I think both my Cub and my P-47 bounce a lot less in RL than the ones in the sim, but no matter. Speaking of which ... since the first expansion pack is out, it's time to start thinking about the second expansion pack. Any of you other FS One users want to chime in and add your own wish list?
-------------------------------
Dear Horizon,
Here is what I would like out of the next FS One expansion pack, if it were sold for $29.99:
- 4 new flying fields (and maybe hold an online contest for user-generated flying fields that you can include in the release)
- UI overhaul of the customization interface ... most of us have no clue what the numbers do in the configuration screens
New aircraft:
- E-flite P-47
- E-flite Super Airliner
- E-flite JN-4 Jenny
- Flying Styro B-25
- Flying Styro Me262
- Multiplex Twister
- Multiplex FunJet
- a dual-engine warbird
- a quad-engine warbird
- E-flite Blade 400 CP
My wishlist is mostly electric because that's what I fly. But I also believe the industry is going that direction in a very very big way. The market for gas powered planes is slowly dipping its toes in the electric conversions, and the rest of us who are starting RC now in 2007 and forward, are almost invariably going the electric route. It's easier, cheaper, cleaner, less noise, and just as powerful. That plus the flexibility to fly anywhere because of gas-powered restrictions in most metropolitan areas makes it an easy choice. Would love to see FS One ahead of the curve along with Horizon's E-flite offerings. Expand the available model line by 10 new planes next year ... but that is off topic. : )

Hey Khatsalano,
Have you tried changing the view to pilot view and see if the landings still bounce a lot? I'm wondering if your perception of the landing (speed, rate of decent, etc) is different in FSOne verses real life.
I know in my experiences, that everything in FSOne when coming toward me feels different in FSOne vs real flying. I'm not saying it's bad, just different.
Just a thought

With my Mustang PTS, I bounce much more often in RL than in the simulator.

Any of you ever find that the landing surfaces whether it be grass or pavement seem harder in FS One than in RL? ... leading to much more exaggerated bouncing? : )

For me, I use the turbulent wind setting to mimic where I fly here in the San Francisco Bay. I find that the FS One does reasonably well on this type of wind, although I have to say it needs to build in some mini-random gusts... you know, the ones that always get you on your landing. : )
sct, I will try the other POV's. I primarily prefer the F2 one ... it seems closest to how I actually use my eyes and head on the field.

A similar question came up many months ago, and I setup a new wind file
here:
http://www.inertiasoft.com/fsonefaq/...urbBL-Wind.zip
This wind setup includes a 10 mph wind component + turbulence + ground
boundary layer. It has "all" the elements that are encountered when
landing. Use the 'w' key to see the wind speed and direction.
We did not include turbulence with a ground boundary layer along w/
the FS One install. Throwing an atmospheric boundary layer together
w/ turbulence requires ~twice the computation on the wind side of
things. It will not be so great on slow computers.
You'll notice that as you get closer to the ground, the wind speed
will decrease and w/ a crosswind setup this will require less
correction. The turbulence adds in the random element.
--- ooo ---
Unzip the file, look at the readme file, and move the contents to your
FS One "Wind" folder. Then edit the wind list here:
C\:Program Files\FS One\Wind\Lists.cfg
and add this line to the list and end the file w/ a blank line, e.g.:
Name217 = turbulentwind-10mph-000deg-GroundBL1

We're happy to help you if you like. Also, Hangar 9 telephone support is very helpful in working with customers to solve problems.

My husband and 12 year old are very experienced with RC cars, electric and gas, but now they want a flight simulator. I have no clue which is the best for the money, and really don't care for the guys at my local hobby store. Also, do any work on a TV screen, my big screen is so much bigger than my PC.
I'd apprecitate any good advice.
Thanks,
Sue

Hello, and welcome to RCUniverse.
Can I make a helpful suggestion? You've posted in the Simulator forum on the FSOne thread. You have a perfectly good question, but it really would get a bit more general attention if it were a thread all by itself. What you're asking is not specifically about the FSOne simulation.
If you would be so kind as to copy the text, start a new thread, and paste the question into the post you start the thread with, it would benefit you far more than hiding your request in the thread.
Wish you well, and welcome....

Sue,
There are many good choices out there. I use FS One. The other competitors are Reflex, Realflight and AFPD. These will all be around $200 or so I think. You can also get cheaper ones in the $40 range or even free ones like FMS (download online). RealFlight will have the largest user base. Every simulator is good in its own way. So far, I would recommend FS One to serious airplane flyers but at this stage of development, it is questionable how solid it is for helicopter. I mainly fly planes now so I am very happy with FS One because of how realistic the flight physics are and the results I've gotten from training on FS One. You can look at my first flight videos here ( http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Khatsalano ) to see what FS One did for me... I only started flying 4 weeks ago.

Sorry, I had posted this in the Hangar Pack 1 review thread, but think this is probably a better place for it. This is regarding the T-Rex 450 with the 1.0.9 patch installed.
For anyone usings the FSOne TacCon controller, I made a few settings changes that made the FSOne T-Rex fly very close to my real T-Rex 450SE with Trueblood dampers & 325 blades. After these tweaks I'm very happy with this T-Rex in FSOne.
First create a copy of the T-Rex, then choose Edit.
• Under Aerodynamics I made the changes to Rotation Damping: Roll: 0.100, Pitch: 0.100, Yaw: 0.100
• Under Main Roter I made changes to Blade Rotational Inertia to 0.0028
These worked for me and made the T-Rex feel more stable and like the real thing. There may be a few settings for the tail that I'll look into fine-tuning, but these settings are a good start.

