The pinion moving is a good indication the motor is going to possibly lock up on you. Better not be flying it especially doing stunts in tight areas. Bad time to have a motor lock! I've seen that symtom before on a Walkera #4 with an N-20 motor.
BTW...PLASTI-BLADES...you gotta LOVE 'em. You couldn't give me 10 sets of woodies for my Plasti-Blades. I've actually considered pioruettes in the basement but I JUST DONT HAVE THE GUTS. I did a nice one once when a tail motor died in a 3ft hover though.

So i fiddeled with my tail motor today. If I pull on the pinion, the whole shaft pulls out about an 1/8" and the goes back in, almost like it's spring loaded. Funny thing is my tail is now behaving as it should upon landing. I still plan to pick up a new one tomorrow.
I did my 1st indoor pioruettes today, boy was that scary! I only have 8' left to right to fly in the basement and when doing a colckwise pioruette, the heli also likes to slide to the right. I can just stop and catch it before hitting the cabinets! Ok, so I did hit them once but these plasti blades (thanks crashcrash for turning me on to them!) are like the energiser bunny, they keep on ticking! I really need some outdoor stick time, I am even doing side in hovers in that narrow spot.
Arrow: I plan on following your T-Rex build, just to keep track of how many cases of beer it takes you to complete it!

Mrsamm,
I keep forgetting about helifever, I'll have to get some of the motors at that price... BURN 'EM IN....
Wick246,
When going to the Lipos, ya got's to readjust the proportinal and gyro gain,,,, do it again and take your time. (FINE TUNE IT, makes a difference.)
Rayelljay,
Sorry can't help ya on the ball-ends and drivers. Never been down that street.
ArrowNaughtic,
Yes, crank up the macro, I wanna see them close-ups... Only 1 beer on the build up,, you're a sissy.

Crashcrash,
Yes, the Brushless upgrade with the 90 gyro is expensive. You're on target at 200 bucks.
2 different Y connectors @ 3.99 each.... ESC 41.99.... 370 Brushless Motor 47.99.... Pinion gear 1.99 and gyro 84.99 Grand total... $184.97 not counting shipping charges..
Keep your chin up, you'll be back to work soon... Hope everything goes great at the GYM with the kids, you'll be there Idol(spelling).
Wick246,
Your quote,
"Keep careful track of beers Arrow. If you build most of it on a 3 beer average, then try and fly it sober or on 5 or more beers it just won't make any sense and will be almost impossible to fly."
There are some Professional beer drinkers out there,(I think I'm one of them), the world is full of them.. Absolutely a true story,, I have a very close friend in PA, that is a Master Heli Guru, he's helped me with soo much in the last year it's unbeliveable... He's a very special kinda guy, he even lives on a street named after him....(Wow).. He loves to fly electric and big nitro helis on his farm... tons of area.. Some of his best flying is after 6 or 8 beers...Relaxes ya....

Well I found a nice place at work to practice flying my CP Pro lots of open areas. I was trying to learn to fly in my backyard but the ground is uneven, grass too tall, and to much wind. I got some good training today almost had a stable hover about 1ft off the ground. I have been using my lunch break to tinker with the Heli. Here is a pic I took for you guys

Oracus,
Nice picture,, just take your time to get it right.... Hmmm, a Hummer with a serial number, you must have TOP SECRECT, clearance.
Just take more lunch brakes and you'll be flying in no time.

Be careful Oracus or they'll be sending you over to fly UAV's in the sand. [8D]

"Some of his best flying is after 6 or 8 beers...Relaxes ya.... " I'm with you on this one. Been fooling around with a CX 2 got a CP PRO had a few...... Read as much as I could.... had a few more. Can hover the thing in my kitchen. Maybe a couple more and I'll try it outside. Life is great. Think I need a T Rex.... maybe after a few more........

out in the BREEZES TODAY, the CX-2 is next to Un-FLyable ! WOW surprized me ! but STILL nothing was broken at all.
took the PRO outside, in the breeze, for the very first time. Breezes to 3 or 4mph, on the driveway. Able to sustain a whole battery ( 3S LiPo ) for about 20 minutes of flight. Only mods. on the PRO : SuperSkids + F/G sym. blades...other than those, the Heli is STILL ORIGINAL FROM THE BOX...... super super SMOOOOOOOTH flying, did not quite get around to 90degrees right or left, but getting there. Starboard VIEWING is more difficult for me.... Attempted NOSE IN HOVER but the breeze pushed it IN a couple of times, so gave up on that. as un UPDATE I am not doing much because ALL my electric equipment is still being worked on in FLA, including the new SuperLIPO Charger from TEJERA. preparing for the TEST RUNS on the DX-7 equipment which has yet not been lit up. I wish I had somebody to snap some pics. but, I am alone most of the time. Was very able to CATCH the RISE + DRIFT of the Heli when the wind picks up. I guess I still have good PLANE reflexes..left. HA ! --- still need to get MOTOR/ESC/LIPO/GYRO for the T-REX so I can work parallel with ARROW, but at the rate he is going, he will be finished before I start.
B.O.B's I SALUTE YOU lllllll

Barrick,
The CX-2, as you noticed, dosen't like wind at all, 2 to 3 mph is all she can handle and that would be tuff.. The CX2 is pretty much an indoor heli or a no wind heli... I use to take mine out on non windy/breezey days and had a ball. It's a great little machine and great when the weather is so bad, you can fly in the house.
Sounds like you have your hands full, the DX7, Trex, CP Pro, CX-2 and just loving it... Great job on the 20 minutes of flight.. The 90 degree turn in and nose in will come with time..
Love ya Rick, hope I can do as well as you, at your age, (no offense), just another amazement to me.
You've accomplished so much in a short time and advancing soooo quickly.
Ya old Pharrt,

Figures...the punk kid is doing great. Atta Boy Rick!
Rick...here is my ParkZone J3 as flown yesterday 4 times...what a fun little bird this is. Only a 3 channel, but what the heck. Ailerons would be a nice addition...that might happen. My CP-Pro is down for a main motor (finally got caught without a spare in the parts drawer).

