hay guys.
I just tried to start my K4.6 engine.
first time i ever tried to start it, first i heated it with a hair dryer. than i primed it.
tried to start it and it wouldn't start....checked to see if any fuel going to the carb,
yep there was.
than I unscrew the plug and turn the engine over, and all the fuel came out. so I
guessed it was flooded.
than I heated it up again with the hair dryer and tried to start it again. but after about
the 5 pull it locked up again. So i unscrewed the glow plug and tried to pull the pull-start
but it wouldn't turn and no fuel was on the top of the piston...so I tool the cooling head of
and tried to turn it, but still no luck. Than i took the pull start of and the back plate of,
there was a bit of fuel in the crank but not much.
I than tried to turn it over with the fly wheel.....But it just wont turn over, and i don't
want to brake anything...
Do you guys know whats wrong???
Thanks

u have probably heated it up with the hair dryer so much that wen u have pulled the pull starter the piston has gone to the top of the stroke and then the engine has cooled down on the piston causing the piston to get stuk, try to put some ARO down ther and see if it will budge, IDK just a thought, hope it helps a bit, Nathan

Make sure your plug is good. Take it out and put it into your glow driver to see if the glow plug lights up to a nice bright yellow.
Yeah, try to heat up the engine again with the hair dryer. Put in lots of afterrun oil. Then, pull the starter to turn the piston back down. If that does not work, take a flat head screwdriver and with the flathead, slip it under the flywheel and the engine mount plate, grab one of the serrated edges along the flywheel with the flathead, and turn the flywheel to bring the piston back down. The K4.6 is a real beeyatch when it is new.
If you have a roto-start and roto backplate for K4.6, dismount the engine and switch the pull for the roto. Then, reinstall the engine and continue with the break-in. You will spare yourself arm cramps. Trust me, when breaking in any nitro engine, be prepared to start your engine often. The engine has to run quite rich and tuning it to keep it running but still remaning very rich for break-in can be a pain in the @$$.

Nope still nothing...I filled the crank up with ARO and heated it with a hair drier, but still nothing.
I am really stuck on whats wrong...
I am really peed off because, the man I bought the truck off said that I could either use my own
engine or use the one that i have now. I was going to use my own but the guy said that there really
"reliable" and easy to tune also I had the choice of getting a roto start, But no the guy said there really
easy to start and will start on the second pull.....Well i guess i learnt my lesson. And that's to go with your
choice and not with other peoples...Sorry I just had to vent
Well I am stuck.
Thanks for your help.
hay and Nathan, I have raced once or twice at Burswood but now i race a Rockingham RC club.

first get all that **** out the crank case, pull the glow pug and drain it by tipping it upside down then give it a few pulls. put the GOOD glow plug back in and put your finger over the stinger and pull 3 or 4 times till you see fuel reaching the carb threw the line., or you can pull the line from the top of your pipe and gently blow till you see the fuel reach the carb, you dont want to over do these things as you will flood the engine like youve been. then put on the CHARGED glow lighter and pull, if it locks up then loosen the plug but only like one turn, that will relieve pressure and should start, then you can snug it up after shes running.

OK thanks Gravrober.
But i think your missing a point, because it's not hydro locked because I took the glow plug
out and the cooling head off. Than i tried but still wouldn't turn. so than i took the back plate
of and tried to turn it but it still didn't turn
so even if i take all the "****" out of the crank case and tip it upside down, It isn't going to move.
Just thinking out-loud, I think the piston might be somehow jammed in the exhaust port of another
port. Because it aint going to move...
Thanks again

wup my bad.
If something is internally mechanically wrong then send it back to HPI and they will send you a brand new one. either way I'd do a compete tear down.

i didnt see if you said if it was a new engine or not, anyway to be safe you can always start it with the glow plug just a tad bit loose so you cant cause any damage if you accidently flood it. i always preheat my engine with a mini torch or a heat gun. i think it saves alot of wear and tear on the starter pull, or roto. and it usually fires in a split second. and i havent changed a glow plug since i started really doing a good job preheating. just an idea.

The dog- Yes it's a new engine and the first time i tried to start it... And i preheated it with a hair dryer and loosened the glow.....
harawong, There's two RC tracks in rockingham, There really close together... One of them is where the softball club is.
But it's only electric and it rather small...
And the nitro, well it's not that good. But it's getting better, It's more of a social club than anything. But they do a have a few races
here and there. But that's where are the people go

finally dude u got it!! is there any damage on the sleeve or piston that u can see? I wouldnt of said that forcing it would of been that good but if it gets the job done then its all good. When u gonna fire it up? Make sure u loosen the plug and only allow a tad of fuel into the chamber like i said last night and u should be cooking with gas. Hope it works out lol u deserve it after all the drama.

It's really killing me mate....
Already, I have all these cuts and blisters on my hand...
But i really want to get her started. Ill most likely start her after school.
No i don't think there's any damage.
I think the main resion it jammed is because when there new the top of
the sleeve is really tight. So maby i let it cool done to quick then it got stuck...

maybe u should try spending a good 5 mins with the hair dryer on the motor then quickly try and start it, thats what i did with my new engine, Just a though, Nathan

Keep the piston at bottom dead center during cool down. I put a paint mark on the flywheel and always put it at BDC when I shut down, still even after run in.

I've never heard of a K4.6 giving so much problem from being stuck at TDC, even brand new ones.
Is this a totally new K4.6 or is it one that had the piston and sleeved pinched? Picnching has the tendency to tighten the sleeve too much.

nope it is a brand new engine never seen fuel since yesterday. When he had all the dramas. Would it be possible to stretch the con rod when he used the Screw driver treatment cause of all the force exerted on the rod? And seeing it is brand new it would be worse right?
