when you say you want to upgrade the motor, do you mean just the motor, or do you want an entirely new outboard unit? In that case look into the graupner 650 outboard. Otherwise you can simply upgrade to a new motor and put that in your outboard unit. As far as what motor is good, I cant tell you, for I dont know what your esc is rated for, i.e. amps/turns. In any event, you may consider a simple graupner 600 or equivalent motor. If you can find the esc ratings I can give you a better suggestion.

I don't know anything about this boat as there really isn't any Ripmax dealers in the USA that sell this boat. Size in millimeters and price don't help either.
Redrocket, I don't think that it has an outboard setup on it so that would be out. It seems like I saw an atricle on this boat late last year in Marine Modeling International. Yes, we get that magazine over here so it keeps me up on what's going on overseas.

The 25a is refering to the amp rating of the esc.

BTW, it's definitly an an outboard. Look at the pictures on his link on the "tomkat", not the boat that comes up when you click the link, that incorrect, the tomkat is on the left in the menu.

Hi Nitroarcher,

Instead of the 540 motor that comes with he boat you could take a Graupner 600 eco race, start with a smaller prop, if the shaft allows it (is it standard M4 thread?).
Watercool the motor and the ESC, its 25 A rating should be enough (watercooled!)

Post some pics of the interior, please (so the Americans can see that the outboard is a dummy)

Regards, Jan.

P.S.: You could mail Ripmax and ak them, they have a number of boats that they hop up, they (Clive Coote or his P.A )should be able to tell you what motor/prop combination is the limit for the 25 A speedcontroller.

get an astro flight 207D speed controller. its cheap compared to most of the brushless systems, and it gives you a wide range of motors and power to choose from. it will handle just about any brushed motor you put on it and up to 36 cells and its completely water proof it will actually run under water i do believe as the entire board is sealed in either silicon or epoxy.

Yup! I took the latest issue of MMI to work today to check it out, there is a short article of it in there. Inboard motor in it.

Out board is a dummy. The motor is at the front of the boat with the shaft running full lenght inside.

I have some external images here:- [link=http://www.rckingdom.co.uk/main/water/waterelectric/ripmax/tomkat.html]tomkat[/link] I can get some internal if anyone is still interested.

You could upgrade the motor to a Zenoah. That will get you some more speed.

Yeah, right Aaronie. This is a little electric powered boat. I don't think that you could shoehorn a large Electric in there.

For a moment I thought that nitroarcher was referring to the "Reef skimmer" in the ripmax product line. I've got one of those boats. They were sold here 2 yrs. ago by Radio Shack under the same name.
