I used the oven cleaner called 'Easy Off Oven and Grill Cleaner Aerosol'
you spray it on the part, (i put the parts in a tupperwhere bowl), and let it sit for about 2-3 min and then rinse the part with water and get an SOS pad and scrub the remaining purple off (this also shines it up some)

To polish it up: Sand with 2000 grit sand paper and polish with a dremel tool with a polishing head on it. You can use polish car polish with it and it will shine right up. My plan for it is to coat it with a Medium gray and bake it on. I should have it done by Christmas hehe!!!

I sanded the outside with 400 grit wet paper. Inside was painted black. I was going for a flat black finish, but it came out looking more like old faded paint, which is still pretty cool. I think using something like 1200 or 1500 grit would be better.
