Default RE: Get the Reflex and AFP conversion tool for AFPD here

Great conversion software, makes flying photo-realistic !
I converted Reflex scenes BUT have a problem.

I am able to fly the "Reflex" scene BUT when I click to choose another scenery, APFD crashes.
Is there a file that got changed that need to be re-installed or what ?
I plan on checking this in depth and see for a solution. Appears AFPD will work but unable to select a scenery.
If I find a solution, I will be back but of course I will wait and see what information that may be passed on to me.
Problem manifested itself after I converted the files (several Reflex photo scenes)

Thanks and will wait for feedback.

The tool doesn't overwrite any AFPD files so I'm not sure why it's crashing. Here are some questions for you.

1. Does it crash if you're flying in a regular AFPD scene and then try to switch to another one?
2. Which Reflex scenes exactly are you using? If you can provide a link, please do.
3. What does the crash do? System lockup? Illegal instruction dialog? App hang only?
4. Did you apply the latest AFPD patch?
5. Do you have the music feature enabled?
6. Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the Communist party?

1. Does it crash if you're flying in a regular AFPD scene and then try to switch to another one?

Ok, I converted Reflex files(s). Elmshorner, FTG Borstel, MFG Heist, Modellflugverien, Sporthalle, etc.
I proceeded to convert with program (Converter program) and no problems on creating files and go fly.
I went to AFPD and selected a scene. I quit flying the scene. Went to main screen to select Scenery and AFPD crashes. HOWEVER, it appears that it may be random or a specific scene (not sure,YET). A dialog box appears and I click on cancel and that's it. I am in the process of adding one Reflex scene at a time and see if it crashes. I then take it out if it appears to do so. By the way, I did re-install AFPD just to be sure.

Maybe, it appears that if I "fly" a reflex converted scene and select a AFPD scene, AFPD crashes. I will check on a common factor.

2. Which Reflex scenes exactly are you using? If you can provide a link, please do.

See above names.

3. What does the crash do? System lockup? Illegal instruction dialog? App hang only?

AFPD has generated errors and will close down. I click on cancel to close box.

4. Did you apply the latest AFPD patch?

YES ! Latest patch installed

5. Do you have the music feature enabled?

Music is DISABLED

6. Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the Communist party?

Nein !

Mark, follow up on what's appears to be going on.
When I select a converted scene (Reflex), it will work and allow me to fly. I then can go out and select another scene. But if I select an original AFPD scene, it crashes.
By the way, if it matters: Win2000, amd 2400+, 1.5gig mem, Ti4200. I don't think the PC specs are at fault. AFPD has been working flawlessly. I will keep plugging away and see if it's a specific file, if the filename is correct, etc.
Thanks for looking into it. I will be great to see it work for me.

On a side note. I also used Easyfly and downloaded a photorealistic scene made for it. However, the author of the program stated you need to start (select & load) an original Easyfly scene FIRST. Otherwise, the program would crash if you selected his modified scene.
May not be related, but who knows.

Default RE: Get the Reflex and AFP conversion tool for AFPD here

I went and checked several times the files that were converted and the original AFPD files. That's after deleting and adding a scene file one at a time.
I believe for whatever reason the following scene is the culprit. That is, the system did not crash choosing between converted Reflex and AFPD when the following file removed.
The file name is:Modellflugverein_Grosse_Heide_73_eV.

When I would choose this file and then another, it would crash system. So far that's what I am seeing here.
I will be testing the files (scenes) away. I will report any errors, etc.

Hmm, that scene sounds familiar. I'll look at it when I find the time. Let me know if you find anything else out.

Ok...will check the files I've converted extensively. So far no crashes. That is, going between converted and original AFPD files.
I will keep that other file away from the system. Thanks !

Hi GLC.
You need to rename this reflex scenery for it to work in AFPD Gross Hide_eV this worked for me and stoped it crashing the other scens as well. see below.

Thanks dafid !,

Renaming the file, is that the directory that files GO INTO or renaming the files themselves ?
I don't know if the file name is a problem (too long) or what. Were you able to find the specific cause of the crash ?
I'll check it out. Let me know and take it from there.

Hi GCL
This is for AFPD only.

What you should have in the main scenery directory is:- 4 items

item.1 folder with all the tmt panoramic files, and outside of the folder
item.2 256 x 256 preview,of scenery
item.3 64 x 64 thumb,of scenery
item.4 GEO file.

All 4 items are to be renamed exactly this Grosse-Hide_eV This worked for me, think the original name was to long cant be shure.

Hope this helps m8.

Regards Dave

Thanks dafid,

I went and converted the scenery with a shorter name and it *appears* that it worked. No crashes or whatever. Either something was fluky when first installed or (most likely) a bad file of sort. I'll keep plugging away and see. Will keep all advised.

If it is in fact a naming issue (AFPD doesn't like spaces in the name) then rest assured that it's fixed in the next version of the converter. Should be ready on Monday.

Patience is a virtue

Hehe, just kidding. Just fired up Visual Studio right when your message came to add the finishing touches in the code. If I don't run into any snags, it'll be done today.

I better hurry too cause my 3D Buddy Edge 540 is arriving in the mail tomorrow [8D]

Earlier I wrote:

I followed the link http://www.schmidt6.com/AFPD/AFPDSceneryInstaller.zip
IE says nothing there. Am I missing something, or is an upgrade in progress.
Thanks

scratch that. I found the new thread. Thanks.

Aloha, [8D]

I've been trying to convert some of the Reflex XTR scenes to AFPD with no luck at all ... I got the latest "Installer" from OMP web site but still the conversions are not working right ...

I converted "MFG-Tangstedt-eV" & "SQF-Hof" but the plane is up in the sky when landed and seems to goto a sink-hole as I drive it to myself to see the ground ...

Has somebody else had better luck?

Also, I've got some very high resolution pictures of our local flying field here in Hilo Hawaii ... "WKP-Shipman-Field" can somebody make a scene for AFPD and Reflex XTR with them if I give you the measurements to the few obsticles?

Shipman Field is a 500' paved runway with an 8-acre grass lawn and a snow capped Mauna Kea mountain w/Telescopes atop in the background ... it's a pretty awesome flying field ...

I'd like it in the sim's and I'm sure many sim users would like to fly it too ...

BTW, see the pic's 'n video's ...