Hey Kraig,
I tried your settings and it worked well for me too. I've played around with other settings too, which always involved making the empty weight heavier to start with.
Mass: empty weight 1.8
Aerodynamics: aerodynamics reference area .2
Aerodynamics: Drag Coefficient, Fore/aft .4, Left/right 2.0, up/down .4
These settings were not done in conjunction with yours.
I'm primarily looking to slow the craft down so I have at least a fighting chance to work on inverted flying, so these settings may not be what you are looking for.
Additionally, I'm not very satisfied with the tail authority, so I hope to work on that tonight.
Thanks for sharing your settings,
Scott H

Scott - Thanks for your settings. I'll have to make another T-Rex copy and give your settings a try. I'm working on the same thing, inverted hover & inverted forward flight. Tired of rebuilding my real T-Rex, and now that the FSOne T-Rex is more stable I'll save money by practicing there.
The tail does feel very strange. Almost the jerky feel of a motorized tail, but it also holds headlock too ridged. Let me know if you find a setting to dial in tail a little more.

Kraig, I tried a new vew setting last night that might interest you. I don't recall, but I think it is F12. It is the mouse click view (I don't remember the exact name), but I found that I could set the view to be level with the craft about 10 feet away. No matter how high or low, the view stayed level with the craft. In this view, I was able to see close up what the controls were doing to the attitude of the heli.
When I get home this evening, I'll have a look at the actual name of this view and post again.

For all you FSOne addicts, who want to further adjust the tail.
In addition to the afformentioned controls to the aerodynamics settings and mass settings, try these for the tail:
Solidity: .25
Overshoot time constant: .002
Also, if you want a view to help you get an idea of how to fly inverted, try the F6 key and select the Track aligned 10 feet. This view changes depending on how the mouse is moved. I set the position so the mouse was at ground elevation at the tail of the heli. Make sure you climb to a high enough elevation before you try anything. Don't want to crash your heli
Have fun!

Scott,
You did it. Thanks man. The T-Rex is about dead on to the real thing now.
Here's my mods mixed with yours.
• Under Aerodynamics I made the changes to Rotation Damping: Roll: 0.100, Pitch: 0.100, Yaw: 0.100
• Under Main Roter I made changes to Blade Rotational Inertia to 0.0028
• Mass: empty weight 1.8
• Aerodynamics: aerodynamics reference area .2
• Tail Rotor: Solidity: .25
• Tail Rotor: Overshoot time constant: .002

Okay for anyone wanting to try these mods:
Copy the Trex heli and give it a name of your choosing;
Select Edit from the selections on the left hand side of the screen;
Choose Aerodynamics
*aerodynamics reference area .2
*Drag Coefficient: Fore/Aft .4, Left/right 2.0, up/down .4
*Rotation Damping: Roll: 0.100, Pitch: 0.100, Yaw: 0.100
Choose the Mass tab
*empty weight 1.8
Choose the Main Rotor Tab
*Blade Solidity .06
*Blade Rotational Inertia to 0.003
Choose Tail Rotor tab
*Rotor Solidity: .35
*Rotor Overshoot Constant 4.2
*Overshoot time constant: .002
I have found that any changes to the main rotor also then require changes to the Tail rotor, I haven't really worked out the relationship so please don't ask. These numbers were developed from just trial and error.
One more thing, I have the DX6 radio and for my flying preferences (for now anyway) I have turned down the rates of the right stick (fore/aft and left/right). I don't have a track controller, so I haven't had a chance to look to see how that's done, which would have to be within FSOne's transmitter software settings.
Good flying, and I hope these settings work for you as well as they do for me.
Kraig, try these new settings, makes the heli fly great.

I have a new tip for everyone who is flying the trex450. This tidbit will further tame the heli down and it's easy to do.
I got ahold of a TracCon controller tonight and here's what I would suggest to anyone who uses the traccon with FSOne.
In addition to the prior postings:
If you haven't already, make a copy of the TracCon Transmitter.
Click Edit, after the transmitter functions become available, click on the tab at the top of the screen where it says "mixing";
In the window that pops up, select CCPM120 and click on the edit button;
Click on the following field and change these from: to:
Roll Chan Gain: From .6, To .3
Pitch Chan Gain: From .6 to .3
Click OK
and Ok again.
Now these functions will save and the edit transmitter screen will appear;
Go to the Rudder or Left Stick, left/right, and in the transmitter section the second and third column say Min Max respectively;
The Min is probably set to -1.0 and the Max is 1.0; (this setting change when the idle up switch is activated on the transmitter, so be sure to adjust both idle up position and the normal position)
Click on the Min -1.0 ( a new window will pop up) click the up arrow to get to -.6, click OK
Click on the Max 1.0, then click on the down arrow to get to .6, click okay
Now switch the to idle up if you were in Normal, or vise versa and repeat these steps.
Now go to the Expo% with is the 7th column from the left and change that to 68% for both Normal and Idle up.
Click OK in the upper right corner and go fly!
Now these changes make this bird pretty tame, but not docile. These will be good settings to get your fingers to do what your mind wants them to do. You can slow the bird down even more by going to .2 in the CCPM window, but that was too tame for me.
The tail settings really slow down the tail too, so if you want that faster change the rate to -.7 and .7 respectively for normal and Idle up.
These changes work really well with the previously posted changes.
Have fun!

So, you've updated your video card drivers, and audio drivers by going to each mfr's website and downloading the latest versions, assuming you've done that correctly, I'd say just call Horizon Hobby and have them sort it out for you. No sense in wasting any more time.