I am going to risk being a bit maudlin, even, but I HAVE to say this :
for an old (well...not THAT OLD !) widowed man who knows nobody, lives alone with a dog and a cat and has [but one] friend 288miles north of here.... the mere fact that there are TWO FRIENDS in cyber-space who read the tripe I write and respond, and encourage and cheer me on....IS VERY GRATIFYING and heart warming. So I want to THANK both of you, as well as the other men in the group, like Wnk Looky ARROW, and all of you.... Can't tell you better, but all your presences fill this house every day. THANK YOU SO MUCH, from the heart .....RICK

Here is a link to a website I use for predicting the wind forecast for a particular time of day. Go to www.weatherunderground.com
Type in your zip code at the top of the page. Once it brings up your local 5 day forecast, click on the "detail" button for a particular day. About half way down that page, you will see wind forecasts for 3 hour intervals. It's pretty accurate and I can "look ahead" to see if there is any window of outdoor flying opportunity!
Rick: Glad to see you are still around!

When you look at a map...check the isobars. The closer together and more numerous...the higher the wind.

took the PRO outside, in the breeze, for the very first time.
B.O.B's I SALUTE YOU lllllll big grin ! NOTHING BROKEN YET !!!!!! nOtHiNg at all YEAH R I CK

Isobars? I always thought they were pitch curves!
I never knew Isobars would indicate wind conditions, I learned something new today. Thanks crash.

Hey buddys!
Hows it going? I see ya guys are looking at going smaller.......... Challange factor up by 500%........lol
Been busy working on the TREX, actually haven't even picked up the blade since last Sunday........... I am gonna work on it this weekend ( no gf's or any other plans) so should be able to dial in both heli's. My cystals for the Futaba should be in friday at the LHS, will pick them up and also look at getting some kind of Park flyer to see if I like planes also.
I might have to dedicate a little time to building a work bench, the sawhorses and old desktop is getting old. I did buy some lumber to build some braces for sheetrocking a ceiling cut to very specific lengths (wink) and will be used to build a permanent stand for the desktop.
Gotta get the Blade up and running, weather is taking a wet turn this weekend and looks like some fairly breezy conditions for awhile. Indoor hovering is in my forecast, as well as alot of sim time in prep for the upcoming season. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee..................... Blade CP!

Been watching your progress Arrow - looks real good. I'm guessing setting up the radio and linkages will take some tenacity but once you've done it once you should be alright for all future rebuilds, mods and adjustments.
That little EP100 is cool! Glad to see there might be another option to the HDX300 for an indoor belt driven tail. Not ready to buy one yet but I will be keeping up on what the people who buy them say.
Got lucky and won some batteries last night for the cp - a little bigger than I would have chosen but couldn't be beat for the money:

I read Barrick's post this AM and I have to express similar sentiments.
I've been widowed for nigh on three years now and lost most of "my" friends 'cos they were hers.....but if Departed Beloved could see me now, I feel she would be happy. Thank heavens I still work...if I was retired I'd go nuts. My living room looks like a workshop.
I'm suffering from dodgy weather too and it doesn't look as if it will calm down much at all this weekend. Good thing is that a musician friend is hosting a bash for the local Gibson owners on Fri and Sat eves. So I guess I'll take my beautiful British Burns guitars to set the cats among the pigeons.
To the gentleman who answered my question about recommendations for upgrades to the Pro with "...no blade grips...", I offered my blades up to the grips which came with my mH CNC head assembly and they fit perfectly....still working on the ball links though....slowly but surely I'll get it there.
Helis are not my only "toys" though....all batteries are charged for me to sail my EC-12 sailboat on our local lake and I have a nice On30 loco to "dress up" too and a refurbished Hammond A105 organ to deliver back to lucky owner.
Hopefully I'll get some rotary wing flying in soon.
Keep the rotors up and the skids down.....

The sail boat sounds really neat Ray, I have liked the thought of doing that but have never even seen an rc one in real life. Are they hard to operate? Though I'm over taxed at work usually, I'll take that over sitting around doing nothing by far. One or two sick days a year to remind me what daytime t.v. is like and I'm ready to go dig ditches if I have to.
My pop has been buying up rc boats off of ebay, most are older kits and some are previously built but abandoned ones needing some work. He has stolen all the electronics off of an RC-10 car I built when I was 15 or 16 for his boats. He told me he already had a nicad and was ready to go, I didn't realize he was talking about my battery from 20 years ago.
I think he has succumed to the idea that he might need a new one. His latest build is a PT 109 from a kit, but from what I have seen he has pretty much built it from scratch. Looks pretty good, not sure if he has painted it yet.

The war rages on. Got the new motor and put it in...same problem, excessive high current draw, battery don't last 5 minutes. I've been messing with it for about 3 hours straight. I found one of the links in the Bell-Hiller pushed in too far so I corrected it and things got better. Well, since you mess with everything trying to find the problem, now I got to go and re-do the setup all over again. Right now, I've got it close to where it was before it went bad. What I found was that one of the blade grips were binding because of the Bell-Hiller not allowing that blade to pitch when collective is applied. Hard to spot...so now I've got a spare main motor now. Whew...what a nightmare these can be.
