My block is 3/4 thick, bolted to a 1" thick x 5 inches wide with 1/2" allen bolts..It's a T, with holes in one side for G38 size cranks and the other side for G62 size cranks..it fits in my Kurt vise on the mill table...Most lathe chucks are not good enough to check alignment within .001, so the block was the answer...It's about 12 years old.....

RCIGN1: Got a question. What is the best way to make this. Drill close... then finish bore with??? Also would high grade aluminum work ok in place of steel?? Thanks Capt,n

Steel is best...The holes gradually get elongated with use...This thing is so old now that the holes are getting oval...Still works, but not as well as it did..pictures tomorrow, it looks pretty bad...

It will be interesting when you get the engine together enough to use a dial indicator to see if both pistons come up to Top Dead Center at same time!! I hope she does. Capt,n

Don't need a dial indicator. Just shine a light in the spark plug hole and look in the exhaust port. If both cylinders go dark at the same time you got it. If not a feeler gauge will tell you how far off you are.

That assuming ports are identical height in both cylinders and base gaskets are exact ect...ect are exact. I like a dial indicator. Capt,n

Its the port timing that counts. The gasket and deck heigth will both effect the dial indicator.

I believe it will be the same exact port timing that counts.
Unless the port timing is matched the engine will not be optimized.
Deck height needs to be maintained so the compression raitos will be he same.

It should not be hard to do, it's just another small detail that needs to be taken care of.

I was thinking of making the interface between the crankshafts a shrink fit on mine, so that indexing could be checked and set before welding...

It seems like the base gasket and the deck heigth will also affect port timing and dial indicator. Most likely if ports are in time with each other....the top dead center will be very close too. Well if she runs good...thats all that counts. Well except for if its kinda heavy...thats not good!!! Capt,n[:-]

Well, a twin will never weigh less than a similar size single cylinder engine at least in theory, but it sure is cool!!

airbornrc Thanks!!

I almost went out to the workshop to work on my twin last evening, but I was just too tired and lazy. I've been making myself leave it alone until I finish up a few other projects already in the works. One of these days soon...

I had to get some customer fiberglass work out and have not gotten the crank pinned. I also need to get an ignition.

Just drop an email to Keith or give him a call. This thread has been idle for a while so he may still have some. By the way I wonder if Mark has gotten his running yet.

Huey-pilot glad to see you are back on. How did you do in the tornado? Many of us down here in Mobile chipped in with supplies and clothes for you up there.

Read back in this thread. Airbornrc has his finished but don't know if it is running. When I get moved and settled I will be working on mine. Trying to move and reset 3 tons worth of machinery may take me a bit.

I will sell two of my cases for the same price that I paid, $40 each plus shipping charges. Thanks for your interest Tim, the tornado missed my place and I only lost some shingles. We appreciate the supplies and other items.
