RE: NEW DLE30!
what is the smallest size prop i can use on this motor i want to put it on a seagull edge 540 69inch v2 but prop clearance has me worred i have a os 120 2stroke on it right now with at 16x8 and i think that is about as big as i need to go i might be able to go up to 17 but not sure.....i guess i could always get a taller gear

RE: NEW DLE30!
In regards to the fuel issue, I run 91 octane in most of my engines. Usually i try too get fuel without ethanol,it`s derarer and getting harder to find. I must admit in the pat that the fuel probably has had ethanol, which gas had no bad results at all.
In my piped motors i use 98 which IS zero ethanol. This fuel is easier to prevent detonation in the piped motors only.
In Australia we have 91ron 10% ethanol, 91ron no ethanol. 95ron no ethanol and 98ron no ethanol. OH! and a new one, very rare, 85 something or other. I think it`s 85/15% ethanol and not the octane rating.

That is a very good possibility. I hadn't thought of that. I will try your solution and let you know what happens. Thanks.

My guess is that there is a change in pressure inside the cowl that is affecting the carb's ambient pressure reference diaphragm, which is located under that little square plate with the hole in it. This can definitely make the engine run as you described.
The solution is to solder a nipple in the plate where the little hole is, and to run a piece of fuel tube back inside the fuse where the air pressure remains constant. I have done this a few times and it has worked every time.

Let me run this by you guys and see what you think. My DLE30 V2 runs great at all attitudes, however, when I do a vertical figure 8 and come out on the last part (bottom) of the 8 from being inverted back to level the engine sputters and almost dies every time. It only does it at the exact same spot in that maneuver every time and it does it no matter what the throttle setting is. I put the plane in every extreme positive/ negative G maneuver I know how to do plus inverted flight, outside loops with snaps at the top..you name it and it doesn't miss a lick. I checked the clunk and there are no problems with the tank. The engine is on a CG Sukhoi and it has about 1 gal of gas through it, Xoar 19x8 prop, Pennzoil at 32:1.
I can't figure out why it only does it in that one place in that figure 8 and nowhere else.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Bill

so do yall think this engine would be too much for a seagull edge 540 with a 68 inch wing span right now i have a 0s 120ax on it and it weights in at 9.5 pounds with no fuel in it

Questions DLE 30 First gas engine will a ball link 2-56 work ok on the gas and kwik link on the choke . 2-56 metal rods I read some where that the metal rods have some interference with the ignition is that right . Should i use another size or type any other tips welcome .

If there were to be interference, it would be with the receiver.
You can also get individual servo glitching by running a servo lead wire very close to a battery. I've seen this first-hand.
A choke servo is not absolutely necessary, and if you're looking to save some weight that would save you a couple of ounces.

My club has a 95db noise restriction. Anyone know how loud the DLE-30 is with the stock muffler? How about with a J'tech pitts or the Bisson Custom Pitts?

RE: NEW DLE30!
I have struggled with my side carb DLE 30 and cannot get rid of a stumbling/missing region in the lower half of the throttle. The idle seems ok but not very reliable with respect to being repetitive. I have about two gallons of fuel through it on a Cessna 195 with out the cowl installed. Except to adjust the needles all of the time is in the air. At this point it accelerate fine, maybe a very small stumble on the first take off, but then quickly and easily goes to full power Zoar 18-6, Pennszoil air cooled two stroke at 32:1, 89 octane pump gas and an NGK CM-6 plug. In the air it is fine all the way down to about half power and below that it runs fine but, stumbles and stutters.
Has anyone used the rear carb conversion kit and what was your experience with respect to better engine running properties? I have the kit but, wonder if it is worth the effort your thoughts and input would be helpful. My flying buddy has the same engine, same plane and is experiencing the exact same performance on his DLE-30.
Does the new side carb V2, from the factory or using the conversion kit, run any better. I am really impressed with the power output. Thank you in advance for any thoughts, advice, or input.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Howard,
I have the same problems that you describe on the same engine. Plus, mine spits oily exhaust out all over the plane (yes, its tuned right) even though it has almost 4.5 gals thru it. So I installed the rear carb conversion and zero difference. I can get it to idle lower than 1900-2K rpms, but it has to be excessively rich or it will just randomly cut out. And it still spits oily exhaust ever where.
I have a new piston ring coming, hopefully that helps. If it doesn’t, my last resort is a new carb.
Speaking of a new carb, does anyone know if there is a one for one replacement from the Tillotson carb to a Walbro carb that will fit? Who sells em?
I will let you know what the results are with a new ring…

The DLE30 with stock exhaust and a Xoar laminated 19x8 prop is 95db on the nose at 25 feet to the side of the engine over grass.
