I took the Giles 202 back out for another round of successful flying today. It was a muggy day and I had to tweak on the 26cc a bit but finally got it to run at 8600 - 8700 rpm and once again I flew 6 flights and the engine performed just fine. Using the 90 degree elbow has really made a difference in how this little engine runs. I'm still having a hard time getting a good choke and start method and seem to fight it every time but it does start and runs good.

Some purge bulbs can be installed in line to carb. Maybe that may help. Or use a small prime bottle....and give it a shot when cold. Good Luck Capt,n

Try this when starting..
#1 Full throttle (ig. off )
#2 choke (or thumb)
#3 rock prop back and forth till you feel gas (5 - 10 times)
#4 open choke (remove thumb) and flip threw 5 times
#5 back to idle (little bit of trim)
#6 ig. on choke closed should pop in 2-6 flips
#7 open choke and flip should start in 3-7 flips
If you dont have a choke skip 6 and just start flipping. You have to learn about step 4 sometimes its 3 flips sometimes more.. my one engine I flip it 13 times and it fires up first flip every time. MY Brillelli 46 starts on first or 2nd flip everytime after I flip it through with no thumb and full throttle 4 times.
Hope this helps..

sinergy,
Thanks for the info. Since I have installed the 90 degree elbow I can no longer stick my finger straight in the velocity stack and feel the gas. When I stick my finger in the elbow and start running the prop over it's already flooded by the time it gets to my finger. It's a little tricky, seems like it wants to be wet but not to wet to start. I tried plugging the end of the elbow and with the EI on flipping it until it popped and then remove the plug and started flipping but it did work out very good. They shouldn't be that hard to get started but it sure is something to figure out a good method.

OK farmer approach. Take a cork that will fit the end of the elbow. Drill a 1/8 hole through it. Stuff in carb. flip till it pops remove cork and start. Adjust hole size utill you have prefect choke.

Well guys, I'm hoping my Giles will ship this week from ak-models, and I think I've decided on the motor. Despite my incredible trade this weekend...I traded into an EVO26 w/ a pitts pipe (I'll use a tuned pipe on it)...I'm gonna put the EVO in my Showtime and get a 40GT for my Giles. I talked to a couple of flying buddies and they BOTH ordered 26's, so I have to go a little bigger
I've been trading emails with Scott, and I'd like the mounts to be the right length. Aerobob or jstanton, do you have your 40 mounted to your Giles yet? If so, could you measure from the back of the prop to the firewall and Scott will cut the standoffs to length.
Man, I'm getting pretty excited about the Giles w/ that 40!!! My Showtime w/ a Saito 125 is great, but with the EVO26 it should be insane, and so will the Giles!
Thx.

I just got my cowl mounted tonight - my prop hub is 5 and 1/8th from the firewall - of course I'm running the 26 on mine with 3/8 in standoffs, but still - the cowl could slide a little farther in on the fuse, and a little farther out.
The website says the 40 is 5.4 inches ~ 138mm where the 5 1/8th is about 130mm - so it's really up to you how you have scott cut them.

water.boy - I don't have the Giles anymore (but Adrenaljunky does).... my Brillelli 40cc is on the front of my WildHare 73" Edge. Not finished yet.
I owned the 25GT - and have run a friends' 46, my 40cc....(which is an SPE that Scott mods). No offense intended to anyone, but I just have to say this, guys. If you all are having all these "starting" problems, and "running" problems, maybe you need a different game.... properly adjusted, these motors start well, when not flooded, and they run VERY well in the air ---- again, if PROPPED correctly, and ADJUSTED correctly.
These carbs are not rocket science, and the Brillelli does not require some bizarre, exotic setup, tuneup, starting procedure to run right. Good gas, mixed properly with good oil, the right prop, and correct adjustment.
I'm sorry for those of you having such troubles, but thankfully, (at least going by posts on RCU), there are not many "issues" with the Brillelli motors.

Thanks for the measurement adrenalnjunky! I looked at the photos on the web site and it looks like the mounts are just long enough to clear the crankshaft, so if there's enough wiggle room with the cowl, I'll just save Scott the trouble of cutting them.
Someone on here had some Brillelli decals cut and I'm wondering if I could score a couple for a little dough. I would happily Paypal someone if they could send a couple to me.

Waterboy,
I do not recieved my 40GT yet, but I know Scott is working on getting it out to me. The length from the firewall to the back of the prop on my Giles-202 was 5.5 inches. Scott says the length of the 40GT is 5.4 inches so it should just be a matter of installing the engine on the engine box and than placing the cowling on.

jongurley, I don't know any reason they wouldn't work on a 46cc. Originally, I was just plugging the carb throat but that flooded the engine. So I drilled through and stuck a brass tube through and it worked out.
aerobob, I'm not having a problem cranking my 25GT and the more I run it, the easier it is to crank. However, I must say that all engines don't act the same. I have two other gassers and from a cold start they will crank with fewer flips than the Brillelli. With the Brillelli from a cold start, I open the throttle full, stick in the "choke", turn on the ignition and flip maybe 8 or 10 times until it fires. Then, remove the choke, throttle down to maybe two clicks open, maybe 4 or 5 flips and it runs. I don't think that's too bad but it ain't perfect. I'm not complaining.

