RE: FUNJET

hey b1bman...that motor would be amazing in ur cf funjet...cuz wernt you talking to break 200 you would need 3000watts

bigdog5332 01-14-2010 06:16 PM

RE: FUNJET

ok i just put a 6x5.5 on the 2700kv six series and with 3s it went from 41 amps and like 430 watts wit the 6x4 and with the 6x5.5 it jumped to 59 amps and about 600 watts...is that to much for this motor. the esc is rated for 100 and the battery is 35c 2600mah so 91 amps

theb1bman 01-15-2010 09:52 AM

RE: FUNJET

it should handle it but just watch the heat on the motor
I am not sher about e-flite six series motors never used them
I had a 6x5.5 on my funjet the day you saw me flying it with a 400watt 3w typhoon motor 3000kv
Grumner makes a nice 6x5.5 prop my favorite Kenny down at UFO hobby's can get them

We'll be back at the school some time this weekend
how about you?

RE: FUNJET

ya i will pry be there on sunday...i made a new 5.5x6 master air screw but it has no flex so it was pulling 64...oops haha and 650 watts but i think its to much for it so i will run that prop when i get my arc back but it had allot more thrust then the apc 6x4 made haha.. but ya i am going to fly the f-16 if i grow a pair this weekend haha...but i am going to mess with the castle link with the 6x4 and get it to about 45 amps and then try to fly it

bigdog5332 01-15-2010 07:57 PM

RE: FUNJET

i figured out i was loosing allot of power...all because of one thing. i accidentally has it set to out-runner mode on the castle link and i changed it to 16khz and that makes me pull about 9 amps more then i did last sunday when i flew it with the 6x4. now i am at 49 with the timing at normal. and 16khz and then 42amps with the 5x5 so i am going to try to use both

Hi Geeter,

I saw your add #592505. Did you mount the prop on your funjet the same way as that picture?

RE: FUNJET

thanks everybody on the site for helping me with my funjet which i couldn't get to take off at all. i checked everything and it was good so went ahead a ran about five steps before i tossed it a 30 dedree angle...............it took off straight and was nose up with some trim i put in it. a fight on the trans sticks for fifteen seconds and it was flying good and fast around 100 mph. scream'in low passes are great but she needed alittle more elevon to turn tighter. five minutes was good. landed her pretty smooth.battery charge then up again for some more fun a sucussful launch again and flew her around some more. i like it now and plan to make it faster in the future. a buddy had a parkzone habu df jet on a 4-s 3500 mah li-po. they fly very nice and get off a grass field with no probelm very impressed with the habu jet i must say. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE HELP...............KEEP HAUL'IN ASS..............................GEETER

bigdog5332 01-17-2010 01:26 PM

RE: FUNJET

hey greeter...i am running the linkage on the 3rd hole down on the elevon and i have the linkage running leval to the servo horn and i seem to have a lot of movement with the hs82mg servos and the only time i have to go full on the stick is up and that is on a low fly by before i wrap my fj around a basketball pole haha...but the trurns are very tight...and what prop are you running i am running i have the 6x4 and the timing at normal on the castle link but to keep it round 40 amps i had to put it to outrunner mode instead of the 16khz.

geeter 01-17-2010 02:34 PM

RE: FUNJET

i can jet dial some more throw into it from the radio. i'm running a 6x4 on a e-flight 2700 kv motor. i think something a bit smaller would go faster, but i don't know what. maybe a 5x 4.5 or something like that. don't know much about smaller props. only the standred ones like 10x 7 or 12x8 that go on nitro engines. anyway if anybody has this motor and could suggest a better prop fine. i think funjets are cool once you get them flying. there faster than a ducted fan jets i have seen lately. for the money you can't beat them, if you like to fly fast............GEETER

bigdog5332 01-17-2010 06:50 PM

RE: FUNJET

ok i am running the 6x4 on 3s with the castle link at normal timing and outrunner mode...i had a 5x5 on it with it at 16khz instead of the outrunner mode and it was actually slower even though it was pulling more amps and more watts...i really like how mine flies for now until i get my arc back and then the six series will be going into a stryker in early srping after i finish my 3dhs edge and the spot on 50 which i got both for x-mass

geeter 01-18-2010 05:45 PM

RE: FUNJET

has anyone ever run this motor in there funjet? it's a kms quamtum 380-10 i/r brushless 4000 kv. ..........thanks...............RON

