Default Servo voltage

I'm just wondering what the max actual voltage a 5955 and a 5625 servo can take. I've been looking at differant battery systems < A123 , or Lipo> and was wondering if the servo's can handle the two cell voltage or should I be thinking regulator?

Recommend use of a good regulator, please refer to previous answers

Servo - Operating Voltage Range - usuage with Lipol & A123 batteries.

Thanks Alan. I just hear people saying they're running batteries with no regulators and I just don't need to smoke anything.

I don't mean to barge in on the Hitec support forum, but Mike Mayberry posted on another forum about the new 7XXX series being cleared for unregulated Li-Po/Li-Ion use.

I and many others run the Hitecs on A123 systems which don't put out anymore voltage than a freshly charged five cell NiMH/NiCD packs.

Alan; could you please verify your answer is Hitec's most current position?

Answers to similar questions by Mike Mayberry on other group:
"Hitec strongly suggests you do not use more than 6.75v to power our servos - Mike". and earlier on this NG :
"So far there have been no reported issues using the A123 batteries without a regulator with our digital servos. - Mike."
Whilst agreeing with Mike, Hitec RCD servo specifications, even for 7XXX series servos, other than for specific Robotics servos, state voltage range 4.8v - 6.0v. e.g. :
HS-7955TG Specifications
HS-7965TG Specifications
HS-7985TG Specifications
Whilst servos may work at voltages above 6.0v. user must be aware that the higher voltage, the higher the heat generated which leads to exponentially reduced life expectancy of the servo by early burn out of board, motor and worn gear train.
Your comment "I and many others run the Hitecs on A123 systems which don't put out anymore voltage than a freshly charged five cell NiMH/NiCD packs" is acknowledged, but be aware that as reported by others on the NGs "Many cell with 123 in their name are in fact nominal voltage of 3.6 / 3.7 and charge to 4.1 / 4.2volts per cell". [FWIW the simplest voltage dropper when using say a 6v SLA (GellCell) is as advocated on the Yacht & Boat newsgroups 2 X IN4001 diodes, each of which create a .6 volt drop putting you well within voltage parameters whilst allowing a 4A current.]

Well I'm not sure how I can get you a way to find this thread as the RCU server will strip out any links to this forum....

It's on FG in the "Transmitters, receivers, servos & Navigation" section of the forums. The thread title is "NEW!!! Hitec 7955's" and it is post number #297 in that thread.

Here is the quote:

"FYI: We just received the results of our long term testing on the 7955TG with 2S Lipo, and I'm pleased to say that we have found no degradation in the servos life expectancy at this voltage. Therefore Hitec will officially announce soon that the 7955TG's are HV capable with the following specs: .13sec @ 375in/oz at 7.4v!

"Me too" servo? I think not!

While we have yet to market this feature, let me say that the use of 2S Lithium is not recommended for anything but the 7955TG at this time. We will have more info in the near future on this subject.

What about the 5955? Which in many perspectives is identical to 7955.

People have used the 5955TG on 2S Lipo but it is not recommended. THe 7955 uses a different motor and can handle it better.

Mike.
