I just bought a .18 engine and i installed everything onto my buggy, and the engine won't start. I have primed it until there was gas in the chamber, the glow starter has been fully charged, i played with the tuning needle above the gas input. Nothing seems to affect anything else. Any help would be nice. Thanks.

if your idle is set too low it will not start.
To see if it's your idle, give it some gas(will transmitter) when you start. If it starts turn up your idle.
When I start my .18 (HPI), I turn up the throttle trim tab on my transmitter. After it warms up I turn the tab back to the normal setting

Yeah i've tried many different idle settings to start it, and it doesnt help. Also, for some reason the pull start is incredibly hard to pull, compared to my last engine. I'm assuming it is when the piston is reaching its highest point and there is pressure in the chamber. When trying to start the car, and im pulling the pull start cord all the way out, it doesnt allow me, only when i slowly pull the cord, can i get it all the way out. When trying to start it and im pulling it fast, i can only get it out about 3 or 4 circuits of the piston.

flooded?? Is it a Redcat or Himoto (they're the one's I'm most familiar with the CX engine)...They're prone to coming through with either a broken clutch spring, or a bad glow plug. Both of these will cause a heap of starting issues...You said the ignitor was well charged, did you pull the glow plug to see if it was good???

No its a hobbypro and i pulled the glow plug, the one that came with the engine was bad, so i put the one that came with my old one on and it works, so there is fuel flowing into the engine, and the glow plug does work. The engine is not flooded, i only primed it until i heard fuel enter the engine. The assembly that attatches to the end of the crankshaft, which has the clutch and crank are not on the engine. I could not get them off the old one. So all that is spinning is the end of the crankshaft, which has a threaded end.

so, does it work now??? If not, and don't quote me on it, but if you don't have the clutch and flywheel on it, there might not be enough rotating mass to keep the crank spinning as you turn it...the rotation mass is what helps it turn against the pressure of the engine...

Oh ok that makes sense.... like you said, i wont quote you, but ill keep that in mind! Thanks. Does anybody else agree with that being the reason why it isnt starting?

yeah without the flywheel there is no stored energy to keep the crank moving. You need the flywheel to keep the stored energy to keep ot running. You will not be able to start it and keep it running without it.
But there's a ton or reason why it may not start. Put them all on and see if it works. We cant tell you why it wont start till you have everything that it need to run. Put them on then see if it runs.

OK, ill put them onto the new engine as soon as i can get them off the old engine. There was a screw on the tip, that broke off so i couldnt unscrew that. I got the crank off the crankshaft, but the flywheel and clutch are still on the crankshaft. There is a nut on the end of the shaft that i cant loosen by turning it either way. How do i get the clutch and flywheel off of the crankshaft? I can supply pictures if that will help understand what I'm dealing with.

2 & 1/2 turns on the HSN, 1 & 3/4 on the LSN is what I would say factory settings are, or close to. It will idle rough, but it will idle, you will have to turn the idle set screw in 1/4 turn at a time untill it does idle. I cant find any info on this engine or its label "Hobby Pro .18CX" and I diddnt get any guide with mine... But I diddnt have any troubles getting it to run. I found it munches glow plugs if there not the proper heat range for your nitro... Medum heat plugs should work the best with the 20%Nm I use. It eats high heat plugs like crazy on 20%Nm...
It's a strong engine, I broke it in on a on-road car using the modern method by heating it and cooling and heating it more... Drifted around for 8 tanks during break turning the HSN in 1/16th to 1/8th of a turn (respectivly) after every tank till the smoke backed off but not all together. It still hadda nice trail of smoke when I felt I was just a bit rich from perfect tune. So after the great runs with the car I stuffed it im my Tmaxx and it was doing wheelies like mad. The pinch was excellent, the compression can get nasty if you flood it and will damage the recoil, it will eather pop off the pull cord handle or slip off the spool, but that only happened once each so far for me. The only big thing you hafta keep your eye on the carb seal, the carb loosens off after 1 or 2 tanks and you need to re-seat it and tighten it down. It will run great under throttle, but it will stall on idle, and thats the sign of the carb comming loose. My carb came loose and I diddnt know it cuz it runs great if you dont let it go to idle position, I was no-stop racing back and forth on the lawn and snapped the connecting rod... Now Im ukered cuz I cant find anyone thats even heard of this engine, let alone help me get parts.
Anyone here know of any way to get parts for this enigne?

Oh, crankshaft, you need a pistion-stop tool that threads into the glow plug hole and will lock the crank using the piston without hurting it, and that should let you remove the clutch nut with a socket. (or use pliers or vicegrips if its stripped)
Most any other way will damage the engine is some way as far as I know...
