Hi every one here,
i m new to the Gas engines. yesterday i was trying to break in the Dle 30 n have some issues wanna discuss it n get help.
i install the engine on the yak 54 by Pilot rc.
i start engine n its start very easily the problem is while i was break in the very first tank on the ground my engine stops all of sudden re start it n it stop again in some time did this for 4 to 5 time n every time engine stops but take long time then comparing every previous time.
i did not change the needle sitting from the factory setting. its the same at 1.5 turn both high n low
some one on the field who was already fly lots of gaser told me ur low end needle is rich make it little lean n he close it then reopen it to 1.2 turn only engine is smooth at low end too .
now the questions is it okey with this setting or do i need to make it rich both as i just born one full tank out of the engine half on ground n half on air with less then 50% throttle.
now next Sunday i will do that again but with ur recommendation.

Check that the plug cap is on completely, if you can see the hex section on the plug it's not fully on. They are really tight, the engine vibration could be breaking the connection,if not that maybe some dirt in the carb .
If you haven't already done so dump the DLE plug and fit an NGK CM6

My Feedback: (2)
John you're more concerned about how it runs than the needle setting? The basic 1.5 turn recommendation is suggested to get the engine started, that's it. From there, it's whatever it takes to get it running right for you/your installation.

Mine did the same exact thing approx 3 week ago during the first tank.................my timing was off,it was set 35BTDC.........set timing at 28 degree,it has ran like a Swiss watch ever since.
I have also read about this problem on this site and other sites as having ignition problems...
Hope this helps a little

Checklist is right about checking the timing , I have several DLE 30's and every one had incorrect timing . Re-set the timing to 28 to 30 degrees BTDC. There are a few videos on here that show how to do that. Be sure you are using an NGK CM6 plug not the Chinese plug from DLE .
The "factory settings" on the carb are only a base setting to get the engine running and will need to be correctly adjusted for your engine/ atmospheric conditions .
The DLE 30 engines run hot when breaking in. Be sure you have proper cooling ventilation on your cowl setup . The engine will get hot quick and will loose power and quit if it isn't getting enough fuel and enough cooling .
I highly recommend that you have someone local who is experienced with gas engines help you learn the details of setting up and tuning them . It may save you some headaches and possibly save an airplane .

Thanks CK1 I always forget to tell people about the NKG CM6............The needles you have will be fine for the start up after timing set. I started my engine with 32:1 oil gas mix........the high oil mix gives plenty lube to all parts and the high oil ratio help in getting rid of the heat of a new engine.
I tweaked the needles and had a great high end scream no sag at high rpm and a good idle...............ran her 1/4 tank shut down did a heat cycle(let her cool off) hour later fired her back up.....4 flips total and checked her with a RPM meter.....7500rpm top 2100rpm idle. My temp gage had her at 171F head temp idle, and 197F full throttle. It was a cool day 42degrees........... She did not pass her range check so flight was put off for now. I pulled the plug after 1/2 tank run, and the plug reads still on the rich side............black plug....I'll leave her their for now and after a few tanks in the air I'll start leaning her out a little at a time until the plug gets more brown than black.
Good Luck

Yes mate you need to set the timing, you may be lucky and it might be alright, but best to check.
If the timing is out it will run like a busted C***
The ignition has an automatic advance so it will start perfectly well set at 28 degree.
When in doubt, set up your equipment to what the manufacturer said to do.
I have had a lot of advice from bozo drunkard know it all's, who when questioned don't even own a gas/petrol powered plane.
So unless those bozo's have gas planes that run perfectly day after day, don't listen to them.
Setting the timing is easy, here is one way to do it http://www.rcextremepower.net/ignition_timing.html
