makg,
Sure. Make a flat wing and do a lift comparison to the undercambered one. Or you could shim the rear of the wing and do an AOA study and its effects.
novielo,
Glad to hear you got one made up and working. Thats 1/2 the battle.
1/8" is small. A lt depends on the strength of the magnet. Neo's or Rare Earth ones are the best. The stronger the magnet the more efficient it is.
I've never loaded a vid here. Sorry

Hi all, I finally got my mono with jet motors flyable.
This was the last option before I yanked the carbon fiber rod out and stuck a traditional tube back in. The wing span is about 12.75" and in weighs in at 25.3g. I suppose this should have been the first wing configuration tried, but I've flown every other config I used successfully with bipe motors. I might play with the rear stabs some. But before finetuning can happen you have to get the thing to fly. Anyway here are a couple of pic's. BTW, I put some shrink tube on the tail boom for a shot of color. Tim

Aytron, thats an awsome vid!
Presenting the pico-38!
I maidened it today and it flies awsome! Its a real floater, It climbs on the lowest throttle. Its only drawback is its really sensetive to wind. Other than that, It a blast to fly!

^^^as you can see, the tail booms are made from plastic straws. The whole wing is two sets of bottom wings from my AA's. The center fuse is made from two layers of 1mm depron(foam plate) and the tail is one layer. I was going to mount the motors inside the straw because the fit perfectly, they didnt even need glue but i coulnt remove the motors without cutting the wires so i just mounted the on the trailing edge. I cant get any vid of it because i dont have a video camera[&o]

W.A.S.P.S-Flyer ,
the pico-38 looks pretty cool, i've always had a soft spot for those planes. nice job. if the wings are "disposable," you could trim them to more of the shape of the P-38 wings. it would increase your wing loading which would make it a bit faster, and able to take a little more wind.
i'm not sure about EPP, but i know some spray paints will eat foam. it should be fine though, i sprayed my F-27 and it didnt do anything. you could try on a test peice to make sure though.

Artyon,
That vid is a riot! I want a couple of those engines.
Novielo,
Still file not found error.
Ferndale,
Looks good. It does have a little dihedral since it uses a Bipe wing center. Glad its flying. Should make you a real nice enjoyable flyer.
W.A.S.P.S-Flyer,
Thats unique. Bet it has a ton of lift with the undercambered bipe wings. You should draw it up and submit it to the AA ToolBox www.aatoolbox.no-ip.org so others can build one.
It would look good in military colors............

That jet looks better everytime I see it. I take it since it running the N20's, its on the modded Rx?
I agree on the props. A good GWS prop could up the trust by as much 20%.
Mass produced props aren't the best. They are usually poorly balanced among other things.

and take the extra load no problem. No more worries and well worth it!
Found a block of building foam they use in construction and carved a canopy for
it. Sands easy and it's really light.
I'm going back to making some more props. They're not really that hard once you
get the hang of it. Just takes a little time.

Megabyte, I'm working on tail stabs. The plane will swoop into stalls really easy. I'm into my second round of cutdowns, but I'm going to get some depron plates. I'll run out of balsa quickly.
for all that are building off the AA bipe frame, CF rod is heavy and could screw up your plans.
Djstinger, can you post what you did to the tail of your mono/jet mod?
Tim

Neurotex,
Didn't you start a thread on making props? My models just keep getting smaller and the stock AA prop is getting heavy on mine. Besides, Less mass = more rpm!
If you get time and are the one that started it. Mind posting the link and posting some updated tips?
Ferndale,
Have you tried shimming the rear of the wing up abt 1/16" ? I had some similar problem like that and it fixed it by reducing the AoA.

Megabyte, I am now a micro solderer, Mosfet/resistor mod successfully completed on 2 rx's =).Mono/jet no.1 is back in the friendly skies. Now I just need some n20's for my jet. Thank You again...
Tim, glad to hear your OK..Did your life pass in front of you for a split second? I didn't change my tail, I just added a skid made from a beer can and the provided silver tabs. I did angle the tail or pulled it out at the top of the plastic holder about 1/16th",to give it more lift. My tail is very beat up,I made anew one out of a plate but all it did was nose dive. The tail I made weighed in at .7 grams my old tail was at 1.5 grams. It flies great with old tail. I am working on a tail made from .007" shim stock I will keep you posted. I will try to post some pics of my tail later. That didn't sound right...
Makg, I have an '06 bipe channel C ( RED/BLACK) , will post pic

Thats great! Glad to hear it. 2 for 2! When you first see the size of the parts, it can be a little intimidating.
Sure cheaper than 2 new AA's!

djstinger, the parts are small but when you set up correctly it can be done nicely. great job!!
megabyte, the magnet used was a piece of the "donut magnet" that was part of the ear bud. here's pic while i'm still waiting for the video on you tube, it says : "Status: Uploaded (processing, please wait) ". the chimp is pretty slow today!!

I was going to post how I made a prop from basswood but got side tracked
into the canard project and foam jets. There seems to be no interest in it
so I never got back to it.

Here's a pic of the foam canopy I made for the Rx.
I found simular foam at Home Depot that comes in 4'x8' sheets used as building
insulation. It's almost an 1" thick and once cut and hallowed out is strong and
feather light. They also had a smaller 6 pak of the same material cut in smaller
sheets for about $8- but you could probably find some scraps at a construction
site.
Sands almost as easy as balsa and the canopy took about 10 minutes to make.
Would work great for a fuselage.

Makg, here are pic's of the yellow/green, I refer to it as the green lantern. I would show you the red/black, but currently it is stuck in a tree 1/4 mile away at an altitude of 150+ feet. The really anoying part is that I can see it from my porch and my main launch point.
I got another picco z today. C ch, and it is better out of the box that the A ch. Do I keep trimming out the mono/jet, or trim out the picco z? These are good conflicts to have
