RE: Extreme Flight 87" Yak 54 - Build & Fly
Question for repacking the Yak after finished building the plane?
Can you dissasemble the whole plane, taking engine, cowl, landing gears tail wheel out, and put it back into the box which came with the plane? Because I would like to ship it out of town during the summer.
Thank you.

You're rudder will preclude that unless you design a removable hinging system.

RE: Extreme Flight 87" Yak 54 - Build & Fly
DA runs every engine before they sell it! they set the neddles, check the idle and check rpms! I know very well Dave (the owner) and Joaquin ( Joaquin its the person that runs and sets every engine)
they both tell me that there is no need to use diferent props to break in and after! you guys can just install the prop you plan to use!
the only recomendation they give me is to use Lawnboy oil for 3-4 galons of fuel! ( NO MORE ) becouse that oil leaves a coat on the piston and you don't want that coat to be to wide!
after 3-4 galons of Lawnboy you switch to synthetic oil! they recomend AMS oil 100/1 mix
besides that there is not a special treatment! just fly and enjoy!!!

I know for a fact that Porsche bench runs every engine before it's installed in a chassis...
We always used to break-in race engines on the dyno using 10W-20 petroleum based oil to seat the rings and bearings...

Maudib,
So the fuse is inside the bag without the rudder in the shipping box. With Rudder installed, it won't fit in the box lengthwise and widthwise. Is that right?
Is there an easy way with a removeable rudder hinges?
Thanks.

Correct... the rudder is not attached to the fuse.. the bag is curled around a bit.
Some guys have used Klett hinges and removed the stock pins and replaced with a long piano wire... bent at top and bottom.. you straigten out one end and pull it out. I never cared for it personally... the piano wires always seem to rust and become abrasive to the hinges...
It's possible you could do the same with the robarts... and it may be possible to find cotter pins to fit the hinges too (or whatever those split pins are called that you bend so that can't come back through the hole) And you could keep extra on hand...
I suppose there is always a way when there's a will... and enough benefit...
If you weren't going to ship it often, you might want to build a special crate for it and ship it "field stripped" in other words fully assembled wings & stabs removed.

Hey CHris...
I just picked me up a Mini Funtana at my LHS... with as skilled and lightweight manufacturing as you offer... you REALLY need to make a small electric version like they did with the mini-funtana... say around 38" and about 25 oz... You'd sell a boatload (no pun intended guys)
Uh... let me be the FIRST to say I want on that list....

Speaking of bags, have any of you had any trouble with the wing bags? Mine are very tight, in fact it appears they made them the exact length after they built the wings, but with no aileron linkage in place so with the extra height of those long composite arms, thats enough difference where the flap will just barely close enough to grab the velcro.

Now that sounds like a winner. Keeps me from adding it to my "to do" list. Would be great with an aXI 2808/24 stuck in the nose and about a 44"-46" wingspan. Keep it around 20-25 oz w/ li-po. Sweet.

Go with the New electric motor from Extreme Flight.
All different sizes.
