I just started the wing servo mounts tonite. They are about 85% complete. I'll post photos as soon as they are finished!

Have a Happy Thankgiving!!

I think I hold the record for the slowest build of a Venture 60. I started approximately one year ago this very week! I hate to admit it but I'm still not done. I have done a few mods along the way that I have allowed to slow me down. I have limited time to work on it and since starting I have built a couple ARFs and am currently building a workshop to do all my building in. I have promised myself that I won't start another plane until my Venture is done!

Mods:
Dual aileron servos
Clipped wing one bay
Added one inch to rudder
Creating a cowl for the nose (this has slowed me down more than anything else - I can't make up my mind what way I want to do it)
Sullivan tail wheel
Sheeted the turtle deck
Lengthened the turtle deck slightly to move the canopy forward and shorten the nose a bit

For anyone reading this don't think this plane takes a long time to build. My wing framed up in only a couple of nights work. Fuse went together pretty quick as well. Going slow doesn't bother me too much since I know it will be a sweet plane when it is finally done.

The wing servos are in!

Working on the Fuel Tank hatch. I had one done, but did not like it. Didn't seem sturdy enough. If anyone has suggestions on the construction of one, I'd appriciate it.

Going to do some more sanding tonite.

Well i finished the aft end of the fuselage and the fuel Tank Hatch. It turned out alright. Made the horn hole in the rudder and elevatora nd aligned then. Next is to fine sand and slot the control surfaces. Then..........

Cover!!!

Oh Boy!!

The servo platform in the fuselage only needs one placement for a servo due to I am mounting the rudder and elevator servos aft. The receiver and battery will be secured to this "platform" I wont permentantly secure it until I do a CG test..

Can you tell from the photos which colors I am going with? Also going to add some white!

Hi Great plane,I like the idea of servos in the rear for rudder and elv. What about the plane being tail heavy now?Have you had a problem with that ?I am getting ready to start a Venture and like your ideasI am putting a list of ideas I want to work into mine before I start, but we all know the best ones come when we are half way thru the build. ctdave

I really wont know any problems with it being tail heavy until I am close to finish. I got the idea off of another Venture 60 builder and he reports no CG problems. I am placing a Super Tigre 61 ABC in it, so the extra weight in the tail can help.

I am in the process of hinging the control surfaces now. Soon the covering will start. I am modifying the airelons now due to I removed a bay from each wing.

I have made a "floating" deck which supports my throttle servo, receiver, and battery. This can be shifted up to 4 inches to help in weight distribution.

Well, I got it all together with no skin. Covering is next. I have to do allitle bit more sanding and then I can cover it.

I use CA hinges. They are simple and work well for these types of planes. I used 4 pieces of 1/2" square balsa to "frame" the fuel tank hatch, then put in a piece of curved 3/16" balsa sheeting to top it. Sanded to fit.

I think I have some photos. Look at post #29 3rd photo.

The photo is of the tank frame. I intially carved it to close fit, then sanded it down.

Not much. I am going to do alittle sanding before I covered. My main thing is to come up with a nice color scheme. My colors are Sapphire Blue and Cub Yellow, just dont know how I am going to do it. Until I come up with a color pattern, the progress is going to be slow!

I am also changing the control rods in my 4 Star 40 to metal ones.

The maker of the Venture60, Bruce Tharpe Engineering (BTE) does not kit them anymore. He was going to ARF them but the deal fell through. Bruce is now working on some kind of turbine aircraft. He has said he may kit the Venture60 again soon. When? Only Bruce knows.

You may be able to pick one up already built or maybe someone has a kit they are not building.

Well, I joined the wings together tonite. Always a hairy procedure. It seems like it went well. I have to do a little filler job, then start on the fuselage.

Bruce does still make the kits, but has been on put on the back burner due to production of the Reaction 54 and Super Flying King. Last I heard is that he is now starting another run of the kits.

You're going to like this plane! I built mine a couple of years ago. Stuck the servos in the rear and a Saito .91 up front and had no balance problems. I also placed the aileron servos in the wings. Here's a pic of it.

Well I finally got to some covering. It took awhile for me to come up with a scheme. I figured it would be a nice scheme but I am part way done with it and I really dont like it. I guess I'll have to wait until it is totally finished. I just wish I was more artistic!

I have some insigna blue to put on the wings, but I haven't decided on a pattern yet. Someting close to the pattern on the tail.

Looking good, it's getting closer to the air everyday... What type of covering did you use?

Im using Monokote. I am actually getting better at the covering stuff. I just did an airelon the insignia blue color. Then I have to make a pattern scheme for the wing and the bottom. I still have to paint the engine compartment. ITs moving along.

Well I covered up the fuselage and attached the aerilons. I forgot to put in my ON/OFF switch! Whoooops!!

I put in the fuselase servo hatches after these pictures were taken. It is turning out OK, but a couple mistakes on the covering.
