3/32" balsa sheeting is used to cover the wing. Some builders like to make their skins first, then glue to the ribs in one large sheet. I however, prefer to sheet my wings one plank at a time.

Last bit to cover.

Right (top) wing completed. Time to start building the left wing panel...

Looks like the bottom needs sheeted? Looks very good. How do you plan to finish the wings? I have 30% plans from Windal Hostetler that I may build some day, always liked the Beech, I had a Sig Bonanza back in the day, .60 Como engine, Carl Goldberg retracts, painted white and blue.

That's a big bird Tony... You are correct, the bottom hasn't been sheeted as of yet. I'll build the left wing panel next getting to the same point of construction as the right panel before I flip them both over and install the rest of the wood bits and retracts. The center section also has to be built so the wing halves can be joined together before I finish the bottom sheeting.

And most importantly its a left wing and not a right wing!

I almost did it once myself but I caught my mistake the last minute before applying the glue.

Sometimes you just have to be a bit creative with you're blocks and clamping methods. It's important to keep everything in its proper orientation...

I like your clamping idea for the leading edge. I usually use painter's tape but you idea is better.

Thanks Mike. It keeps the leading edge straight and prevents crushing the edge of the balsa with clamps.

We have purchased a DLE-20RA for it. I know fitting the engine and exhaust will be a challenge... I dislike the mess that glow engines leave, not to mention the price of fuel!

Vincent, I love those old oily glow engines as the power that they produce is amazing to me.My rule is that if it wont fit in the back of my ford escape I have no use for them. I also don't have the storage space in my shop for them. I like your progress I am seeing here please keep sharing. I have one of those small hand planers that I see in your pictures. I can not get it adjusted right to use as the blade will not detracted inward so I can use it. There where no instructions with it and where I bought doesnt even have replacement blades for it.Thank You

There isn't any question that pound for pound, the power a glow engine makes, exceeds that of a gas engine. I just don't like the oily mess that it makes. The smell of nitro engines brings back fond memories for me as a young buck trying his hand at building and flying...

Small delay on the wing as I ran out of rocket tubes! Bob is picking them up in a day or two, so work should resume shortly.

My small block plane is by far the best I have ever used. Here are the instructions that mine came with...

Bob was kind enough to pick me up some supplies that I needed to continue. The rocket tubes are all now in place and epoxied into position.

I think I mentioned before how I join the tubes together.

The rocket tubes are a little over 1/2" in diameter, .540" to be exact. These are the correct size heat shrink tubing that will work.

Vince, I would love to own one of those block planes and its well worth the money for me. But as usual the budget for mikon Desco is flat in other words I dont have enough cash right now. But in the future I will aquire one of these bad boys. Thank you! Michael Johnston

Out of curiosity, I looked up the violin makers block plane by that manufacturer.

Cute-looking little tool.
