Well i have one funtana 90 with a saito 150 and it flies great but the 3d power is limited.. and another funtana 125 but that one has a saito 180.
I was thinking of ordering another dle30 side carb and putting it on the one that has the 150

The side carb will fit in your cowl just fine, will have killer power, just keep the speed down. The all up weight wont be much more than the 150 (maybe an oz or 2) since you will only need a 12 oz gas tank. I think my dle vibrates at an idle a little more than the crrc, but not any more than a saito 150.

Yea. I have to admit, I could have cut the hole about 1/32 to 1/16'' smaller in a couple of places during my first and only attempt..............
There ya go, See, I admitted a mistake

Tower also has a few of the side carb engines left also. I just ordered another one a few days ago, supposed to show up today. Better hurry though, not sure how many left.

Hey everybody,
I'm new to RCU and I'm planning to buy a dle30 with rear carb. for my extreme flight yak 54 74".
Would I have enough power for beginning 3D? How much throttle for hovering?
And what would you guys suggest for prop when running in?
Jasper

Depends upon the plane and what you want it to do. I have mine in a H-9 Taylorcraft and I am using a 20X6 MA. It flies very realistically, does great acrobatics, and lands terrific.
You can goto 8 to 10 inches of pitch and you can have more speed if that is what you want. Likely you will need to go to an 18 inch diameter for those pitch choices.
Buy different props and experiment til you get what you want. Bye the way, the engine runs flawlessly. I did solder over the hole on the butterly to get better fuel draw while choking. The mod took about 15 seconds.

If the plane is kept under 12 pounds it will be fine for 3d.
Since this will be your first gas engine there's some learning to do. First is that you do not buy run in props. Buy the prop sizes you intend to fly with. Read some of the numerous posts about break in and tuning. Do not break it in or tune it like a glow engine. Ever.

I was thinking on a 18x8 prop for running in and a 18x10 for 3D flying.
I think the weight of the plane would be a bit less then 12lbs.
But would I have enough power for 3D: hover, (rolling) harrier, knife edge, ....

I have the hyperion yak 54. I'm a little over 12lbs. I'm still breaking the engine in, so not much 3din, and honestly I don't think its going to be an all out 3der, more basic,so I would think it would be ok for begining 3d. Try to keep the weight down

My edge weighs 12lb 13oz, it will pullout of a hover with a 20x6 Zinger pro ok, it doesnt like a vertical snap at least when its 90 deg. f outside. I think you will be OK for most 3D at 12lb or less.

Many define "3d power" as the ability to rocket out of a hover. I do not view "3d power" that way. For me it's the ability to provide enough power to climb out of a hover while accellerating on the vertical upline without additional maneuvering, and with the ability to maintain high alpha flight for extended periods of time. Never having doubt in the ability of the aircraft to maintain stable flight at extremely slow flight speed.

I agree with T.O.M that's why i love the power i have with the dle30.. inmense amounts of power to pull out of a hover or any other manuver
Yet on my saito 150 for some reason when new it had a lot of power but now that's its had a lot of flight sunder its belt it seems to be lagging.. still has power but not like it did when new.

My DLE 30 is gonna power my MXS on it's maiden flight in the morning. After I see how the plane flies, then I'll decide if I'm going to cut the firewall some and install the rear carb version that I also have. This thread has been very informative~~~~~
