Clamps are all off and I can breathe a little better knowing it came out as I had hoped... I will post more photos later this evening.

Another example of your exacting work there.
Question. Since there isn't a flat center wing section do each of the fuselage sides where you sanded the wing saddle have an angle from inside to outside to accommodate the dihedral? Or is there another approach to fitting the wing to the fuselage?

Thanks David and Tim.
Tim the fuse sides were sanded straight across in the jig that I madeand that does not accomodate for the angle of the dihedral in the wing. I haven't tried yet, but my guess is if Iduplicated the shape of the wing and wing saddle cut out accurately there won't be very much of a gap.One could adjustthe angle between the wing and fuse by carefully sanding until both surfacesare parallel to each other ( easier said than done ), but in this case a wing fillet willfill in any irregularities and make a nice tight fit. I will however check and adjust the angle ofwing incidence before and after I make the fillet. I hope I answered your question.
Tim check out this link and it also will shed some light on making tight fitting wing saddles. http://airfieldmodels.com/informatio...dles/index.htm
Earlier this afternoon I placed my order for a cowl from Fiberglass Specialties.http://www.fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com/ Should arrive in a few days...

Concentrated tonight on the center wing section. You can see how I added support to the centerwhere the wing halves meet, this is for the sheeting to have something to be gluedto. Fitted the landing gear mounts, they are now ready to be epoxied in place. I also decided at the last moment to add an additional hardwood block that will anchor an additiional steel brace that will help prevent the landing gear wire frommoving back(Theseare not yet visable).

With such clean and crisp work it almost seem's wrong to cover it.

Thanks Patrick. One of these days I will do just that cover with a transparent film to help celebrate the joinery underneath! Would probably be a bear to see in the air though....I appriciate all the kind words so many of you offered, it really keeps me motivated and going!

Sheeting for me goes painfully slow so you will have to bear with me. I was only able to fit two pieces in tonight. You can also see the blocking that will support the landing gear wire. The blocks are not epoxied in as of yet, in fact each block will be moved inwards slightly, centered on theadjacent rib. If I do this right the additional wire bracing will all be hidden under the gear fairings.
On another note, work is taking me on a two day training seminar soI won't be posting anthing tomorrow night... sorry guys. On the way home I will be stopping by the LHS to pick-up some supplies I need to complete the wing. Can't post pics- 500 server error message again!
I tried posting the pics again this mornimg and I'm still getting the Error message. Anyone else having problems? Need to leave for my training seminar so I'll try when I return on Friday...

Well I'm home! Got right to work on getting the landing gear mounts sorted out. I thought it would be better to drill the holes for the 3/16" landing gear wire first. Upon close inspection I noticed that the end of the wire is not at a 90 degree angle, so I replicated the angle by hand so it could be inserted without any binding. If done right as the wire is inserted into its hole the space between the wire and the mounting block should stay equal. In order for the wire to fully seat I used my Dremel tool with the bit shown to ease the inside edge. Worked well...Once I was satisfied with the fit of everything I epoxied everything into place.

RE: Sig Ryan STA
Curious VJ, could you not have straightened that out in the vice? Doesn't seem like it would've taken much.
Looking good by the way! Good craftsmanship!
EDIT: Change that to "Looking awesome!!!"

RE: Sig Ryan STA
Looking Good VJ,
I received my plastic model yesterday and also got a quote back from the local company that does 3D scanning. I was hoping to get it scanned into a 3D file to import into CAD. They want $600 just to do the scan[&o] I told them thanks but no thanks as that was 1/2 of my yearly hobby budget(at least as the wife knows ) Looks like I will have to draw it up in CAD the hard way.
Later!!

Don't blame you Anthony, 600 dollars is a lot of money just for scanning the model! How are the reapirs on the Waco going?
I spent most of the day raking leaves and prepairing for the big "blow" that's coming this way. I hopethose of you in the path of Sandy comeout OK. Got in the workshop a couple of hours ago so this is what I've accomplished so far. You can see that the mounts for the diagonal bracing have been epoxied.I tooka photo of how the brace once made and installed will support the landing gear from moving rearwards. I have started the final push to close in the center section, but not before I ran the aileron and flap servo wires first!

I am waiting on the replacement parts from AMR. They are cutting everything I need and supplying a new cowl. I need to finish stripping the wings but just can't seem to get motivated. Maybe when the parts arrive it will light a fire under my butt. I have decided to go with a dope finish this time around and actually stitching the fabric to the ribs. I will be using Polyfiber-lite fabric and tapes.

Hope you start a thread on Crash and Rebuild Anthony,it sounds like it would be a very interesting repair.
With the storm setting her sites on the east coast we are all busygetting ready forthe possibility of no power- gasp- nointernet-NOPOSTS AHHHHHH.
Managed to get the restof the center section sheeted. This may be an "oldschool " type wing, but it sure is strong! Glad to be finishing up the wing and to move onto something else.

Hope you don't get hammered to bad by the storm. I lost power for 6 days from Huricane Ike. It blew all the way up into Ohio with 70+mph winds and broke off several of my trees and severly damaged my roof. At least I got a new roof out of the deal.
I will most likely post the rebuild in my original Waco thread. I will let you know when I start posting. It will be a long rebuild.
I did assemble my 1/48 scale Ryan PT-20 this weekend. Broke out the airbrush and painted it up in military colors. The kit was missing both windshiels and a exhaust stack. I sent an e-mail off to Testors hopefully they mail me the missing parts.

Starting to blow pretty hard here in Pa and they are talking 70+ mph today. I work for Home Depot distribution and we are out of generators now. It's amazing to see how ugly people get when these things happen, those who have a generator for sale are asking double what they are worth and people are fighting in line over stuff. Makes you wonder what it will be like when a major disaster of biblical proportions happens. VJ your contruction is excellent and I look forward to your continued work, when this big blow is done. Stay safe all.

You're right raptureboy, I have seen the same here. It's a little after 9 AM and it's raining not hard but steady. Winds are starting to pick-up here as well. Wind is never blowing in the same direction... Thought I would get some pictures in now as who knows if I will be able to later.
Most of the wing has been sheeted. I finished opening up all the holes/slots for the landing gear and bracing. Next I will glue on the leading edge and get that shaped this morning. Still have some sheeting to do on the wing tips, but it's near done. I am happy to report that the wing is straight and true...
Here's wishing all involved that you may be safe during this storm and not lose power.

Those pics are beautiful. Makes mewant to build one just to put on display uncovered! I'm at work now fielding calls from our NYC and LI stores, all our drivers are coming in now because they have to be off the road by 11am per the state. I hope I can get home before it get's real bad, it's 20 mi to home and the last 5 are on tree lined roads
