New Evolution 10cc gas engine

When I fly I watch the airplane. A few years ago I glanced at the T/X and when I looked up the plane wasn't where I thought it should be. I was lucky, and spotted it before something bad happened.

You don't know what your missing I adjust peak within a <div>Couple hundred RPM both top end and bottom. Is there a dedicated thread to the 15cc. I'm curious as to what<div>RPM and prop people are settling on? I've gone from Vess 14/6</div><div>to Vess 13x8 but find that needle setting is very critical. I mean</div><div>one click can make a difference in solid run or in flight quit. Is</div><div>This normal?</div>

Yes I use muffler pressure same bolt pattern but a few mm's wider. And telemetry is nearly<div>Useless without the iPhone interface I listen to spoken altitude and airspeed AFTER I have</div><div>Everything sweet. During initial runs I listen to temp and RPMs as well</div><div>As rx voltage. I NEVER take my eyes off the plane. A tip here, you want to keep the dongle</div><div>away from your body for best reception. I'm using one of those jogger arm bands and</div><div>a single earphone. </div>

Hi guys,
just after I ordered the 10gx I noticed on the manual that gasoline with octane 87-93 is to be used, the only problem is that here in Europe (ch, de, fr, au) the lowest octane possible is 95....
so, is anyone flying it on 95, any issues I should expect because of it?!
many thanks,
dorin

In Europe gasoline is rated differently than here in the states. 95 over there is like 87 or close to it. Use 95 and you will be fine.

I was trying to tune my 10cc today and it was very sluggish at idle. I wound in on the low idle until it was nearly closed and I got excellent response from idle to full noise with 10x8 prop. Very responsive however Im a bit concerned though as manual says 5 3/8 turned out from closed I cant get that many turns on the screw. What am I doing wrong?

If its not new, I'm not really sure and will let others respond. The low speed needle shouldn't have needed much turning from the stock location. The high speed needle does need some adjustment.

I'm setting up one of the 10cc engines for a friend. I have many years experience with larger gassers but this will be the first with these smaller gas engines. Has anyone used any sort of Pitts muffler on this engine? I can make the stock muffler fit but it will require considerable cowl cutting and an extension to get the exhaust out of the cowl. A Pitts would resolve all these issues. I'm open to any suggestions.

Is it new? Assuming it is since you are using the 10x8. Break it in per the instructions, move to a recommended prop like the 12x8 and then get the tuning right.

Yes I did do some testing with this and my experience was that the plugs lasted only about a 1/2 hour of running. It has been a little while and others may be having better experience with this. We also experimented for a while with standard glow plugs and E85 gas with some success but again had a plug longevity problem. In the end we like the ability to control exactly the ignition point with the electronic ignition.

Hi guys,
I finally finished installing the Evo10 on an ESM Iconic XL when I noticed it is way too nose heavy, so now I have to take the ignition unit from under the firewall and place it inside the fuselage.
Now THE question is how close to a servo or receiver can it be placed? I will power everything with a 2s LiPo with an IBEF from troybuildmodels.
Are the current ignition modules noisy as they used to be? I found lots of post pretty much predicting crash on what I want to do, but latest one is dated 2008...
Many thanks for suggestions

Not sure if you've gotten your question answered, but the best and safest way to ensure that you're not too close to the Rx with the ignition is to do a range check with the engine RUNNING. This way if there's any noise interfering you should be able to see it before you're in the air. You should always try to keep it as far as you can from the Rx, but the unit is decently well shielded. The spark plug high voltage wire is more prone to causing inference so try to keep that away from other electronics if you can.
Thanks,
Jimmy

I had trouble keeping the ignition wire on the spark plug. I finally gave up and used safety wire to ensure the spark plug wire stays in place. I have completed break-in runs on my Evo-10 cc gasser but have not had my maiden flight on the new Pheonix Spitfire as yet.
Best wishes and good safe flying.
