Hi Rob.
Some questions about output:
RB0: is 82.5us is a standard timing of a hall sens or it depends on a time that magnet going thru the hall?
It's a time, depend of size magnet and speed.

RA3: don’t understand that is it end when it goes from low to high?
<>
This is also reflected in the row one up from the bottom (RA3/orange).
For testing purposes I used this port to toggle whenever a pulse comes in and it is
</>

RB3: we need to stop the PWM during the SCR is high to prevent the SCR damage.
It's not possible within this version and I don't use the PWM to create HV.

My be better to see the output between 2 pulses of a hall?
The pic is showing the theoretic pulstrain, it's not realistic.

Hello!

Will it be a version of hex with internal oscillator enabled?

Cheers

No, you have to use a cristal or resonator.

Rob.. I think I may have the diodes soldered in wrong. Which bands are up and which are down? Other than that part, I am almost ready to test the combo board. Just have to solder in the toroid transformer.

Charlie, how's it going on the assembly of your boards?
Soon ready to test the combo board...when I can figure out the diode bands.. Winding the toroid transformer at the moment. I found some new cores that are really a nice size for the project from All Electronics so I bought 20 of them just in case they are in short supply later. My stand alone timer boards both work well running the test engine, so I expect the combo boards to really be nice to work with..no extra interconnect wires.
Having a little trouble locating the hall H501 chips. Maybe I'll use what I have here..either the Panasonic 6852 or the Allegro A1104LUA-T sensors.
I replaced the pic with a 16f628 and it also works in the timer. Software works great for monitoring and uploading the edited tables I made, only requiring movement of my sensor mount about 10 degrees to get things right. I think I have about 4 hours time running the engine with the new timers..
I'm compiling my settings and adjustments to make a list of setups for it, so it's repeatable for anyone interested in using it.
Let me know what's up..been awhile since I posted..had computer hardware conflicts once again..time for a new one I think.

GR8 ...if you are referring to which end is which on the diode, the band end is the cathode.
Also, I always use the Allegro 3240 hall.

Hi John,

Its going slow. We just bought this house we are in and so now the wife has me doing a lot of honey do's. First project is putting up a fence. I will let you know when I get going on it.

Ok Charlie.. Was just wondering since you said you were ready to start assembly. Thanks Rob for the diode direction symbols! I did have them all wrong, not just two..Oh well..unsolder and resolder I guess..winding the rest of the toroid today sometime and then time to program the pic.
I just got a bunch of Mac 21cc engines to convert..4 of them, and a homelite 25cc.. should be fun! Now I'll have a total of 14 ignitions on hand to work with. Finding the time as work around the house takes first place time-wise is always tough unless I stay up till 3 or 4 am. So much graphic work to be done also, don't know where it all came from since the economy is so slow?? It pays for my hobbies..

GR8,
Can you write in "all electronics" part No. and details for the ferrite core. Had a look there but could not find them.

No HV on the combo board yet Rob. Wired in the toroid and all I am getting is a hot MJE3055t. No oscillations for some reason.. Tried switching the primary leads and feedback windings. Raised the resistor value and lowered it. Still no oscillations. Not sure why yet.. I'll try another transistor next.

Is there anyone building the new combo board? Mine is now working..had a nonresponsive transistor..go figure. It now runs my test engine equally well, like the stand alone timer boards and ignitions..
Thanks Rob for the great combo board!

Hi.Good job. Can you tell me,
what is a full power consumption of a board?

There are a 10 or 20 people who building this board and all like it.
They are not members of this forum.
Some only read this forum, they don't speak English and use a translate program.

@John, can you draw or can you make some pictures how you have make the transformer ?
This is the biggest problem from all builders, they don't know how to start wind the coil.

Hi Rob..
I will start winding a new transformer and take some pictures of it as I wind it including how I measure the wire length and the shuttle I use to wind the secondary windings. The process works well for me and produces a neatly wound toroid.
The wire size as well as the core size, will determine the end result of the toroid transformer.

Iura, The timer board only draws around 60 mah from the battery. The CDI HV board however can draw from 200 to 250 mah from the battery. I normally use a 700mah to 900mah pack to power my engine test stand. I was getting about a 2 hour run from it before it's voltage drops below what is required to run the system.
Since I use only a 4.8 volt pack, I omitted the regulator chip and jumpered the board to take it's place.. and that is why the current draw is lower than most commercial systems. This depends on engine rpm and condition of the battery. The CDI will draw more current at higher rpms. Typically, 175 to 200mah at idle speeds, and up to 250 to 300 @ 7000 rpm. I feel that these readings are very good for the boards in combination. The harder you make the CDI work to produce voltage, the higher the current draw. This is typical of all CDI units. I feel that the toroid transformer is the most efficent for our purposes, although you can use what you like.... I prefer the toroids.

Just received the usb/ttl unit. Am I correct in assuming the only 3 connections from it to the timer board will be tx, rx and ground?
Thanks...Jeff

If you want to program/monitor without conneted a batterie to the CDI, you have also connect the +5V to the CDI.
Don't connect a batterie AND the +5V to the CDI, this can be dammage your USB2TTL-modul or CDI.

Hi Rob..
I found a potential problem for those who are building the combo board. the schematic is correct..but the parts overlay has one error. The one end of resistor R-8 is showing that it goes to a positive connection, where it should go to a negative connection. I switched that one connection to get the board to function..now it works perfectly. I just thought it might be helpful to those who might have overlooked the schematic and built the board from the component overlay.
I ran the test engine with it and it works great! I'll get back to the instructions with pictures on winding the toroid transformer now and should have it posted in a day or two. Thanks again for a great addition to this project.
