The one cam I tried that had the line on it would not time correctly on my 45. With the alignment tool in the camshaft oiling hole the cam box could not be installed with the crank pin at tdc. The crank pin would end up slightly off to the left or right from tdc but never straight up.

Sorry, I meant a set of valves.

To complete the third 45 I need a set of rocker covers as well. Doesn't have to be the old sandblasted style, can be the new shiny chrome ones that came on the 56 or 62.

I see that head those early blue rocker cover gaskets. They require some serious delicate surgery to remove. Nice to see you fixing Glowy up. Gary fixed me up with rocker covers for the Psychobillie 82.

Crunchy IS awesome!

I have a special tool for scraping out pesky rocker cover gaskets; a small Snap-on screwdriver held vertically. Perfect fit and works fast without gouging.

The same screwdriver has a magnet in the handle which I once used to remove and install the valves. I thought about that and decided that magnetizing the valves is probably not a good thing to do!

If the piston was steel that would make for interesting running.
I have a telescoping thing with a strong magnet on the end, it can find things that my eyes can't. And with two numb finger tops I lose stuff on occasion.

The heat and impact of running will demagnetize the valve anyhow.

I have a Saito 45 special and recently picked up a std fa-45 which needs a clean up before a run. It also has a pronounced tick over. Valve adjustment maybe?

On the special, the carb is improved and the intake tube is a larger diameter. So the cam is different? I thought the valves may be larger on the special as well but I could be wrong.

In addition to the higher lift cam the 45S has longer tappets, shorter pushrods & pushrod covers, a different cam gear housing as well as a different back plate to accommodate the larger newer syle carby. The intake manifold may be different as well. All other parts are the same.

Note: In the picture of the two camshafts above it is evident by counting the number of teeth from the timing mark to the lobe centerlines that the 45 has not only less lift than the 45S but also has a wider lobe separation. I haven't degreed the two cams to determine whether or not the cam timing has been advanced on the 45S vs. the 45 but I suspect it has.
