Below is a photo of a DLE30 ring sfter several tanks of running. Get a Bowman ring if you want to save a lot of time on hours of break-in. Save you some fuel too! Capt,n
I bought a new DLE30 in early July then a DLE55 in early Aug. Both ran well from day one with excellent compression. The rings are wearing in very nicely with a good uniform appearance as viewed through the exhaust port. With all the talk about DLE rings, I expected to have to install the Bowman rings but such was not the case for these (2) engines. It appears that DLE must have improved their rings somewhat over the last year ...... they certainly improved the rest of the engines with new castings, etc.

That is what I really like about the DLE company. They listen to the customers input and they keep improving their engines. I have read several postings customers say the rings are better now. Keep up the good work, DLE & thanks for the improvements. Best Regards Capt,n

Hi John and all,
Taking .015 off the bottom of DL cyl was not one of my better ideas.Do not do it.With no cyl gasket piston hit the top.Put on two cyl gaskets and a bowman ring.
After a short run in about five mins. Engine turned a 20x6 MAS 7800 and idle at 1200.It turned better then this with original cyl and ring. I will put the org cyl back on before week end. Got in several flights Sun. Again with the help of friends. Other DL 30 with bowman ring is doing great turns better and much better comp. I do think the new DL parts are better. The ring in this one looked good maybe two gallon of fuel through it.Will have to order mopre rings from Frank/
Used to do a lot of Trout fishing in Wind River Mts. I knew many places where you could fish all day and not see another person. Used to run to these places on a dirt bike.Them days are over(darn it).

Bill, I did not know you did Trout fishing too! Yesterday (Oct 18) was my Birthday. After a eye appointment I tried to catch a fresh run Steelhead. I di not get one hit just like the other fishermen! The water is super clear & low. The barometer was high...nothing doing. I have my best luck on a falling barometer.

Well I should be able to finish my airplane & maybe get in some flying before snow sets in. Take care & keep healing. Capt,n PS I may have fished the lake where the Wind River starts...... Brooks Lake.....Loved it!

Hello All, I compensated for the DL 50 ring purchased from me by sending another ring for one of the customers other engine. I feel that with too much difference between worn piston & new cylinder my flat face rings will never seal as I tried to explain to customer. With tighter tolerances my ring will work but loose tolerances a ring with rounded edges and larger pre load gap to apply more tension on cylinder would be better. But there will be more heat involved with higher tension rings and round edges on rings will allow more blowby. Take Care & good flying, fishing too.

I guess he has a new cyl for the DLE 50cc engine. The price of a new piston is not that much....and if he had done that with a new ring, he would have had a new top end.

Did a little bit of fishing on my Birthday....not a hit! I could never catch a steelhead on my Birthday. Maybe next year!

Yes it is....gotta do more of that neat thing callled Fishing! The river dose not look wide.....but it is impossible to throw a lure to the ouer side! I have hooked big Steelies that will soon as you hook then, run clear over to the oppisite shore looking to get in a snag along the shore. If they find a branch...snap goes the line! Some will "tail-walk" trying to get loose. Like my dad used to say....SOME FUN! We fished right there together for over 40 years! Capt,n PS When I had a RC float plane....I flew it off the river just up strean a little.

I did not have much time to get all ny fishing gear. When the water is clear like gin...you can scare the fish wading out in the river right there. I have used hip boots....just to land a fish....step out just enough to pick em up by the gills. Capt,n

w8Ye, I sure hope you get enough time to fly. Being a Moderator must keep you busy. I guess you could use a lap top & do the job by remote control!!! Anyway, make sure you have fun too. You are a great Guy...its easy to see that. Best Regards Capt,n

Flying is almost over for me this year as it getting too cold. Going out all day tomorrow.

I usually go out flying and stay all day until dark.

There are other moderators besides me and also it'll usually keep until I get back.

I've become co dependent on moderating ??? as I have done it for seven years now.

You are close but no Cigar.
The wind river starts at Wind River lake,a few miles past Brooks lake turn off.Brooks lake creek comes out of Brooks lake and into Wind river.
There is a airplane lost now in the Wind River Mts.Going to fly from Jackson to Riverton in a snow storm. Was a Mooney with four people.A man from Minn with his three sons. Terrible terrible. They said he went off Radar close to Gannet peak, highest point in Wy.They did have contact with him and last call was he had lost control of the airplane. The wind could easily have been over 100 MPH up there. They may not find until spring.
They found a airplane in Wy a few years ago, that had been lost for twenty years.

Bill, I do not know it is right now, but I got a very neat photo I took at Brooks lake. Seems like in my mind I see a big wooden structure marking a gate with some real nice looking Horses near by. In the back ground was a grassy pasture that had several little streams flowing across it & into Brooks Lake. I think maybe that is how it got that name! Man...that is Gods Country for sure!!! Take Care Capt,n

Frank Bowman,
I sure hope you are catching some Trout in-between working making piston rings for lots of us RC nuts! I went fishing on my birthday (oct 18) and never got a bite. In a couple of photos you can see where I &amp; my dad fished for 30-40 years. We landed a lot of big Trout right there. Post or PM me back....I will call, just give me a good time to call. Capt,n PS That Steelhead trout was near 20# in the photo of my Dad.</p>
