When (or if) a Davis conversion becomes available for the GP07 I'd be very interested. The CS .061D had my attention for a time but reports were discouraging and made me put off the purchase. This sounds a lot more like what I need.

It came today the GP07 . It will get a couple of tanks on glow then off to the " Davis factory" for a head. An GP18 and GP28 conversion insert might be a possibilty too. martin

I couldn't resist it anymore and got one of the newer ones as well.
There is very little difference compared to the older one from what I can see. Most obvious (for identification) are two larger diameter fins in the case and a different logo on the side. Head and spinner are still anodized so the ACE webpage simply shows a black and white image.

Compared to the earlier version:

+ the pin that aligns the liner in the case is now a solid pin rather than the hollow one that would leak (!)
- crank is still very sloppy straight out of the box (so they seem to work but it just feels worn out to me.

I'm hoping that the liner and case ports are better matched on this one and I will try to check that too....

My TT18 turns an APC 9.5 X 4.5 at 12.6K and idles to 2.8K. These are better #'s than a friend's PAW 19. Seems to be a touquieee motor so may well work as a Diesel.
Doesn't have punch pinch though.

The engine is going into the goldberg lightnin bug, just did a mockup . with the radial mounting a slam dunk just the right length to just clear the front of the Fus. with no hacking to mess up that nice sweep at the front, also weighed the engine with muffler 105Gm the stock enclosed 400 brushed motor and gear box that came with it 104Gm. the little berg 4 CH
receiver 3 submicro servos one oz tank or 2 oz tank??? martin

You may have a winner with the .18. My MVVS s
show almost the same numbers on 8 X 5. It is
sure to be a lighter engine than MVVS .15.

The weight figures on the website for TT18 are without the muffler though, so don't get too excited...

Now that we dodged "Ike" here in Florida ( I hope) and making preps getting plywood, checking my generator, and the rest of the hurricane prep thing, ran the GP 07 today. used 15% nitro wildcat with extra castor, its also about 4 years old, apc gray plastic prop about 16000, not sensational but not bad about 15 minutes run time
Good news the very tight pinch at top is gone, now just the normal slight one, compression has come up with that nice bounce when flipped

It got its last run on Davis 1/2 A which lit off with glow power, it kept running after dis-connect but could not get a good needle adjustment (remember this is on the glow head) running out of time was going to try 7x4 APC it also heavier may have had some flywheel effect and a better load.
Think it will make a good conversion now its off to Davis with it martin

There is no slop in the crank very nice fit

Was that with a 6x3 apc?

I've check the transferports of the newer version and the ports in the case are now matching the ones in the liner.
Mine has a clear sideways slop in the bearings and not much of a pinch at TDC for brand new ABC engine, I've had tighter iron/steel ones...

Mr cox that was an APC 6x3 very light prop (weight) . I have not been able to unscrew the backplate so have not seen the ports the engines are now ABN not ABC so it breaks in quick
20% oil so no issues with the liner the rapid compression increase was a pleasant surprise It should do very well as a diesel if it does 10000 with an 8x4 ?? should do it anyhow with a 7x4 or 8x3 martin

Ok, then the numbers are very similar (identical) to the older version. You don't have to open the engine and look at the transfer ports, if you have the version with different diameter cooling fins it should be the later version with proper aligned ports. Yes, it would be ABN rather then ABC, but I would still have liked to have had a snugger fit at TDC, never had an ABN that improved after running...

The backplate has no seal so I've put teflon tape to seal it (more as a precaution rather than actual problem). The restricted breathing is a problem for high revs in glow but will probably be just fine for the revs used in diesels, might be an advantage even. Looking forward to hearing the progress, I still haven't been able to get any diesel fuel here so I'll have to stick to glow...

Mr cox the compression increase may not be as much as I thought it may have been always good and masked by the tightness before running . If you can get John Deere starter fluid
there from a farm supply source you can make your own diesel mix many posts on this one . I do have a second engine coming the local HS has one ordered for me martin

I've now located a shop that can mix the fuel that I'll need for a plain bearing engine, so I've placed an order and now we'll see what the local post could possibly do to stop this (I keep my fingers crossed).
I will use this in an MVVS 1.5cc RC and possibly the TT 07 then...

If the conversion is succesful will Davis then be able to manufacture a few more do you think?
I could possibly machine a head myself, did that to take the turbo plug, but I haven't done any diesel ones before and these do have a lot more parts in them...

Hmm Mr davis still is not keen on the 07, but seems to have interest in a "maybe" on the 18 and 28 so its wait and see, for a good conversion its has to be 100% right 70,80 or 90%
does not cut it with Bob martin
