I just installed mine on a Pentium 3.4 with Nvidia 6600 but for some reason, every time I try to fly a plane, the computer shuts down and restarts. The only plane I can fly without the computer shutting down is the BVM Bobcat.

The worse part is that I uninstalled it from my computer and tried to install it on a different one to see if I had the same problem - guess what - The CD gives me an error that another copy of FSone is in use. It looks as though I cannot install the progam to any other system than it was originally installed on - even if the old copy is uninstalled.

Anyone else have this problem?

Matt-

I found this problem too, however in my case if you just hit "j" on the keyboard, it starts the motor right back up for you. You should give it a try if you havent already.

FSOneDev-

Are their any plans to fix the panoramic sites so that the models will actually look like they pass behing things like trees, so that you dont have to guess? And fix the collosion of these objects when you come from behind them? Then their is the parking garage site, where the model just falls into space (this happens on other site too i think). These are things that really take away from the experience for me.

...

On another note: When recording a flight and then trying to capture it using FRAPS, the recording plays back at about 1/16th the original speed. I"m used Fraps to capture G3 and never had a problem so its not an issue with computer performance. What did the FS One team use to capture the demo/marketing videos?
Recordings play back at full speed when running normally within the sim.

If I'm reading things right here, the super-slow speed is when FRAPS is running and the sim runs in playback mode at the same time. Be sure that you are in fact playing back and full speed and not inadvertently hitting the backspace key option and playing back in slow motion using the gadget controls.

All of the raw footage for the demo videos were made using FRAPS.

*********************** MATERIAL BELOW *************************
*** FOR ADVANCED USERS! FOR ADVANCED USERS! FOR ADVANCED USERS! ***

FS One let's you set the sim window size to be whatever you want. For FRAPS, 320x240 works nicely. That's the size of the demo videos.

BEFORE entering 320x240 for the window size, do this. PRACTICE setting the size to a small window and then go back to full size. Start w/ 640x480, and then go back to 1280x1024. Then go smaller and go back again. The font will get smaller and smaller. By the time you try 320x240, the font is tiny and going back requires clicking on miniature boxes, hitting backspace to clear the old values, and then typing, say, 1280x1024. The font is not legible at this small 320x240 size. Hence practice to get the hang of typing in numbers that you cannot see.

If things get messed up, they can be corrected by editing the options.txt file in the Options folder of the FS One install directory. FIRST exit FS One. Open the options.txt file and enter the screen resolution that you want on the ResolutionX and ResolutionY lines (see these lines below in the section in the options.txt file). Then restart FS One and all should be fine again.

[VIDEO]
AutoFullscreen = 0
FullscreenMode = 0
WindowLocationX = 0
WindowLocationY = 0
ResolutionX = 1280
ResolutionY = 1024
VideoFreq = 60
AutoCentering = 1
SplitScreenHorizontal = 1
SinglePlayerUseSplitScreen = 0
TwoPlayerUseSplitScreen = 0

Another tip: In the Options menu there's a group called Messages. You can turn off Messages so that these do not show up in FRAPS recordings.

Any idea when and how addition planes will be available for FsOne?

Specifically Extra's! 300L, 300s, 300, and 260 (Mike M must want a 260!)

I am sure other people would add Yak's to the list.

Thanks

Rob
I like that line up too, including the Yak! Quique's Yak in real flies
like a dream (err ... when he's flying). We've got a new list of planes
that we're working on now, but we're not yet ready to say what they are.
Sorry for not giving more info yet.

Some people in this thread have highlighted software conflicts (e.g. Window Blinds w/ FS One and other conflicts w/ other apps). So a good approach is to try turning off things. After that trying, different video drivers (latest or an older version - something different from what you have) has solved problems like this.

Nothing on the CDs prevents you from reinstalling on a new machine or the original machine. On the original machine, just uninstall first and reinstall. On a new machine, you should have no problem. If you still have problems (would be puzzling), let us know here or call Horizon Product Support.

Michael,
Thanks for the info on Fraps! I tried it again last night and it played back at normal speed but the frame rate was aweful. So, after reading your post I think it was because I was trying to capture full screen at 1280x1024 I'll drop it down to 320 and see how it goes.

..and yes, QQ's Yak flies like a dream...even his 102" and 85" (have both) are awesome. If you're gonna put a Yak in, that would be the one!

Yes, I would love to see Quique's Yak (actually all of them, from the Byp to the biggest gas powered).

Are these new planes going to be free to download? This would be a big selling point to me, I don't want to buy addon disks like G3 has.

Thanks

I have flown G3 a little and purchased FS one. I have about the same amount of time on each simulator.

G3 is a much better game.
I enjoyed playing this game more than FS One. It has some really cool features.

FS one is a much better simulator.
It was harder to fly. I got a false sence of accomplishment from some of the things I pulled off in G3.
I was suprized at times to see how realistic the A/C reacted.

