Unfortunatley not at the moment, the last one sold Saturday but I'm expecting my order to be with me by the end of the week.

RE: Area 51 engines
Milton,
I need another muffler.
Has anyone else had their muffler come apart on them? This is my 2nd one now, where the back part of the can has blown out. This one only lasted 4 flights.
Maybe some of you aren't even using the stock muffler?

RE: Area 51 engines
Is the paint covering a lack of welding?
This isn't a good report, as I am sure the same process is used on the 102 stock mufflers, and I haven't flown any of them yet.
Are muffler issues with this engine common?

Is there a rear dump muffler for the Area 51 out there? The cowl on the Extra I'm picking up is cut for a DA-50 with a rear dump muffler and I'd hate to have to cut it some more for the side muffler.

RE: Area 51 engines
Ham, Will get you another one out tomorrow.
I don't know what is going on with the mufflers, So far Ham is the only one that it has happened to. (two times)
The one ham sent back to me the weld if fine it failed where the edges bend to wrap onto the round part of the muffler.
I know of two of the engines that have well over 50 flight and mufflers are holding up well so far.
That was one thing that I did not like about some of the first engines I got from other manufactures was the thin and soft aluminum mufflers and these seemed to be very strong.
Bob our 102 has about 25 flight and the mufflers are doing good on it so far also.

If you are talking about a pitts style muffler, Anything that will fit a Sacks 3-7 or 4.2 will work, Such as a Fox, Brisson and any brand that uses a Sacks cylinder.
Slimline makes one for a 3.7 or 4.2

Just seen where J-Tec makes a muffler for the Sacks 4.2

RE: Area 51 engines
I have to admit, I really prefer the J'Tec "standard" Pitts muffler above the Slimline and Bissons. It's a preference thing, to be sure, but J'Tec is "solid", and really mellows out the tone (at least on other engines). I will probably get one for this 51.

RE: Area 51 engines
I thought about it, but forgot to weigh my new engines.... I have the XYZ and Area 51 both, and wanted to do that but... in my haste to get them running, blew it off.
I will update it removing the Brillelli stuff, though. It is rather pointless to leave it out there.

RE: Area 51 engines
Just ordered one last night hope to have it by this weekend but I wont be firing it up for awhile till I get the plane built for it...
Should be fun, it's an Ultra RC Katana that's rated for a 40cc but I'm going to try and shoe-horn the 51 in it...

RE: Area 51 engines
I was at a event in NC a couple weeks ago and talked to Al from J Tec about making mufflers for the Area 51cc and have sent him a Email to confirm that he will, When I hear from him I will post and let everyone know.
A lot of people say they like his pitts style mufflers over others.

I have a gallon and a half through one muffler and no problems yet. I machined the mating surface with the engine flat. Two have come cupped slightly (.010" or so) and they stay on much better and don't leak when I machine them flat. Maybe this is the problem with the two that failed but I'm not sure of that. I know mine vibrated loose when it wasn't perfectly flat. Vibration kills.

RE: Area 51 engines
Again this may be the UK concern about noise talking, but the J Tec exhausts are very noisy. they were sold over hear a year or so ago, and no body used them due to the noise.
Might be worth checking on them if you fly in a noise restricted area.

RE: Area 51 engines
I was at our field today with Paul from Gashangar and did some noise checks on his own Area 51.
He was using a really good pits exhaust with twin outlets behind the motor "firing" into the ground and a 22 x 8 carbon prop. With the model sitting on grass, the noise level was 88dB at 7 metres, our limit is 82dB. This gives you some idea of the challenge we have in the UK.
I am still waiting on my new exhaust, but once it comes I will put some pics on here with the RPM figures and noise levels. It may help some others that live in noise concious areas.

The two mufflers that failed on me did not come loose from the engine.

RE: Area 51 engines
What size bolts are used on the firewall end of the Area 51's stand-offs? I tried using the ones that had mounted the DA-50 that was on the Extra before but the threads don't match. I've got the firewall re-drilled and just need to get it mounted.
Bill
BTW - the engine is beautiful and Curtis at EF had it in my hands nice and quick!