Waterboy,
I was going to get some Brillelli vinyl labels made, but Scott told me has has some know. I can still get some made and it is OK with Scott. I did not have anyone else respond to my post about getting any made. If I can get a few guy's who want them I can still get them done. I was going to get them done in Black Bold Italic print and they where going to be 1" x 3". A nice size for the cowling or cockpit area.
I just talked to Scott and he is a little behind because of what happened to him and his family last week. He is going to get the 40GT out to me this week and I hope to be flying the Giles again real soon. I just ordered the Brillelli 60cc 366GT engine. It should do wonders for my GSP 80" Cap-232. I will be posting a build on it in the ARF section.

Hi all
Just found this thread today... I am building a CMP ZERO and using the 25cc gt and found Scott to be the best guy in the world to work with. I baught the engine probably 6 months ago and He took extra time to tap the crank for me for smoke. I had some things going on on and just finishing the ZERO now. Should be a great combo. I did buy a second engine the SPE 25cc but didn't know Scott was selling them... Would have baught one of his that he has modified. Would have been worth the extra $. I want to put the 25cc in my Gee Bee. I have 3 Brisson engines 2 40cc and 1 50cc and have loved them because of the reliability. Now that Brisson is in different hands I have been looking elswhere for engines and I think Scott will be my choice for larger engines.
Just a quick question so I don't have to bug Scott with it... What oil mix were you using for the 25GT 40:1?

Bull, I've been looking at that same CMP Zero, only I'd get mine from Alex at ak-models.com. He's out of stock on them right now, but I was thinking the Brillelli 26ss would be a nice fit. My buddy has a CMP Corsair of the same scale, and he's putting an OS 160 on his. I've been telling him to go gas and the Brillelli 26, but he's resisted.
I don't know the difference myself, but I'd guess the 160 would have more power, but weight wise both motors look to be the same w/ muffler, and the 160 says it needs a 450-550cc tank and I'm sure the gas would be MUCH less. I'm wondering if the trade in fluid weight might make the overal power to weight about the same.

Bull,
I had 2 25GT engines from brillelli and they where great engines until I sold them to a club member so i could buy the Brillelli 40GT. I use Opti-2 two cycle oil in all of my 2 cycle gas engines. It comes in a 1.8oz package and all you do is poor that into 1 gallon of gas and your done. It works on all 2 cycles engine no matter the mix ratio. It comes out to a 70 to 1 ratio and I have never had a engine failure using it. When I first started using the Opti-2 two cycle oil I noticed an increase in 400 RPM on my converted Ryobi I had at the time. That Ryobi is still flying today in a club members 110" Cub. This is great oil. Here is the web site for more information about it. I get it at my local small engine shop who swears but the stuff.

stupid question for you guys flying the CMP giles - but it never hurts to ask right?
Are you using the stock fuel tank, and if so - did you swap the stopper out to a gas-rated one, or is the stock one holding up? I have a Dubro gas stopper conversion, but it doesn't fit in the tank as snugly as the included one.

You should swap out the stopper if you use gas! I usually use sullivan conversion stippers so I don't know what to say about the Dubro.
I haven't done a final check on my ZERO yet to see CG, but have balanced it quickly on my fingers and it seems to be around 145mm from leading edge. The specs call for 148mm - 155mm, but most are saying to move it to 135mm - 145mm Like I said I used the 25cc with mag. / not electronic ignition. I used a 16oz fuel tank and I added a B&B smoke system with a small 4% smoke tank. With glow the fuel tank goes up by the fire wall which puts it in front of the CG. With gas you can move it so I put it back right on the CG, so I stacked the 4oz smoke tank on top of it... I have friends who have P-47's, Corsairs, and Mustangs. I want to have it so we can do mock air combat and be able to in the end hit the smoke to look like the ZERO is hit! Silly but fun for Fun fly shows.
Since going to gas a few yrs ago I have slowly sold or switched my planes over... Now that these lighter 26cc and 20cc engines are out it makes it easier... My one friend just put the Zenoah 20cc in the Hanger 9 P-47 Thunderbolt and it works great... Just the difference in fuel cost makes it worth the change let alone the mess.
Now that Fuel cost for Premium gas has gone up I have been checking into running Coleman Fuel... Works the same but cleaner then gas and doesn't have the smell...
I have a DR-1 that I take to shows and one of my friends flys a Snoopy dog house and we put on a show for people at the show.
I have always used Klotz syntech oil in my brisons but they call for 80 : 1 and they show other mixes and say go with what the manufacturer suggests... I'm going to stick with the Klotz it's got a great reputation. I just didn't know what was recommended for the 25cc GT toro... for mix ratio.
Good luck... Tell your friend go gas wants he switches to gas he wont go back Glow!

BULL-RCU,
The oil mix for both the Brillelli 25cc and 26cc are 50:1, 2.6 oz per gallon. This is whats on the spec sheet you get with your engine. I have been using LAWN-BOY 2-CYCLE oil with my 26cc engine.
This is for the guys running the Brillelli 40cc engine. Does it start any better than the 26cc engine??? I'm looking strongly at this engine and would like to buy one after I get back from vacation.

Zippi, I just ordered my 40 this morning and I'd be happy to let you know how it turns out. I'm a "novice" tuner but I can usually get them pretty close. I haven't had a finicky motor yet as far as starting goes, so I'll be sure to note what hoops I have to jump through to get the 40 to start.

Any info would be helpful and info from anyone else that has the Brillelli 40cc would be nice also.
Anyone else have any new video of their plane flying with a Brillelli engine??? Doesn't matter what size engine you have or what plane, if you have a video, show us what ya got boys.
