I have an G-26 without an electronic ignition. It runs and idles good, but I have to use an electric starter to start it. Will it hand start with the electonic ignition. Are there any other benefits to putting the electronic igition on it?

One big advantage to the electronic ignition is easy hand starting. At slow rotation, the spark is at TDC, so no tendency to kick back and it does not take much rpm to get it started. With a magneto ignition, you need a faster spin across the magneto to generate a hot spark. The electronic ignition has a hot spark even at very low rpm.

I run exclusively electronic ignitions because I can't stand the weight of the magneto.
However, I help people start magneto ignition engines all the time. 99% of the time the starting problem is just that they don't know how to start
a magneto ignition engine. G26's are very easy to start with the magneto.
Do you understand the necessary relationship of prop position to coil magnets necessary to start a magneto ignition? If not, find someone at your
field who does to walk you through it and you'll be able to hand-start your G26 every time, just as easily as if it were equipped with an electronic ignition.

Actually I have never tried to hand start my G-26. I have an electric starter that I have been using. The problem is that I have decided to move toward gas vs. glow. I have gotten rid of all but one of my glow engines and it's probably going eventually. I also have a DA-50 and Brison 3.2 which I hand start. I would like to begin hand starting the G-26 also and then I could quit taking the starter, most of the time anyway. I also like the idea of losing a pound or so on the G-26. I am familiar with CH Ignitions but I see in a previous post someone mentioned R.C. Ignition. Now I am wondering which on them to go with. I am going to investigate them a little more tonight...prices, service, etc. Any thoughts?

Here is what I posted recently on another thread.

Now my 2 cents for what it is worth.
First you will not get any better service than thru Ralph @ rcignitions. He will answer every question you could possibly ask. He always has for me. He is out-sourced to fix many other manufactures engines and has a racing history to boot. He probably has been fixing engines for longer than I have been alive. Not that he is that old or anything
Zenoahs are a durable engine, not expensive, but not cheap in the sense of a POS. They are piston ported but so are a lot of engines. (Brison's, Tarus', etc. and they are not considered cheap, infact some are very expensive)
I "believe" my converted g26 weighs 2lbs. 4oz. would have to double check though.
Now for the numbers I see on my new rcignition CONVERTED g26 that only weighs 2lbs+
Mezj-18x6-9100+ rpm with 17+ lbs thrust on a digital fish scale
various 16x8's- approx. 8500-8900 with 13-15 lbs thrust on fish scale