Most posts are biased by people who have a loyal comentment to a certain SIM product.
I would like to see some guys out at the field that have never used a sim take each for a test drive. They would be able to give an unbaised review that would confirm the better sim.

I was very impressed with the Blade CX/CP and the added difficulty to flying 3D planes.

Some of the tech support I have read on this forum goes way beyond what I would expect from most companies.

I have one problem...
I have a 3ghz P4HT ATI X1300 PCIE 1gig ram Sound blaster audigy zs2

The sound works but randomly cuts out. and crackles. Lowering settings listed in the FAQ did not work. there is another guy posting with the same issue.

Lowering settings may help fix some peoples problems, but still feel that should not be considered the fix. I am hoping that this is still be looked and a fix comes out in an upcoming patch

I used to have an Audigy 2 and ended up getting rid of it. Audigy seems to have a big problem with IRQ sharing. I know on my computer if the Audigy was running on an IRQ shared with something else I would get a lot of crackle in the speakers. It was not the speakers but the sound coming from the card. Moving it to an unshared IRQ lessened it but even if it was shared with a USB hub or the USB ports themselves it caused problems.

I bought a $30.00 sound card from Compusa - problems went away and while its not as great in sound quality it ALWAYS works.

My problems with my Audigy though were long before FS One so I have no experience using it with FS One.

Thanks for the info. I had the IRQ sharing problem on my old computer. Since I purchased my new computer, I made sure to install the sound and video card on their own IQR, so I'm sure mine is not shared.

The popping noise reported with the Audigy card happens to a variety of programs. It seems unrelated to this paticular problem since it actually cuts out and only happens with FS one.

Everybodies computer is different and it probably impossible for programmers to test all the variations for a new program. I think it is acceptable for a new program to have bugs. I am just hoping a patch comes out to address this.

I flew the sim at Northland R/C in Kansas ity, it was great. I bought it and loaded on my computer. This sim does not support Media Center. When flying for 10 seconds, it reboots my computer. No fix from Hanger Nine. Suggested I buy windows XP for sim to work. Rich

Update on my problem. I downloaded all new drivers for my video and sound but still had the same problem of the sim shutting down the computer when I hit the throttle. Next I reduced the acceleration on my sound driver and that fixed the problem. Apparently it's not compatible with my onboard sound from Realtek.

Iquit241 and GeneG -- We're looking into the sound problems and once we figure it out will put the sound fix in a patch. I noticed that both of you are using Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card. Do you have up-to-date drivers for these? Also, which version of DirectX is installed on your PC?

FUBAR03 -- We're also looking into adding features for the Panos (such as adding obscuration when flying behind things and improving collisions).

w0mbat -- Thanks for the update on your problem. Glad to hear things are working now.

sawdust858 -- We tested FS One on Windows Media Center during development and testing and it worked fine, so it must be an issue with your system configuration. Please read through the forums and FS One FAQs:

[link=http://www.fsone.com/Support/Default.aspx]FS Product Site FAQs[/link]

[link=http://www.inertiasoft.com/fsonefaq/index.html]InertiaSoft FS One FAQs[/link]

If after reviewing these sources, you can't figure it out, post your system configuration info and any problem details and we'll try to help online.

I really want to know the answer to this question. The more i fly, the more i find problems with the collision detection and graphics. One of FSOne's selling points was how the aircraft acted differently on paved vs grass surfaces. In some of the fields (like the big T) i see this, on others (like the panorama of the airport) i dont. For that matter, the panorama of the airport has absolutely no collision detction what so ever! The planes fly very realistically, no doubt. Much more so than in G3. And that is what is important to me, because i want to be a better pilot. But some of this stuff is kind of rediculous, i cant believe it got released with these issues.

Is stuff like this going to be fixed? And do you know how long it is going to take?

Sorry FSOneDev, you must have posted while i was typing. Im glad to hear you all are acknowledging the problem and everything, and i dont mean to come off rude, i think FSOne is great. I just can't believe it shipped with out layers in the pano's and what not. I would have thought that was a given. Anyways, thanks for the reply, and keep up the good work.

Hi Brian,

First off let me say thanks for being available on this forum. I am willing to bet that you're doing this on your own time. Customer service like that builds loyalty. I wanted to make sure you knew that we noticed and appreciate it!!

I do have the most up to date Sound Blaster drivers and DirectX9.0c. The truth is that SB drivers suck. No doubt about it. Too bad their hardware sounds so good!

The more I listen to the problem the more I can pick up about it. First off I don't think the sound is cutting out. If I crank up the Volume I can hear that the music is actually just getting extremely quiet every few seconds. I still cannot hear the engine noises. However, if I run a recorded Aircraft I can hear that engine. I am starting to thing that the Audigy is getting confused as it processes the music & sound. Since one of its features it being about to create a 3D sound field (one of its best features!) I think its doing that with the FSOne music and effects and screwing it up. I am trying to play with that but I can't find a way to actually turn off that feature.

If I find a solution I will pot it here.

