Default What brand of saw engines are best to convert??

Hi
I`ve been searching around through saw engines but all the engines i found had similar problems: breaking up the engine sides, there is no "complite engine" inside. I mean the crank is fitted into the engine sides. Which companies have different engines?

As english is not my mother language my explaining could be poor.

thanks

I have 6 Sachs gasers and one is more than 9 years old and they all run like a top. The oldest one is a 4.2 which uses a set of points and that one is really the best of them all.

Default Chain saws....

I agree; the Poulans are great for converting.

I also have an Echo 30cc that looks like it will be a neat conversion.

The McCulloch's and Sears saws are not so good for conversions generally.

Good luck,

Try Partner saws. Engines same as Poulan. Partner 460 - 46cc, Partner 420 - 42cc.

Probably can find some Partners here. We mostly have stihl, husqvarna. Husqvarna is the most common.
Got some tips from a guy who repirs these engines. He said that "complite engines" that might fit are only up to 35 cc?!?

Husqvarna - this is Electrolux Group like a Poulan, Partner & many more, The prices on Husqvarna are higher than on Poulan or Partner.

Huskies aren't bad from what I understand......
If that's most common and easy to get parts for, go with it..
Their is a lot of kits avalable for that size motor...

I`m already scratch building an Toni Clarks 1/3 Pitts special, so 35 will be way too small. Need atleast 50.

I`m not sure you understood what i ment with "complite engine".
Lets say, if i take off two nice oringe engine sides of an husqvarna there will fall out lot of small pieces, as the cranksaft etc. As the bearings and cranksaft are fitted into these sides. Only thing could be done is to cut excessive material around the bearings, is that what you do?

This is a motor that a gentleman has worked on in another thread..take a look at it and see if you can get a idea of what people are doing with saw motors, the shiney areas are where metal has been removed from the case that was not needed..

Hi
Go to chainsaw engine repair shop , find a Stihl 025, 43 or 44 cc engine, engine is atached with only four bolts to the plastic case, but you need to make a carbureter adapter, smaller Stihl are same system I dont know if bigger Stihl are same system. I have one 025 and it is very easy to put on a engine motor mount .I have not converted it yet , need machining of the rear part of crankshaft because I will put it to move the prop.It have more diameter. And after it I put a CDI ignition .
To make the things like it is a bit expensive and not simple I dont know how many time and money like you spend.
Go to the site
www.rcfaq.com
Go to the engine conversion see the photos, good explanation
Have nice time

Hi
I don't know other sites bigger than this. Have good knowledge and convert chainsaw engines .
I know other sites but they are for weedies and you need more power .
Go to chainsaw repair shops and talk with mechanics, after this if mechanics have good feeling with me I make a small gift usually a piece of cake help ,too much.
Any ideas of other site for conversion like www.rcfaq.com for you RCU members ?.
Also help me , I went to chainsaw sellers and see the new machines and talk with sellers, and see if they have an oficial mechanic service and go to see the future candidate without cover and talk with mechanic.
If you go to buy a used machine take your screwdriver, keys , etc
and take out the muffler of machine and see thru the exhaust port , the things must look very good inside, dont rely on compression only thru the feeling of rope starter. To make this you must have a little of practice or like me , buy a bad machine and adquire practice very quickly , hehehe, I am spend 15 U$S in a Echo 510 but I saved a carb and high voltage coil.
Other thing you can make is go to Search option in Engine conversion forum here and type your brand of engine and see what happen.
I have a converted Homelite 38 cc single ring , converted from near new chainsaw with CDI, nice engine.
A friend of mine make the lathe work, this Homelite ( and the 33 and 45 cc) is easy to convert, good front crankshaft side.
Have perseverance .
Have a nice day.
Jose

HI
I remembered a site
www.rsengines.net/brute45/brute45.html
they have pieces to convert but if you see you can get better ideas about pieces to make.
I belive they based the conversion on a Homelite engine, I dont remember but see 90% like Homelite engine.
They have nice pieces to convert.
Good luck
Jose

Hi again
yes I see better the site and the 33 and 45 engines are Homelite, I belive this conversion explained is the best I have seen in the internet.
Many engines from chainsaw see like it, but the stihl are diferent
Good luck
Jose
