I tried blocking the side ports and the rubber tubing going to them. Now it will only spit and spudder but won't continue to run. I have not put the stock muffler back on because I would have to cut out the side of my telemaster. Now we are converting another 25cc toro engine with a walbro carb and also blocking off the side ports. I will let you know how it turns out once we get it finished.

I find that strange. It must need another carb. too.
Mufflers off a G-26 will fit. That should make finding one easier.
You should recheck the muffler thing, I'm having 2nd thoughts.

went for broke on the 8 footer. Planning on building the 12 footer here real soon. probably put a 30cc on it. I really want to put a 4 stroke gasser on it. Been wanting to convert one of those real bad, We'll see.
Like I was saying above it's way, way over powered but The guys I fly with wants me to pull their gliders up. So I suppose the extra power will help with that. I bet I could darn near hover right now. It will climb almost verticle I am sure it would with a different wing.
I bought the ARF from hobby-lobby. If I was gonna do the 8ft again I would do the kit. I am not impressed at all with the quality of the arf. It seems to be hot glued together, crappy hindges and real junk covering. But I guess for 210.00 you can't expect much. I went through and reglued as much as I could using epoxy and wood glue did alot of reinforcing to handle the gas engine. Over all it turned out well I am very impressed with the way the telemaster handles the weight of the gas engine.

Sounds good, keep us informed I have a four stroke in a telemaster project going too.

Well, back after a month long trip which involved a lot of rain and a lot of golden leaves. Started the conversion of the John Deere into the Tele, appears that very little weight will need to be added to the tail. Maybe I should make it a two cylinder since it is going to be John Deere powered (just joking). Will keep you informed as progress continues. Flathead

Ok guys, I have gotten quite tired of this engine so I put it aside for awhile. Last week I broke it out again and put a walbro 624 carb on it. I had to make a new isolater. Now the darn thing idles like a dream but at about 3/4 throddle it cuts out and tries to die. I have tried another carb and same issue. I have decided that I have had enough of this engine and day before yesterday I ordered a homelite from Gary Troutman out of Kemp TX. I don't think you can beat his prices, flywheel trimmed, prop hub made, exhaust done, and a velosity stack all for 135.00 shipped. I have finally finished the skis for this plane. I'll try to get some pics up soon.

Nosedragger,
What size tele are you putting the four stroke in?. What 4 stroke are you using? I am very interested. I almost tore my new 4 stroke weedeater apart and converted it. Still may we'll see.

Well, things happen as you all know, got back from a month on the road just in time to make a visit to the hospital, and while I was there they repaired a Hernia. 30 years ago when I had the first one, I was in for a week, then light to nothing lifting for 6 weeks. This time, went in at 8:00 AM, home by noon. Still on the no lift list unitil middle of January. I have the engine running, made up a hub and Prop mount, and it starts easy by hand. Guess I will trim down the flywheel and forgo the electronic ig. Haven't had time or energy to tach the engine, yet, am running a 14X6 prop and it seens to run very strong. Will try and get the engine mounted this week. Temps here have been cold, finally got above freezing for about an hour today. Flathead

Well, got the 19cc John Deere running. I made a prop hub for it, and got it to the test bench last week before the wind and snow hit. It is to misserable to even go outside, but did a little work in the back shop. I am not sure if my tach is right or not, but was around 9000 with an idle of 1900. I have fabricated a lighter muffler and set up the throtle lever. I have a 14 X 8 Master Air Screw prop right now. It appears to start by hand with the mag, so will probably stay with the stock Ignition. As with the other TELE's I have flown, The body appears to be a little flimsy, so I loaded it with some foam in a can. I have a Ryobi powered Ultra Stick that I did the same thing with and it really makes the fuselage stiffer. I can now offer good advice as to doiong this mod if anyone is interested. Will keep you informed as soon as the weather allows..... Flathead

here is a short video I took the other day. I have that new 25cc homelite installed. It is quite a bit heavier the the toro but really doesn't make a difference on the telemaster. Just had to add a few ounces to the tail. The skis work OK. I think they are a bit small for this plane. I flew again yesterday in 6 inches of powder snow and just sank. I packed the runway down with my snowmobile and then it worked great. but shoot I could have used tires then. So back to the drawing board, gonna make some bigger skis.

OK, here is how I "FOAMED" the TELE. with covering already in place. I cut heavy cardboard on a table saw to the exact dimensions and cut stiff composite flooring that I had left over (mostly cut-off's from one of my projects). After locating the cardboard I temporarily held things in place with rubber straps which allowed me to move the floring strips to cover where I thought they might be needed, and then used masking tape to make it strong. On the TELE, I injected foam in three locations, about six inches from front and back and in the middle. I left the holes open in case I got to much in. If you are planning on installing servo's in the back as was my case, I used a tube from a roll of covering which I installed prior to foaming down the approximate center of the fuselage which extends through the back bulkhead and left it about two inches into the open area. My first experience was with a ULTRA STICK 120 with a "RYOBI" and I had to remove some covering and trim off the excess foam. If you want to foam before covering, use the same set-up, but cover the cardboard with wax paper prior to installationt. It is my experience that one can of foam would fill at least 5 airplanes. So, if you clean out the tube after usage, you can reuse for the next plane, or fill cracks around the house or shop. Good Luck Flathead

The John Deere TELE is ready to fly. Engine runs good, managed to get the engine back far enough into the fuselage so I didn't need to add any weight. Haven't weighed the thing yet. The front of the flywheel is just flush with original front of the plane. Struts are installed, and the wife says the first decent day it is going to the back shop instead of the game room. Will keep you posted. "Flathead"

Success-FLew the TELE with the John Deere ( I suspect it is really an "ECHO"). Need to dial it in a little more, and make some final adjustmenmts. Grandson was happy and got him back on track. Everytime it appears to be good for flying, by the time I get loaded up, the wind gets loaded up to. 20 plus is not my kind of flying weather, and more snow is expected. More later.

Been out flying the Telemaster, and guess the next step is to put EI on. Forth flight and thing started runing rough, so I landed. Further inspection revealed a crack on one leg of the Mag attachment. Well keep you informed as to how the EI works out. Guess my earlier thoughts when the trimmer was given to me that looked it had been dropped out of a PU or backed over by one. Flathead 4.
