Well my Sledge kit arrived today...They said it would be 2-5 business days and it took 7. It's not a big deal, but I thought I would mention it.
I open up the box and the first thing I notice is the badly burnt edge's of the ribs and all the laser-cut parts. I know this is from the laser-cutting, but this is MUCH worse than anything else I have seen...Again, not a big deal.
The instructions look pretty good, but I'm definitely going to need some help on the pull-pull setup. Everything else looks good. The plans aren't the greatest, but they will do. The wood is a little on the heavy side and I will definitely be replacing some sticks.
Here's what bothers me- On my reciept is says"B/O pull-pull cable sheaths"
I am going to assume that means my pull pull cable sheaths are on back order. Whatever it means, they are missing! How great is that? You know the worst part about it? I was completely expecting to have something missing, but I was hoping for a couple sticks of wood! It is a Morris kit after all, isn't it?
I was really starting to believe they got things fixed up over there, but I guess not. My first impression from a couple years ago when I first started hearing about missing parts and all that is apparently all true! This is definitely a dissapointment... My Tower Hobbies Extra Special kit (Great Planes) for $45 was 10 times better at this point. We will see how the build processs goes and if I ever get those "sheaths"
I guess I'll just build except the last few steps of the fuselage which includes putting the "sheaths" in. Is there something else I can use? I'll see if my LHS has anything, but I don't think they will...
I should add that I paid $110 for this kit for one and only one reason and that is the way it flies. Once I get past the building and get to the flying I think I'll forget about ALL of this...Let's hope!

Brian,
The pull pull is easy to set-up. Matter of fact, Jeff made it a point to explain in detail, how to set it all up in the instructions.
Look at the Sullivan line of ny-rods and pull pull cables. I think the yellow tubes you need are theirs. Definately use Morris' cable though. IMO its the best stuff thats out there for smaller planes. Ask Debbie at Morris how many times I have ordered 25' of it.

BotleRocket,
I also got mine yesterday, and no yellow pull-pull sheaths. And yes the laser cut edge of the wood seems more burned than other kits I have had but accuracy is what counts, so we will see. My impression however was good. Dubro tank, standard size Dubro-not metric-hardware, Pull-Pull rudder & elevator, Dave brown light weight tires, superb step by step instructions including setup of travel, expo, & flaperons. Mine will be on the back burner for a month while I finish my AW edge, so let us know how yours turns out.

Wayne,
I can tell the hardware is good stuff. I still can't see $110 justified here, but it's good stuff! I looked through the instructions and could not find anything on setting up the pull-pull, but I'll go back again and see if I missed it. I'll contact Morris Hobbies and see when they plan on sending me the stuff. If it's going to be more than a week, I'll just have to buy it all again...Might have enough hardware laying around after this to build a OMP Edge...
Thanks Wayne!
John,
I'll be glad to let you fly it...What do I get to fly? Don't you have a Top Cap?
Give me a week or two and she will be ready to go...It better start raining around here so the fact that I have nothing to fly doesn't get to me!
You probably don't want it, but I got a framed up Fun 51 that needs a home...

Brian, I've got the old reliable TopCap ready to go. It's on it's second engine, now sporting a Thundertiger pro 46 w/mouse can muffler. I'll be VEEERRY careful with your sledge! You've got to fly my Diabolic. It's awesome and does flat, straight down elevators in a slight breeze, and the tightest waterfalls you've ever seen.

Chuck,
It's just money, right? <G>
John,
This Sledge ought to be sort of familiar...It's going to have a Pro .46 too, with a Tower muffler. I'll start building tomorrow! I know how you fly...You won't have to be careful.
We will have to do some formation hovering.

My Sledge was a proof model, and I set up my own hardware. You can find some plastic tubing for the pull pull at NAPA. It is a Beldon product 1/8" plastic oil pressure line. It comes 25' in a box, and that is enough for several airplanes. Tom

With all those problems listed, you really shouldn't build it! Just send it to me, I will know what to do with it.
Seriously if you like 3-d and an all around good flying airplane, you'll love the sledge, if its built light, straight, and like Jeff says to!

Bottlerocket war, check with morris to see if the cable housings are on back order. My guess is that is what BO means, you paid for them so they owe them to you and I am sure they will send them. If you do not have a detailed section within the manual on the pull pull set up, then you are missing a section and should not proceed until Morris sends it to you. The instruction manual is very detailed and I think you will find there are few if any holes in it. You stated you did not like the plans, what specifically are you referring too. I cannot make better plans until the end users say here is what I like/do not like. Email me at [email protected] anytime you have a question and I will be happy to explain and let me know about those plans. Jeff Williams

Its here. I opened it up and everything looks great. The wood is a little dark on the edges but it is really clean cut. The sheaths for the pull pull are missing but on the receipt it says that they will be shipped separately. I'm not going to unroll the plans till I get ready to build it. I only wish these kits had some decent landing gear. All in all I'm satisfied. The only problem is I have two other projects I have to finish before I get started on it....John

I looked through it all again and there is nothing on setting up the Pull-pull. Where in the manuel SHOULD be it be?
I started building tonight and got one wing half framed up. Tomorrow I'll do the other half and get them all finished...I don't understand what makes the center joint strong enough, but I'll just have to wait and see!
I went to the hobby store and replaced most of the 1/4 inch and a couple other sticks with some lighter ones. I want this thing LIGHT!
So far I really like how it goes together. It is definitely different than what I am used to, but I like it... Your instructions are great!
I can't wait to get this thing in the air...

Brian, you are definitely missing a section to your instruction manual. There is a 3 or 4 page section dedicated just to the pull pull cable installation with lots of pictures. Give Morris a call tomorrow and they will get that out to you. Jeff

There are a couple of weird things in the manual.
The pages go from 1~18, then from 15~28. Not sure if the Pull-Pull setup is lost in the shuffle...I had inst. for running the tubes and mounting the servos, but not any cable termination inst.
But I'm kinda resourceful, I was able to run the cables without much to-do about it all. And I think it came out OK
BRW can built a Japanese jigsaw puzzle with no instructions in a couple of days, I would have thought he could have tackled this. LOL

Chuck, I said the instructions for it were missing... I did not say I wasn't going to make some on my own. I can tie a few knots...
That reminds me, when are you going to build those "Japanese jigsaw puzzles" ?
T Smith, It's just the tubes that are missing. My engine mounts and part of the isntructions are also gone. There might be more, but I never go through all the parts BEFORE building...
I'll have this built as much as it can be with the missing parts by the weekend...I am going to over it like the biggie H9 Cap scheme. I always liked how Waynes second Top Cap looked with those colors and just have to copy it!
Wayne, I hope you don't mind me posting this. I am hoping for it to look like this- in the form of a Sledge!