Thanks for the info. Do you hear some aircraft sounds (such as during idle), but as you throttle-up, the sounds disappear? Some other users experienced this, but the sound acceleration setting solved that. I am currently unable to reproduce your problem exactly (we'll probably go buy a SB Audigy2 and test with it specifically), so I need as many details as possible.

In general, the problem is most likely related to the ability of the card (and driver) to play multiple sounds simultaneously. There must be some subtle incompatibility with Direct Sound (part of Direct X).

If you have any other clues to help solve this, please post. Thanks!

The only time I hear the engine sound is in a recorded plane. The voice in the lessons sounds perfect (no drop outs) as well but I don't hear any plane sounds during the lessons either. I tried to turn off every feature in the Audigy but it made no difference. I DL'd the newest DirectX and Sound Blaster Drivers just to be sure. Still no change.

With the Volume Cranked ALL THE WAY UP I hear the engine sounds of my plane under the static. If I also fly with a recorded plane, that plane's engine is at normal volume. As the recorded plane flys around me the sound moves to the appropriate speakers (behind me, to the right, etc...).

I am still leaning toward the problem being with the 3D sound. I think that the Audigy believes the sound from the plane is very far away from me so it plays it at a very low volume. However, it never gets closer to me regardless of what I do.

Does FSOne use EAX or anything like that?? I have got to think it does since the sound from the recorded planes move around my speakers. Although the music goes from nornal to very quiet ever few seconds I don't think the sound or the music every actually "cut off".

Just for the knowledge of others, my first install went fine and I was flying without glitches after having to turn down the graphics just a little.

Running:

Dell Inspiron 9200 laptop
Windows XP
1.6 GHz Pentium M
512 MB Ram
ATI Radeon 9700 series

One question, I bought this specifically for the Blade CP....is there any upcoming options to be able to edit for Bell-Hiller upgrades, aerobatic enhancement/lipo, etc.?

I am using a Futaba 6XA and/or a G2/G3 controller for all of my simulator use since the FS ONE Mode 1 controllers are not yet shipping.
...... and I fly Mode 1.

Figuring out the proper channels/Axis was trial and error.. Would be nice to have a list of
which axis is which.. I do undestand the difference in mapping between JR and Futaba, but determining which AXIS was
related to which channel or button was trial and error.

However, I finally have it working with FS ONE... but I am unable to get a setup that will work "properly" with Retracts.
All retract aircraft sit on the runway with gear up.

I am using the left hand 2 position switch on the Fut 6XAS, which FS One sees, for two flight conditions.
but FS One does not seem to recognize any other switches on the transmitter.

If I try to use a Custom Button on the Keyboard for retracts, it seems to want to use up one or two of the
positions that are being used on the Flight Condition Switch. So it seems that I can use the only switch that FS ONE sees for Flight conditions OR retracts.

and if I use Custom Switch 6, it does work the retracts, but it also simulataneously changes the flight modes.
If I use Button 0 then it works properly and does not affect the flight modes. But there is some interaction
between Custom Button 6 and flight modes... I do not have any other mixes programed. Everything else is default.
But if I do use custom button 0, then I lose at least one of the combinations on the Flight Condition Switch, since the retracts uses at least one
of the AXIS/Button Slots that were used for the Flight Condition Switch.

and If I do give up the flight conditions and use that switch retracts, or if I use a Custom Button for retracts, the servo only moves
half the normal distance. I cannot seem to get full throw on the servo.

I also tried using a Mode 1 GP G2/G3 xmtr controller, and got that to work but ran into the same problem for retracts.
I called Horizon Support and they are workng on the issue, but have no solution yet.

I assume that without additional documentation, that I am doing something wrong here. Do you have any suggestions?

Is there any way to get FS One to recognize any of the other switches on the Transmitter?

And a few issues that I am having on a random basis:
1.) I randomly see the program quit back to the desktop.. It has happened when trying to edit a xmtr, and when trying to playback an existing flight recording.

2.) Strange behavior when using the G2/G3 controller.
It seems to be working fine during flight, but randomly the simulator pauses to a grey screen and says that it cannot locate the USB interface.
I then click ok, it is keeps right on working. Other times, the same thing happens, but I get a message saying I cannot fly without the FS one interface.
Again.. if I click OK, it takes me back to the FS One Menus. In both of these cases (using the G2/G3 controller) I have the FS One USB interface plugged directly into one USB port.
and the controller plugged into a 2nd USB port, both directly on the computer, no hub is involved.

And lastly... FYI - I am running FS one on two computers. One is an HP Desktop and the other (surprise) is an Apple MacPRO Dual Dual Core desktop, using Bootcamp and Windows XP Home.
The software seems to behave identically on both machines, so that tends to rule out the video card, since they are both different.. The Mac is using the 7300 video card and has 4 gigs of memory.
The good news is that it works on the Mac as well as it does on the HP, other than the above noted anomolies.

Sorry.. I realize that this is a lot to digest in a single post.

Thank you,
Harley
