I forget what gearing i'm running. I dont know if its "top gearing" though. A 3S will fit in but you have to buy thw battery bay expansion kit. It raises up the ESC and the battery holder.
Or half inch fuel tube inder each of the screws...

My son runs the blue lipo's, 2 cell 5000mah... He loves it. Stock gearing an all, but he is only 9. Think that's enough for him right now...

Sounds like 25 / 86 would be fine for my rustler on 3s . gonna try that today for a few speed runs and check the temps . I have a 28 tooth pinion that i will try if the temps are good . I put some Anaconda premounts on , and traxxas rubber tires on the traxxas plastic wheels for the wheelie bar . I had alluminum wheels but lost one during my first speed runs session the other day . Had a bearing blow out and the alluminum wheelie bar wheel was no where to be found . I raised the esc mounting plate up with longer screws and some alluminum tubing as spacers . The 3s slides in no poblem !!! 70 MPH here I come !!!!

Ok.. more tire questions now.

If I put the 2.2 Proline tires (mashers etc) do I need to change my gearing at all? it's currently set up with the stock factory gear setting.. I've made absolutely no changes at all. I know that it comes stock with the 2.8 tires, but I've seen many reports of folks using the 2.2 tires, have they changed their gears as well?

put alluminum shock caps on , they do not pop off , also you can replace the shafts with the titanium nitride coated ones . traxxas makes both those things . good cheap upgrades .

Stock tires are actually 2.2 but the mashers have more "meat" on them, (They're both 2.2) but since mashers are bigger you will want to gear down on the pinion about 2 teeth

the stock tires are 2.8. 2.2 rims are easily bought and allow for alot more tire variety.

Hey everyone,
Just got my rusty for a birthday present on monday. so far it is totally stock except i did do some painting on it.
here's the specs for those intrested:
titan 12t motor
xl-5 esc
traxxas 7-cell battery

i have ran it 4 times already and realize im going to need to get better tires. i have a hell of a time getting it to hook up on anything (dirt, gravel, pavement). at full throttle it just breaks loose and fish tails.

here are some pics (nuthin special......yet)

im going to get some adjustable camber links and do some tweaking to the suspension set up to see if that helps. but in the dirt, if i punch it it just does donuts or fish tails everywhere.

Hey guys, I just got a Rustler VXL and I had turned on the system in the car and was about to pick up my transmitter to turn it on and the car just took off by itself. I have never seen anything like it and I was wondering what the problem could be. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

you made a huge mistake. always turn on the transmitter before turning on the car. it received a different signal and did what that told it to do.

yeah you always need to turn on the transmitter first. thats like the golden rule of r/c 'ing. just remember to turn on the transmitter first and your good to go.

i picked up some adjustable upper links front and rear and did some dialing in and it is way better now. it still wants to fishtail in the dirt but it is alot more controlable now. still going to upgrade the tires when i run through the stockers

Get 4 Proline Road Rage(or road hawg) for 2.2".I've tried them and the seem very good.I had only a small problem...The diameter of road rage(and hawg)tires is smaller than stock(Itried them in a rc10t3)The front tires were bigger(in diameter). It wasn't look like a nice car....

are you sure its not stripped? one thing i noticed with one of my pinions is that the allen wrench included with the truck wont work with but it works in the others. i just use the same sized wrench from another set of wrenches.
