trailblazer: On my original smt engine i had the low speed needle set at about two turns out and the high speed needle at about 2,5 turns out, found that it worked great for my engine. your engine may need a different setting so dont thrust that it works for your engine. The engine should be able to run for a full minute on idle, then you know your low speed needle is set correct and you can start experimenting on your high speed needle. It can be a bugger to tune with the smt carburettor.. Good luck, hope this helps.

sweeet! it runs! i tried my servos, and they worked, but when i started the engine they quit, and the rpms increased. i quickly killed the engine, and i turned my throttle to idle. i turned off my receiver, and started it back up. no problem but when i turn on the receiver the rpms race. i took the batteries out and tested them. no problem. now my servos turn fine, but i bet if i started the car they'd go crazy.

you know where to get some with a charger?....and hey i opened up my reciever box a little bit i didnt open it all the way just took the 2 screws out and cracked it open i noticed there are 2 slits at the end(where the lid snaps in by the antena cord) this may have let water in it making it go crazy...as far as i can tell my servo's seem tight enough to not get water in them because it wasnt in water for but a second, but i bet the reciever box got quite a bit in it...i cant tell cause it doesnt open all the just cracks open and im not going to force it open, so im letting it dry and will check it out later

codykrr, you can buy nicad batteries at walmart with a charger. energizer has some pretty nice ones, but they may be expensive. how are your servos acting? sluggish, or jittery? mine seem to work fine until i start the car. the carb opens up all the way with out me even touching it, then they just stop working all together. how many tanks have you put through your car? mine is brand new only 7 tanks so far. its my second day owning it.

by the way my receiver, and my batteries were in balloons "birthday party balloons" to keep them dry, so that leads me to believe that its the servos. that are bad

ive ran about 11 tanks through it so far taking it easy till about the 11th, i had to get on it
and my steering servo is weak and my throttle servo is just going back and forth making the carb open to full throttle and goes back to idle and does this over and over till i hit the brakes...then it just stops and sounds like it is straining and thats when i shut it off...i dont wanna strip any gears yet(cant afford servo's at the moment)and it does this without the car started....and also while engine was running

maybe we have two different problems. i hope i can fix the cars vulnerability to moisture, because i was planning on running my car on the lake when it freezes. if i cant figure it out i have to wait till spring to run my car again. does anyone have any ideas on winterizing my car? i thought the balloons would be enough, but apparently they were not.

well then take a hair dryer and warm the engine in your garage or house then start it shouldnt have any problems then you will also have to adjust the motor for colder weather...

i have also heard that if you cut a coke can in half...and place it over your engine for a while after its started it will help keep it up to temp if its really cold just make sure its not too hot

docphysics, how do you keep your electronics dry? my car got screwed up, although it seems ok now. do the electronics have a low operating temp? i mean can they be used in really cold weather? would a failsafe help with the engine revving up really fast and the car taking off suddenly? i think my car maybe shorted out temporarily, and that caused the electronics to freeze where they were at.

ok unless these are really cheep servos they should be watterproof, infact i dont think any servos arent watterproof. to keep your receiver dry, wrap it in a plastic grocery bag and tie it with a rubber band, running the antana through the end of course.

codykrr: make sure that the spring on the throttle linkage gets a little pressure at idle position. This will make sure that the carb wont open up because of vibrations from engine. or perhaps your carb settings are too lean?
I used to run the car with alkaline batteries before, and a good sign that they needed replacing were servos going crazy. notice that when you turn on the power on the car, the servos will move a bit before they stop at their correct position. dead alkalines make the car turn on and off, on and off... dead nicads make the servos slow and weak.
I would recommend a 6v hump pack for your cars. dont put rechargeable batteries in the original battery holder, then you will get 4,8volts instead of 6..
