hey guys what you have for dinner last night? I had toes and feet.
so last night the 2 grand babies stayed overnight. the 3y.o. started acting ruff and tough with me, so I grabbed her and started fake fighting and she said she wanted to get down. so I held her like a baby and I said "poor baby wants to get down:" she was instantly loving it. so I put my hand on her belly and started rubbing it real fast and she was back to fake fighting again. well she rolled over so her feet were up by my face "no socks". so I said "os you want me to eat your feet" and I was portending to eat her toes. then I would stop and tell her that I was getting sick and I would fake choking and coughing and she would laugh so hard, I did it over, I would stop and tell her that her feet tasted bad-bad-bad and said I was getting sick, I would fake coughing and choaking and wipe my mouth. my god she was laughing so hard. I did that 4 times and stopped. yes, you know she told me "Popa do it again" LOL.. and I did. boy did she laugh hard! it was great time!

now for some Saito News. I picked up my 91 and O-no I got oil from the front bearing. I sure hope this doesn't leak when it's running! maybe just too much oil (ATF)

I have yet to see a sealed front bearing that would stand up to having ARO pumped into the crankcase. And if you stand your plane on it's nose the ARO will leak through eventually. They behave when running though.

Early on I popped out rubber bearing seals injecting ARO with too much force. I learned to turn the prop 180° past tdc on the compression stroke. That puts the piston at bdc of the exhaust stroke before injecting ARO, eliminating the possibility of creating case pressure.

I have a 72 that spews oil from the front bearing while running. Tried new bearings to no avail. Compression is ok but I need to look at the ring gap. It may be excessive.

I just open the rear cover vent and introduce oil at the front vent. No extreme pressures involved.

Those bearing seals are not perfect pressure seals, oil can get past them at minimal pressures.

Not a defect.

all I can say is that in the 20 years I have had glow engines I only had one 2st that leaked oil from it's front bearing, I guess I have to say I have been lucky.
that engine was that 61fx and the bearing was replacement OS part NTN

No sir, not a defect, just not one of those things many brains think it is. I never worried about it.

Saitos shouldn't spew oil from a sealed front bearing while running. If the engine is broke in (leaned) and the case vent is clear but it's soaking the prop, spinner, engine, muffler and firewall with oil in 10 minutes of run time then something IS defective. I don't worry about things, I fix them.

That sounds extreme!
A little seepage is expected and normal, even with just shielded bearings. Nothing to "fix" or fret over.
What you describe, YIKES!

Lonnie, you should have received a little goodie box yesterday, a collaborative effort on the part of Gary and I, although he didn't know it.

Yes, thanks to you both. Got it out of the mailbox about an hour ago, slapped the cam, pin and one tappet into the 180GK and fired it up.

I'm very happy too. The original 180GK cam had a loose lobe which in turn grooved out the tappet face straight across the middle. Amazing how fast that happened really, the engine burned less than 2 gallons of fuel. The engine is running great now, turning a Xoar 17x8 at 8250 peak on 15% nitro. It's destined to mount on my Sig 1/4 Cub, out with the SPE26 2 stroke and in with some luscious notes. Gassified of course......I hope that doesn't steal your joy away.

Good on ya. My joy is knowing another one is running. The fuel is your informed choice.

Should be near enough power for a 3D Cub.
My last Sig Clipped Wing had an OS Gemini 160
Ran great, plenty of power to spare. I never learned to appreciate the two-stroke-like sound.
Buzzy boxers are a turn-off!

That's what it's all about

Gary had sent me a bunch of Saito 45 parts. More than a few of those parts went to a deserving individual. Speaking of which, we haven't heard from Pedro in a while.

I talked with Pedro a few weeks ago. He is well, but very busy.

Probably will have more to say when he returns.

Default Another Rear Rotor

An HP .61 Rear Rotor ABC just appeared !

How about it? Worth the postage to OZ?

Appears un-run, like new. Well preserved too.

Yow!

You do see it is not in an airplane

It was in a beautiful 86 inch Rearwin Speedster.
That plane is now sporting a Saito FG14C , converted to proper methanol fuel

I don't ask money for these, because I know what they are worth!
Only useful to guys in MinnieSoda who "fly" them on cars and boats.

I agree with Jesse at no time did Gary say he would fly with it. I suspect he will sell it or trade it for a Saito to an unsuspecting guy who doesn't know what he has!

Happy Christmas down there, I hope it isn't too hot and the Emu stays cold!
