Lonnie, I am going to get back into the 1.15 tomorrow, keep the info coming on the 45-s, good stuff.

Lonnie, take note of the two 45's above, I have an odd cam housing with the pin lower in the housing. It appears that the older 45 may have that cam housing. It might splain some of the different length components.

I think I have that reversed, the higher up pin is the older especially note the sides of the housing.

I have never seen a 45 MKI or MKII with those tall lifter bores. I've only seen them on a 45S and up.

I am not sure, it was just here in a box of stuff I was given. When I removed the pump from the 1.30 I installed that cam box and to my surprise the gears did not mesh. I'll see if I still have it. That older 45 cam is sure mellow looking.

Gave those dimensions and noted the differences about a month ago.

LOL

Back when I sent Lonnie the parts pile.

Differences in the roof of the cam box too.

Well here are 4 generations of 40s noticed the head change then the carb change and then the physical size change. Can’t really show the cam change other then the pic earlier

the cam housings all measure the same from base to top of cam housing the biggest difference is is the pin location in the housing

Gary, I remember you pointing out the difference in cam pin centerlines. What size engine were those cam housings for?

Crunchy, I stand corrected. Those later model 40's had the taller tappets and tappet bores too I see.

Ok ok
out side of the housing are the same
but the inside roof is taller by .00010. On the newer housing.

that fact that someone just changed the cam in a old 45 to make a 45 special is a little far fetched. He would have had to change the housing and more.
glad I finally got off my butt to actually Measure this stuff myself. so much gets lost in this thread and so much info fly’s around I can’t keep up with it all.

Also the earlier 40-45 had a two price head. Witch makes the head even taller

All that's required to fit a 50 cam in a 45 cam housing is to grind off the the brass tappet guides on the inside of the 45 cam housing, that's not a problem. It's the "and more" part that'll getcha.

Yep, the MKI 40 and 45 has a two piece head and the intake manifold enters more on the side of the head than at the rear..

Really?

So there are only two types?
I saw a difference with the internal length of the tappet guide.

Nevermind, you have it all figured out

Okey that could be a disaster wallet wise for lonnie, what if she falls instantly in love with your pink plane and just has to fly it with all pink accessories like a 2000 dollar pink JR tx and flight box? not countin a whole new pink outfit for her with matching shoes, THINK MAN!

ps gary captain crunch did say he was getting swamped with info and kinda lost track of things, could you paste your previous post above your latest comments.

I'll text her a pic of pinky-poo when you're finished. Doubtful she'll change her mind though, she's such a girly-girl.

Pete, true, she would want the whole ensemble!

This is my Saito 45 with the cam and other parts from a Saito 50 upgrade. On a 11X6 it picked up about 350 RPM on my 3% nitro home brew fuel. In the original form the Saito 45 was never happy with a 12X5 prop. With the upgrade it has run gallons of fuel through it with a 12X5 prop that it is very happy with. It still uses the original 45 carb.
Pete
