I know at 1/2 throttle if you hit the idle-up, it should go to "0" pitch, maybe that's where the get the slight neg pitch at normal idle after you set that up. I'm just guessing...correct me if I'm wrong someone.
ORIGINAL: lear440kts
Does anyone know why it is recommended to have the blade pitch set to a few degrees negative when the throttle stick is at idle in NORMAL mode?

I should have specified in my prior post, that I am using an Optic 6 TX, so it's got the separate pitch curves, but it seems like the neg pitch is contributing to my hard landings (that and my lack of skill
) I haven't had a chance to mess with the pitch curve to try setting it to 0 deg at idle

Lookyj,
Yep a dilemma,, It wasn't me about the S60 Servos.... The S60 servo was designed for the CX2.. Looking at the main frame, there is now way to move the servo back...Hmmmm. THINKING......... A radical thing to do, is with a dremel cut-off wheel.
Cut part of the motor housing off. Or, stick with a S75 in the front, however, I don't like the idea of having two types of servos.
HS-55's, are the way to go on the Blade.. Wiring mod with the stock TX, Servo reversing with the DX6/7 or any programmable TX.
Unknown....

I would suggest since you are a NOOB too...put "0" pitch at normal idle for now till you're actually flying the beast...that's where I'm at. You can always program "idle up"settings later.

Running the S75 in the front is what crossed my mind too. The servo's that go bad are the two rear ones because they are under a lot of stress as little as they are. The front seldom sees the force that the rear ones do. Just thinking out loud...

I replaced the wire rear supports that came with the super skids with some Gold-n-Rod tube. I also ran the antenna wire through it--up one and down the other. I could never get the wires straight and they are a bit weighty. Anyway, I have not had any glitches with the antna being there....yet.

Hey guys!
Been one heck of a long week... had a foot of wet nasty snow fall on Monday... I thought, oh great, here we go again... isn't it supposed to be Spring time?! Well, as the week progressed, the weather started to look better every day... but one heck of a wind.... until today!!! Sunny, very warm, and VERY LITTLE WIND! So, I left work at lunch (no, I couldn't wait until the end of the day).
I managed to get some flying in.... the video isn't the best (see link below), but at least it's against a blue sky for a change. I think I'm flying too high and too far away from my camera lady. Perhaps be able to get some better video this weekend.
I decided to order the Bell Mixer upgrade for this blade. Should arrive sometime next week, as well as a few other spare parts (can never have too many of those).
At any rate, seems that this thread has been pretty busy this week... lots to read, nice to see people are resolving problems and getting some stick time in.

wow... sounds dramatic... make sure that the rear supports that go to the tail boom are not pushing the tail boom up. Actually you can arrange it so that it pulls it down a bit, which would make a boomstrike less liekly. Hopefully that is your problem =)

Oracus,
It sounds like you might have too much negative pitch when you throttle down in Normal flight mode. You said you had +/- 12 ? You should only have -12 in Idle up mode. In normal flight your lowest pitch should be a few degrees below zero.

Sorry about that. Thats what I actually meant.

Oracus,
Two things come to mind, remember the JCS blades are somewhat heavier than the stocks blades, and because of this weight, on a somewhat hard landing they will flex downward in the blade grips a little more than the stock blades..The added shim should help. To many shims, and you will notice that the tail will have the hops, up and down...
When landing, hard or soft, if you land and the tail skid hits the ground first, it will bend the boom up and possibly cause a boom strike.
BLADE TENSION: With the heavier blades, I find that you need to tighten the screw on the blade grips a little more than the stock blades.
If to loose, the blades can fold and hit the boom... Tighten the grips on the blade, then grab the blades at the end and pull hard to make sure they are straight... Top View ------0------
Try it, hope it helps,
Dave / Choppersrule

I have the horizontal stab on my superskids position in such a matter (by accident) that my plasti-blades deflect off the stab with no damage...errrr...let me look at mine again, I had 2 hard landings tonight. Nope...no damage to anything.

I might have to start using the horizontal fin. You got a pic showing where it's placed?

RICK HERE : report # 12 (and final)
I am a HappyCamper. Today was the 5thday of totally CALM wind here in Houston. I am going to risk sounding a bit JUVENILE but still, I share with you guys, don't I ?
At 7 am, with no one around, took all 3 out on the drive, and flew them. I THINK that I have arrived at the end of STAGE I , as far as learning to fly a HELI is concerned.
I can now, without question, Spool up, HOVER, ForwardFlight Fast AND Slow, pivot and return from both directions, NOSE IN and hold for any length of time, and PORT and STARBOARD hover and hold, although the STARBOARD (right view - nose pointing to the right) is still a little weak... I am restricted in space because I fly on a driveway and a street intersection so I don't go too far. Still I go up about 15 ft, out and return.
How I wish I could TAPE THE FLYING, but I have no one to do the camera work. I am out of screen range for the TRIPOD now ... !
I am going to keep the training spreaders on for a while still. I came down on the grass side of the driveway, caught the side and skinned the C/F blade (1) on the PRO. Had an E-Flite set of symmetricals. Weighed them, they are within "" 5 / 100 of a GRAM ** to each other, almost unbelievable. I think the PRO flyes happier with WOODIES, seems like.
Pls XCUSE this ole phartt if I do sound a bit young and stupid, but this is a big EVENT for me.
[sm=red_smile.gif] ....... [sm=wink_smile.gif] ......
I won't report on flying anymore. But I will STILL pester the thread with BUILDING, MECHANICAL and TECHNICAL ADVISE, all of which I am ignorant about.

Nice vid Brian! I totally agree, if it wasn't for the forums and this thread in particular I would have given up this hobby long ago.
Rick, please continue to post your flight progress. I (and I'm sure many others) enjoy reading your updates.

heh!............. Finally got the CNC head and TX dialed in! just spooled it up in the front room and just a lil drift to the left, easily countered by trim in the radio. Finally a bell hiller working head to test outside.............. I might come in smiling, mihgt come in whining......either way It will be an adventure.........wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Blade CP!!!!!!

My heli is in a million peices because there was a few things I needed to upgrade (like a new tail wire and fuse mod, and some new foam tape), and I wanted to get a weight on alot of the parts, so I just decided to take it down a bit further to weigh things. This is what I have so far.... any other things you can think of to measure while I have it all apart? I probably wont be taking apart the head to measure each peice, because an overall weight seems good enough to me, and also I have not measured the stock tail setup because my bro has it on his science fair project =P I will probably get that done this weekend. As soon as I get it all done, I'll have it avaiable for whoever wants to look at it. These weights should be accurate within 1g, and in most cases 0.5g. Let me know if you see any descrepencies

Putting your heli up...
When you go outside in the DEAD CALM and put your heli into a hover (4-5ft)...look at it closely. If something JUST dont look right...it isn't. Lastnights episode was very enlightning for me. As I was hovering at 4-5ft, I noticed a twitchy tail of which I easily compensated for using the sticks. When I really put her up 20-25ft...the problems amplified to nearly uncontrolable. I got lucky. I've been doing test/tune most of the day because around 8:00PM...there will be no wind again tonight. Right now, My CP-Pro hovers like a ROCK at 4-5ft...no twitching. I think I got it dialed out. I had a couple hard landings because I got into trouble last night but I will be more observant/careful tonight.
