrow if you want to come up!
