I got the DLE55 From Valley View RC http://www.valleyviewrc.com/index.html. I talked to Tom and I paid about $410.00. I know there is cheaper ways to get one but I wanted to get one from someone I can send it back to if I have problems.

And thats exactly what you will get when you buy anything from Jody & Tom ( excellent customer service ).
They stand behind what they sell and know what they are doing.

RE: WOW!! New DL 111cc and 55cc !
Tom, I don't normally bad mouth anything based only on my experience. However, at my flying field there are 4 guys with DA's. A 50, 85, 100, and 170 cc's. With the exception of the 170, the rest can never get their motors started. In fact the 85cc was brand new on a brand new airframe and the guy could not get it to start after trying for over 2 hours. He had to send it back to DA and hasn't gotten it back yet. The other two have similar problems. The 50cc guy has sent his back 3 times so far. There are 2 DL's at the field, a 50 and 100 cc. I own the 100cc. It is on a Aero-works 100cc Yak-54. Both DL's (50 and my 100) fired up right out of the box as advertised and have been going strong ever since. I have about 3 gallons of gas through mine.
I hope this helps a little.
By the way, the guy with the 170cc loves it and it runs fine.
Tom.

I really doubt those other DA engines are the problem ANYONE who spends ove 5 minutes tryingto start a gasse -simply does not have a proiper ,reasonably good background in basic gas engine use.
I also went thru the learning stages the hard way (way over 5 mins) before I got the basic info I needed .
I decided that there must be a very basic troubleshooting guide for any gas model engine .
So I made my own and it works -for me
any enginethat has not started after basic drill - (get it wet then add ignition)
Gets a step by step checkout
just cranking away is futile.

Those people should talk to someone with more experience with gas engines.
Regardless of brand they need spark, fuel, and air.. if you aren't getting all 3 you can spend 4 hours trying to start it and nothing is going to change.

RE: WOW!! New DL 111cc and 55cc !
guys i started my new dl55 today, let it run on lawnboy 32-1 for 10 min, cool down and restarted, went trough that cycle 4 times and this thing is running great, have it hung on a wildhare 88'' edge and had to move everything as far foward as possible to get it to balance,i think this is going to be nice, will maden it on wendsday and let you all know how it goes, by the way the rep local for dls has the 55 at 349,00 the 110 are at 599,00 he is at this time out of the 110.00 , his name is ron nestler and he can be reached at area code 904-223-0805, let him know saw my post if you order, he is a great guy , retired and will do all warranty work in house if needed.thanks craig

Let's think about this. We have been buying cheap line trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers etc. etc. for years from Home Depot, Walmart, and other home centers. These units all come with cheap Chinese gas engines and they seem to run fine for years and years with hardly a glitch. Seems to me that the Chinese have it down somewhat. This ain't rocket science. Seriously folks, we are talking about the simplest of motors. You don't need to spend big bucks to get good motors.
DA are probably really good engines, but my Homelite line trimmer has worked fine for years. I do zero maintenance on it, leave gas in the carb when I store it, never a drop of after run oil in it , run it with old gas etc, and it keeps on chuggin' away year after year after year.

Well said Cashpoboy, that's what I've been thinking for years with all the battles that go on here. Even though my trimmer doesn't have a battery for the ignition.

I don't really think you are comparing apples to apples here. You use your Homelite for what maybe 20 mins every other week for the time your grass actually grows? I don't know about you but I tend to fly more than a 20 min flight in a 2 week period. Infact I personally fly upwards of 15-20, 20 min flights any given week.
I have a couple friends in the Landscaping business and none of them are using Homelite products or any other low end consumer grade product for that matter. Why? Because they don't last and downtime cost money.
You need to decide what's important to you and leave it at that. Do I spend an extra $100 for an Echo trimmer? No I buy a Homelite.. I trim for like 10 mins and I am done. If it stops working and I can't cut my grass that day, oh well I will go flying However I don't want to be at the field, a meet, or an IMAC contest and have an engine let me down.

I know this is going to be a shock to some of you out there, but we are talking about toys. No really I can't believe I actually said it......toys.
Did everybody forget we are talking about toys. These are toys, so what if I get 100 rpm less than the other guy. Eventually they all end up as scrap anyway.
I have been flying since 1976 and have flown my share of RC planes. I still remember that they are toys.
Twice I have taken an RC plane and flown it straight into the ground just for the thrill of it. One was a quicky 500 with a Rossi 40 going balls to the wall. That was awesome! The other was a 25 size powered glider straight into concrete. Engine ripped to shreds. That was cool too.
I can do this because I remember that I am playing with toys and sometimes it is fun to smash your Tonka truck just for the hell of it. Remember when you were five and actually had fun with your toys. Don't get so attached to these things guys. Life is too short.

You are right Jake. It all depends on what you want to do with it. I am fine with Homelite too. It all depends on how serious you are about your RC. I have fun with all of it. I know that some guys earn their bread and butter with them and every detail counts. For most of us apples or oranges will work just fine.

Its a wholesaler and usually ships out engines in 4 or 6 per pack. They are very reliable and will give you incredibly low prices if you buy in bulk.

Hey Guys,
A word of caution to DLE 111 owners. My engine has ran ok from the start. Except, since the very first flight the left cylinder (from the cockpit) ran rich and the right, very lean. I assumed the rings would eventually seat. Instead the ring stuck in the right cylinder. Upon inspection i noticed a gouge in the piston and a burr on the cylinder. The castings on these engines are not of the highest quality. In reading these threads, I have noticed a few of you having the same problem, one cylinder running rich and one running lean. If it does not straighten out quickly send it in or inspect it, before it leaves you hangin'. I purchaced the engine at Troy Built and will let you know what they say tomorrow. Here are some pics. Good eye, I think you nailed it. I can't see a curve on the left side ring to go around the pin. It looks like a vertical fracture.
Edit: I increased the brightness of my screen and I think the ring might not be broke. I think I can see the curve to go around the pin now.

Yep, hard to see it could just be the ring is open that wide.
It does kind of look like a pin curve in the ring.
We'll just need to see what his answer is.
With the wade of material at the top of the piston, looks like it went from the bottom up.

Ten bucks say it was crap in the engine not cleaned out at the factory.
I have read several accounts of guys disassembling their motors before the first run only to find casting burrs and the like inside.
I would highly recommend taking these motors apart to give them a thorough cleaning/deburring prior to first run.
If this is done, I have heard the results to be very good.
PS. The ring looks good to me guys. Not sure what you are looking at.
