ORIGINAL: Tired Old Man

PlaneK.,

The retaining strips actually permit a more even and consistent reed seal but there's a caveat. On my stock 30 I tossed the reed stop and substituted a retention strip with some real screws. If you leave the bottom edge of the strip square it generates a stress riser in the reed. You should radius the forward bottom edge of reed retainers.
Yes, I agree with the radius. MVVS uses this in thier 58. 8.

The new MT35 uses metal reeds.

My engine couldn't idle less then 2800ish and die right after landing. Last November when it got cold it turned horrible. it kept dieing on first roll! <div>

I'm running mine in a Pilot yak also. I never actually tried to see if the engine would do the tilt and die thing, I just wanted a reliable low idle. Before my best reliable idle was 1900-2000. Now 1600-1700 will putter all day. A plane that floats with a high idle sucks, so this makes me very happy

Before, if I throttled back abruptly, it would sometimes kill the engine, Now I can bounce the throttle up and down with nary a whimper. It seems like the Cyberplate makes the low speed needle less sensitive, and much easier to tune also.

I am running 100LL avgas in mine, as the local fuel is hit and miss. 7800 rpm on 19 by 8 Xoar.

With any luck, tomorrow will be a nice day, and I can actually fly it, I am sure the flame-out on landing will be gone.

Has anyone else found the low end easier to tune? or Is it just my imagination?

Thanks again Richard for a great product

Cheers
R.D.

Hi jfckelly
The low end adjustment was one of the first things that Jody made mention of to me, said that was alot less sensitive, which stands to reason, the bottom end is not in a near flooded state all the time.
I'm pleased you like your assy. These sort of posts almost make it worth the time and effort *L*

Hi Doug
Yes I seen them , very clean set up ,it should be a winner all the way around now.
I like to see very sanitary setups such as yours is.
Richard.

Has anyone else done any testing with the rear carb assembly?
I have had several late comers wanting an assembly, so depending on what happens between now and when I get these finished there might be a chance of another small run of parts.

While I'm sitting here waiting "patiently" would some of you "experts" tell us waiters how the install went. Specifically, how the plate installed on the motor. Any suggestions? Cautions? Thanks

There is a set of instructions that comes with the plate assy, its as Hutchi says plug and play or it should be. I'm back out to the shop just popped in for a min and checked mail.
BTW for those of you that are waiting, the progress is going great much better than the first run of parts.
Richard.

Temp 56 degrees, 32% humidity. sea level

30:1 oil, 64 oz of fuel thru it.

Vess 19A 7800 rpm peak.

Added 1 oz of castor to the gallon of Mobil 2T fuel and got 7900 peak.

I'll switch to Pennzoil Air cooled @ 32:1 and see what happens.

With how well Richard has written up the instructions a person would be hard pressed to mess up and do it wrong. Like it has been said it is plug and play. From anyone that has had the chance to run theirs it solves all known issues with the engine.....I just wish it would warm up here so I can run mine. Maybe Sunday.

I can't take all the credit on the instructions, I wrote up a set and sent them off to Jody to refine. So you can thank him.

I'm finishing up the outside of the parts now, this is a slow process, but like all things I have found another way to do this faster I hope. This is where a CNC would come in very handy.
Now if I can just get one of my 4 legged kids to get well I'll be in fat city.
What a terrible feeling ,you know there in pain and can't do nothing about it cept take um to the doc and that dosent seem to always work out for the best.

Surprise, surprise, you added oil and got more power...
People still think 100-1 oil is better ????

I was already running at 30:1 Mobil 2T sythetic. Then added 1 oz castor. Mobil is know for very clean burning but higher temps and reduced rpm.

I'm switching to Pennzoil air cooled at 32:1 and see what I get.
