Servo choices

I just ordered a Racer II kit and will order a SS Jett 40 in a week or so. This is the setup recommended for "standard" class racing here in Indiana and surrounding area. I will be using Futaba radio and want to know what servos would be appropriate. I don't want to buy digitals if they are overkill but don't want to underbuy and have poor performance because of the servos.
Thanks,,,basmntdweller

The futaba that most of the racers are using is the 3002.
However at about $65 these get a bit spendy.
Many racers are using Hitec 225s Nylon Geared servos in Q500 planes at nearly a 1/3rd the price of the 3002. They are also quite a bit lighter.
I use Futaba Radios with Hitec servos, and do not feel like I am buying a sub-standard servo by any means. I am betting a large part of the Non-Sponsored racers are also using hitec 225s.
They are battle tested.

Yup me too, love my bag of little Hitec's. I also prefer the plastic gear 225's for all but the throttle. Crash stripped gears are very cheap to replace and I can do those in my sleep now.
However with the eighty series on the throttle I,ve never successfully replaced those gears so I tend also to use HS-85 there.

Hey Guys,
Where can I find HS-85 Servo?
I've looked everywhere for them and could not find one. I've been using the HS-81 and it work great, but I want to try HS-85 as well.

I had thought about the 225's. I've been using them on some of my funfly planes. Very fast and strong on 5 cell packs. I am not real impressed with their centering but with the small control surfaces of a quickie, it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for the reinforcement.

Ditto on all of the positive Hitec comments.
I use Hitec servos exclusively on my Quickies and Q40's. I have standardized on the following config:
HS-225BB
Quickie (Webra Q engine) ailerons
Q40 elevator and ailerons
HS-85BB
Quickie (Webra Q engine) one on each V-tail elevator and shut off
Q40 rudder and shut off
The HS-85 has a ball bearing where the HS-81 does not.
With this strategy, I only have to stock two types of servos for all my racers. Can easily swap servos in and out as needed. All with nylon gears. Excellent service, fast and cheap ($0.00)
Another good source is Servo City
Very good prices and free shipping in many cases.

I once tried HS-85's at 42/49 on everything but that turned out to be a bad idea due to the two screw mount arrangement causing excessive servo rocking, particularly on ailerons.