bigdog5332 01-21-2010 09:09 AM

RE: FUNJET

4000kv might be a little high on a fj...unless you can get allot better coolig to it to make it fast...my friend has a himax 3700kv i think on his stryker..it is the longer can motor from them and he has to run a 4.1x4.1 prop on it so it doest get to hot...but it is probaly about 10mph slower then my fj with the 6series 2700 and a 6x4 on 3s hyperion 2600 g3

geeter 01-21-2010 06:56 PM

RE: FUNJET

i'm running the same prop battery and motor combo you are. it's an e- flight 2700 kv motor and 6x4 speed prop. and a 3-s 2200 mah 11.1 volt. ever clocked it. ?..............RON

geeter 01-21-2010 07:34 PM

RE: FUNJET

i cant quite figure out what watts means to speed. the more watts the more speed i guess. i see some motots draw less watts than others yet the kv rating is higher, making you think you don't need as big an esc to run it. then again esc's are based on amps, but volts x amps = watts i thought. it gets confusing sometimes............RON

bigdog5332 01-21-2010 09:42 PM

RE: FUNJET

hey usually watts is like the hp of a combustion motor....and yes more watts is usually more speed unless it is providing less thrust...and no i have not clocked it yet i am on a stock airframe but with a sold carbon square tube running through the wing instead of the original fiberglass one

Can anyone help me out here. Im new to electrics. Due to the military, im stationed in Italy and I want a Funjet. Can any tell me a good (fast) low cost motor and ESC to buy? Ive been seraching all over and i just get more confused. I wanna go fast, but i know you gotta pay big $'s for that, but I wanna keep the whole build around $250 including the jet its self and servos. Please help me out, im going crazy over here!!!!!

RE: FUNJET

If you want fun, zippy but not awfully fast ... get the following from Hobby City:

Motor - inrunner of 28mm x 40mm with 2,300KV-2,800KV
ESC - Turnigy Plush 25A or 40A
Prop - APC 4.75x4.75 or 5x5
Batt - Turnigy 30C 3S 2,200

RE: FUNJET

How about 100+ mph set up? Do you think anything from hobby city can make this happen cheap?

It does not take much to get a FJ in the 100 plus range
Plane $70
servos hitec 82's mg you can use 65 BUT they now run $35-37 each 82's little bigger but only $22 each=$45
ESC 60 to 90 amp size must be able to run 4 cells $70 -90
motor tough one here $40-90 the main thing is quaility you can spend less an not get a good motor

Hobby city does have Ok ESC'S...servos not so much...motors not so good

Batteries from hobby city........ you bet I buy from them all the time... turnigy 2650ma.. 30-40 c rated....4 cells :D

Price
$70 plane
$45 servos
$85 ESC avg price
$70 motor ..a good one..cheaper ones run hot and will not last
$upgraded hardware..better control horns and servo arms $10
$280.00

You can do cheaper ...but you get what you pay for.

I have had a ESC quite at over 120 mph not pretty
I have had a servo stop centering at over 120 mph and hardware fail ( stuff that comes with the plane)

Just saying and trying to keep you a happy flyer

All ESC are based on amps

Watts means the amount of power the motor will produce ( keeping this REAL simple here people)
most motors will give you a watt number BUT it's usually does not include a prop..... (load) ...usually and est. based on how the motor is made...some mfg's will give you real data based on props used.
If you have a watt meter.. you can see the diff. wattages as you change the props on the motor (load)

On the FJ ( based on my exp.) a motor in the 2700 to 2900 kv range on 4 cells with a 4.75 x 4.75 prop will give you about 700 watts
A 28 mm x 46 mm longer will make more watts and use more amps. Remember motors are designed to use power.
I have one motor that I use on a Stryker that will make 1500 watts and use 74 amps. ....it's an outrunner..I'm hoping to figure out how to get into my FJ

There is a math. formula with I can never remember, but basically watts to mph must almost double to increase speed (it does not figure drag of the airframe)

You will reach a place in the formula where you can't haul the weight of the battery to go X speed.

So a other way is to go with a lower kv motor 1800- 2100 range and up the volts ( number of cells) say like a 7inch prop on 5 to 6 cells. Now you have tons of thrust and speed...but you're hauling a REAL big battery and space in the FJ is tiny.
Over all you are correct as you must have more watts to make more speed.....watts are the electrical name for horsepower in elec. motors

More watts=more money=more speed=more fun
