There is absolutely no mystery attached to getting your SPE 40 to run well, or does it need any longer than usual break in time. Just be patient with it and follow all the advice and suggestions that you have been given, and it's more than likely you will end up with an engine that is easy to start, relaible and a good performer. So many before you have found it to be so, it should be no different for you.

Thanks for the vote of confidence

I ordered a Dynatron starter so maybe starting will be a lot easier!
Not sure about the comment to fly it without a cowl. It is a pain taking it off as don't want to crack it trying to move it over the velocity stack, but theres a large opening into the fuse on the Extra 260 and...
Maybe if I can block it off some how and deflect the air turbulence?

Yeah I might try a 20x8 soon as DA get the Xoar props in stock.
The 20x10 I have have has been quoted by a few US distributors of the engine as the ideal size prop.

Used Motul 800T synth with BP Ultimate fuel with a 32:1 (150ml to 5lt)
I was lucky enough to get advise from the guy who designed the SPE40 and he recommended synth oil for the break in.
I sure hope it becomes easy to start as it hasn't been that yet. Again I am hoping the Dynatron will solve my starting probs as I do have a weak wrist/arm from a bike accident.

It gets confusing doesn't it. [&:]
The internet forums are great but you get too many opinions and info and you get pulled one way and the other.
Times like these I love my electric planes, pop a lipo in and fly! but I love the bigger planes and anything above 30 size in lecky plane is not cost effective.
I was just told ( from the FG site) that Motul 800T should be run on 50:1 and anything less creates deposits! See what I mean more *&%$ info!!

I am thinking of drilling 2 small holes in the firewall so I can get access to the high and low needles without removing the cowl.
I gather 2 x 2-5mm holes shouldn't weaken the firewall.

The CDI for my SPE 40 engine is malfunction now. The rpm at idling is ok, but rpm could not rev up. May I know from where can I buy one better CDI for this engine? I know where to get the stock CDI but I would prefer a better brand.

Before you run out and buy a new unit just make sure that the internal carb screen is not blocked as when that happens it gives the very same problem.
CH Electronics manufacturers excellent ignition systems and makes a model that is a replacement for your original unit.

Go Crabby!
I maidened the Extra last week. Just 2 flights, but need to get the tuning of the carb right. Not sure if I should fly it with the cowl off or not to tune up.
