CK, thanks for the nice one. I made all of what you see. Printed off the faces and sealed over with clear plastic. The brass rings I turned on a lathe. Will do more pics when I get home back off the road. I also have a console I'm installing in front of the dash. I get just too involved with cockpits anymore!!! Ha.
A few photo up-dates on the Spacewalker. It won't be long before I maiden this plane.

I also went throughthe factory. I saw the laser cut machine, and know wonder Sigs kits are so high quality, because they have people checking and double checking to make sure everything is getting cut right, and all the parts and pieces are included in the kit. Sig is AWSOME!!!

I read on another post that Sig may stop producing and selling kits that will be a sad day for builders and the whole of RC. Seems the ARFs have won the war manufactures can only produce what sells I guess and kit builders are a dying breed. Or perhaps they are yet another victim of our troubled economy and need to trim some fat. If anyone has more information about this please chime in.

Sig is staying in the kit and wood business, we are having some supply problems with some critical parts at the moment. Right now our last shipment of aluminum for landing gear is cracking during the bending operation. Due to quality and pirating issues we are out of ARF models until we can find a more reliable manufacturer.

I feel that sig does not care about their customers at all... i have had a kit on order since before christmas last year and i have not got a call, letter or an email from sig. I have called at least 9 times and finally gave up. i have asked if they can sell me a kit at cost of another model to hold me over till the bipe is available and nothing. This will probably be my last sig kit. I have been a customer of theirs for over 25 years and feel bad about it, because they do produce a good kit and normally do a great job with the products they produce, but the customer service is terrible. This is the first kit i ordered from them that was not on the shelf.

My daughter and I drove up over seven hours total to the Sig fly in so we could get a promised plant tour. Mike Lee had told us that there would be no problem getting a tour. When We got there bob told us that there would be no tour. Even when they took orders and sent someone back to the plant to fill the orders, there still would be no tour. In my opinion the Sig fly in was a public relations nightmare. There was only one person working public relations. Several drove long distances to see the plant and were turned away. I have built seven of the Sig kits and found all very enjoyable and good quality. The fly in left a sour taste.

I realize that this is not life and death... but damn... if i did this to one of my customers they would NEVER come back. and who the hell are you... if you are so great why don't you call em and have em ship the kits that are over 7 months behind for shipping. all i am asking is for a phone call saying that there is a problem with what ever and that we are having problems... what ever, ANY RESPONSE IS A GOOD RESPONSE OVER NOTHING.

for you to come in here talking the shi* you are... you obviously have no concept of customer relations. you need to keep your ass at the house. When is the last time you waited for 8 MONTHS FOR SERVICE with no response... not even a f**k you from the company that you are dealing with?

Hey gary... if you think that is bad, see how you would like it if you ordered your kid a present for christmas and was told that it would be there 2 days before... and here we are 9 months later and still nothing. had to put a receipt under the tree. I wish everyone that i dealt with at work was as understanding as you are, we would never have to give something away due to parts not arriving on time or the manufacturer sending out the engineers to figure out a problem at the dealership.

p.s. thanks for deleting my post dave... it was out of line.

SIG has always been a great company. (My first SIG kit was a CL Super Chipmunk.) Here's hoping they will be around another 50 years or so! RC Flying would not be the same without them!

Mike Lee got called home to Oklahoma for a family emergncy before the fly in has and has not been able to return to Sig. This left us very short handed on during the fly in and we also had some minor flooding in the plant which made it a safety hazard to walk around in there. Sorry you were dissapointed with your trip but some things we don't have much control over.

1986 My family was in Omaha and I was with the Air Force in Indiana. So I had a weekend commute. One trip I decided to stop in Montezuma and visit the Sig factory. I just dropped in and they gave me a tour.

I also got to meet Hazel and she autographed a photo. Then she asked me if I'd like to go to their field with her. We drove to the field in her red Corvette! At the field, Maxey Hester was test flying a prototype Spacewalker. He was having some problems getting the engine to run but then he got it up and it flew great. Hazel then took me to the hangar and showed me her Clipped Wing Cub. I think she would have asked me to stay for supper, but I had to hit the road to Indiana!

What a great experience!

I have greatly enjoyed building and flying Sig designs over the years and am pulling for Sig in 2010 and well beyond. Thanks to Hazel and other staff members and their commitment to the hobby and the company. Garyss

Bob - please convey to Mike that we Sig fans hope all is well and that everything will get back to normal.

I too placed an order for a kit in December, but had to wait several months for some good balsa to arrive. Mike, without fail, always responded to my email inquiries for updates on the kit.

It's bad enough that Sig has to fight through a changing marketplace to provide kits to us, but to have serious raw material & supplier issues layered on top must be disheartening. Please hang in there - the grassroots of this hobby needs Sig more than ever right now.

When I was at the plant, the day before the fly-in, one of the ladies in the office said that "Mike Lee is no longer with the company"?

Sig is the finest. Well worth waiting for as they strive to continue providing dedicated modelers with quality kits and supplies.

Lets get off our duffs and build planes. Defy the foam nuts.

We all need to keep in mind that the hobby has forever changed. From 1982-1989 I worked for and eventually managed the R/C side of a very large hobby shop in the SF Bay Area. I would place a Sig order about every 8 to 10 weeks that would include kits including R/C, CL and FF. Of course we had a complete wood rack that needed replenishment, hardware rack, dope and other chemicals, foam, covering, fiberglass etc. that order every 8 weeks would usually total 20K to 30K. We also had two competing hobby shops within 30 miles that also carried Sig products. Now that the hobby has gravitated towards mail order so the we the consumers can save a few dollars here and there the hobby shops that kept suppliers like Sig in business are gone. We unfortunately have done this to ourselves, mail order to save money, buying ARFs to save time etc has led to the extinction of dozens of hobby suppliers.
