Hi Dave

Great to hear from you!! Zac still loves his Komet and the P47 is flying again. Was going to the electric fly in at Coolum this week end but its been canceled as the field is under water!

haven't fired it up yet as I am still building the Extra 260. There is a thread on this site on the build of the 260 with mentions to the SPE:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_56...tm.htm#6308362

I bought a JXF 20x10 prop for it from PA and just need to buy a 3" spinner. Bought a 18x10 Zinger but was told to use it for stirring paint![&o]

I did buy a velocity stack for it as well.

Be interested to see how you go with the engine.

What are you mounting it in?

ps: save the 18x10. an SPE26 will turn it pretty good. I use 18x8 on my '26 and it is not too large at all

Many thanks Phil!

I just sent an email to Valley View for a quote on shipping.

Interesting news about True Turn as I see them on most of the Comp ARFs at our club. Precision Aerobatics have a meal spinner as well here in Australia but are out of stock.

What fuel mixture did you use for break in?

fuel mix to start was 32 to 1. in the US that is 4oz to i gallon. after 3 gallons I will switch to amsoil 50 to 1. I must say that at 32 to 1 there is absolutly NO smoke or residue left on the plane. I use Mercury outboard engine oil that can be mixed as low as 100 to 1 in an oil injected outboard engine. Come to think of it I may not switch. Why fix what isn't broke. Here are some pics of the engine and plane.

smooth is one thing you give up with EI. if you had a 1 pound flywheel on the front with a 1 pound magneto it would idle smoother

I figured you guys would want to see this one. It is my Extra 300, at 15 lbs, with an SPE 40 modified. It has lots of power, you can see it at :[link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5p5WOvCHBk[/link]

That's a nice vid!!! tons of power, this extra i'm building should only be in the 10 lb range. Even with the heavier airplane what kind of run times do get and what size fuel tank are you running??? I'm pretty sure this has a 12oz tank.

This is what was done to the engine:
Increased compression (copper gasket), walbro carburetor, enlarged intake, modified muffler, changed spark plug & gaped right, balanced crank shaft, changed ignition. Prop run is a MA scimitar 20 X 8

How much did your velocity stack set you back? Brillelli has them for $3.50 USD, but i'm sure shipping would make it uneconomical...

I'm thinking of getting the "rear dump pitts muffler" from BCMA but they are out of stock according to the web page...

Mine is going into this:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5869761/tm.htm

It's a pretty full on kit bash....

Thanks

Dave

here is a velocith stack I made so it could be installed AFTER the cowling was installed. they come in various sizes with screw threads. they are usually free. you can paint to match like I did for my gold colored cowling

I bought my velocity stack from Tower Hobbies for about 7.99 US ( I think) made by Great Planes.

I dont have a servo on the choke which I dont think is needed. Besides with the 40cc you dont want go adding weight to the nose as it is.

The GP velocity stack polishes up real nice [8D]

Can someone walk me through the fuel and 2 stroke oil mixing? I don't quite understand the ratios [&:]

I gather I'll need some kind of measuring cup/bottle.

I have bought a 5lt fuel can and some Motul 880T oil, how many mil per litre of fuel do I mix?

first you determine the mixture. for break in you want 32 to 1. 1 litre is 33.8 us ounces. in that case I would put .114 litre to each litre of gasoline. so in your 5 litre can you would put .568 litre of oil. in the us we put 4 oz in a gallon

This is what I was told:

30:1 = 166ml to 5lt

40:1 = 125ml to 5lt

50:1 = 100ml to 5lt

Also was told that I should run mineral oil for the first 5lt of fuel to run-in the engine??

I asked PeakModel and they said to run the synthetic would be fine.

I have a little cup that says 30ml equals 1 oz. there for I would put 120ml in a us gallon for 32 to 1. there are 128oz in a gal and that is 4.55 litres so 132ml would be 32 to 1 for break in or even 140 for the first 5 litre can. the US importer specifies chain saw oil. 166 seems rich but better than lean

Thanks Phil

I guess I should go out and buy a measuring cup/bottle. The mineral oil idea came from someone who owns Desert Aircraft engines and he does that with every engine.

I gather it wouldnt hurt to run the mineral oil first up and its fairly cheap so, why not.

Monkey see, monkey do

I dont spend a cent on this measuring apparatus as I am using an used cough drop plastic bottle from the clinic, that has gradations in the 10 ml interval. It measures 100 ml when full. Very handy indeed.
