RE: Moki 180/Glow engine
O.K I DONT WANT TO GET INTO THE WHOLE PLUGING ONE OUTLET ON THE MUFFLER DEBATE BUT ITS WORHT A TRY IF ALL ELSE FAILS . MY 180 RAN FINE AS STANDARD BUT THAT WAS ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO. JUST MAKE SHRE THERE IS PLETY OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. LEAVE THE PLUG DRIVER ON AND GOT TO FULL THROTLE. IF ITS RICH IT WILL RUN BADLY BUT WITH PLENTY OF SMOKE. START WINDING THE HIGH END IN FROM THERE .

2-3 turns depending on your setup. What muffler is it? If it's a pitts try blocking one of the stacks. You may have a fuel draw issue. If it's a fuel draw issue it won't richen up, that could be your problem. Do you have a pump or regulator? Or just use muffler pressure? How far is the tank from the engine? How high is the top of the tank with respect to the carb fuel inlet?

Do you know how many turns out from closed one should start with?

RE: Moki 180/Glow engine
Line up your mixture disc to point at the line on the carb for your low speed as stated before. (You are running a tank pressure line from your muffler, right?)If you are unable to get "fat" (rich setting), perhaps your tank clunk and/or fuel lines are likely too small. With an engine this big, you may need large fuel lines instead of the standard medium size. You should be able to get it to run fine on bench/ground without plugging a muffler outlet pipe. Several people have problems keeping enough tank pressure on long up lines (hovering, etc) unless they run a pump or plug one of the outlet pipes to increase pressure, but you should still be able to get it to run fine on the ground just by running stock pitts muffler and no pump. Look at your fuel lines. How far out have you backed out the HS needle while it is running (turns from closed)?

RE: Moki 180/Glow engine
It would be much better/cheaper if you got it running right before putting a pump or regulator on it. I would like to know how far the tank is from the engine and are you using a pitts muffler? If you are convinced that the lines are big enough and that it's not a muffler pressure problem, you could put a Cline regulator on it. But if you have other problems like debris in your engine, the Cline will not solve anything. Some people use Perry pumps but there are more problems reported with the Perry if you do a search on it. The Cline has very few problems if installed correctly. There's no adjustments. I have a Moki 1.80 with the Perry VP30 and a Moki 2.10 with the Cline. The Cline works way better.
Another really good plug that is recommended by the Moki importer in the US is the K&B 1L glow plug. It's not usually in hobby stores but it can be ordered. They are under $3 US each. They work great, it's all I use on my Moki's.

RE: Moki 180/Glow engine
It is mounted only about 3ins behind the motor. I am using medium fule line. I will swicth to large. I use a bisson pits muffler and will try plugging one of the outlets. I am using an os L plug but will try switching to a K&B 1L.
Thanks,
Any other suggestions?

On line you can order them from K&B www.modelengine.com
I wouldn't pinch off your exhaust yet if you ever intend to use a pump eventually. It should run fine on bench with stock pitts exhaust enough for you to dial in carb. Only pinch off a tube if you are not going to bother with a pump later when you fly. Otherwise, you are restricting your power potential. Pump or pinched exhaust, not both.

Here's a link to the glow plugs. It comes at $3.90 for 1 or $2.90 each for a sheet of 12.
You will be surprised how much better it runs with one exhaust stack plugged. The type F glow plug works great they just seem to not last that long for me. The 1L is the perfect heat range on 0% nitro.

RE: Moki 180/Glow engine
I have 3 of the Moki 180's and they all run the same. 2 turns out on the high end, K&B 1L plug, 0 % nitro with about 18% oil.
I have the Cline regulator on all of them. I agree the Cline is a little costly but in the cost of the whole airplane the Cline is not an issue. I scratch build and it takes a long time to finish one, so the Cline gives me a great running motor.
But your problem doesn't sound like the Cline will help you. I mount my tanks on the CG. Your tank is so close that your motor should run fine.

You are too lean.I have a 180 and three 210s.Great motors.Get someone to hold the motor vertical then richen till it starts to sag[lose rpm's].there is a notch on the barrel of the idle adjustment and on the top of the casting. That is where the idle should be,maybe a little [1/16 th inch].
