FS One by Hangar 9

This worked for someone else on another thread:
"Stop FS One (quit the program). Unplug the USB Interface from the computer. Wait. Listen for the standard USB beep. Plug in the USB. You should hear the beep. Then plug in the TacCon controller to the USB Interface. Then start FS One. Pick the interface using the "Select Interface" button (on fly page). The Hangar9 interface should be in the list. Pick it. Now calibrate the TacCon controller."
Does this above help?
A question I have is when you get to the Single-Player Freestyle page, and click on "Select Interface", is the Hangar9 USB interface there and selected? It should be there.

When I referred to you as a staunch G3 supporter before, I was understating. After combing these threads for opinions of ALL the sims, I'd have to say you're G3 obsessed. What made me post this is that after reading so many of your posts, by the time I read this one I *had* to think "This guy MUST have G3 tatooed somewhere on his body, and that tat is seeping somthing similar to liquid happiness into his bloodstream".
I owned G3 for a few months, running version .430, and did enjoy it. Was a great game. What I'm interested in however is a great *sim*. I'll echo GeneG in that I progressed very rapidly in my 3D flying skills within G3 and could do it all; hover, I could mush around in an upright harrier all day long, rolling harrier 360's to the left and to the right scant inches off the deck. However, in the really real world (I'm far from novice, been flying IMAC patterns for years....just new to 3D) I couldn't even hover. I have since learned to hover very well, learned to deal with wing rock in an upright harrier and can even do rollers (in a straight line so far) and for grins went into the LHS to see how G3 felt by comparison. It was easy to fall into the old habits I'd acquired and everything was so easy. The problem is that the old G3 habits do not reflect my real world experiences.
My hope was/is that fsone can harness that realism so that my skills don't have to atrophy in the off-season. G3 was a lot of fun, I enjoyed it, but it wasn't the ticket to realism I had hoped. If fsone feels like G3 then I'm not interested, and certainly not if it's *worse*. I just have a hard time objectively viewing fsone commentary from someone who's living the G3 dream.

) It's because I feel that it's the best sim.(G3.5 is really awsome!) FSone has a few problems right now, but I fully expect that within a year, it will be fixed. From what I saw of it in my LHS, I think that it will be an incredible sim very soon. Michael Selig and everyone around him have done a terrific job on it and I'm very impressed by this product as a first offering. I will probably always be a G3 fan due to all my friends being on multiplayer, but I may get FSone when I get back into flying RC planes. I know that when G3 first came out, part of the hype was that it was harder to fly than reality. Now G3 has softened a bit. FSone is a bit harder to fly than G3. Now that I think about it, I will probably buy FSone. I'm always striving to be a better pilot. Like I've said in other threads, the real issue with any sim is the editor. If the editor in FSone passes my expectations, then I'm 99% sure I will buy it.Now I'm going to get off this thread until I own FSone.......

I too flew the sim today at the LHS. I fly a Funtana .90, so it seemed natural to try it on the sim. It flew just like the real thing. My throttle is different due to having a Saito 1.20 in my model. I hovered the sim at 5/8 throttle. Mine will do it at 1/2. Now I know how it flys will the Saito 100.
I need FSOne.

I agree with 50%, FSOne is a solid product. The flight characteristics are much better than what I remember G3's being like when it first came out. FSOne is rough around the edges and could have used another 6 months of development. Perhaps Intertiasoft should take a page from Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, and open up a semi-public "Beta" of the product in order to get feedback and work out issues, rather than selling the product full of bugs and making it's paying customers beta users.
The only real gripe I have are the 3D graphics, which are not better than G3.

Hi Michael, no, looks like nothing is helping, I uninstalled the program and re-installed it, reinstalled the MB USB 2.0 driver, only other devices I have plugged in are my printer and scanner, both (USB) and a flight yoke (Virtual Pilot Pro) along with rudder pedals but they are connected to the game port on the Soundblaster board. I unplugged them all and the only device hooked up is this usb interface. As mentioned before, the only screen I ever get trying to run the program is the error message window I see no other screen displays. I will play a little with it today and if nothing good happens I will call support tomorrow I am wondering if maybe something is wrong with this USB interface box, it is a dongle isn't it ??? Thanks a lot to you all for your suggestions.... Manny

Hey Manny, not sure if you've tried this yet, but go to your control panel and then click on the "game controllers" icon. Do you see the TacCon displayed there? If so, click on the properties button. There may be a couple boxes on the properties screen that represent the movement of the game controller. When moving the sticks on the TacCon, does anything happen on the screen? If not, then perhaps the TacCon is defective.

I installed FS One. Very awesome physics. Only flaw I can find is in knife edge flight. Doesn't seem to generate enough side lift. Other than that, perfect flight characteristics. Could use a few more aircraft... hopefully that will come soon.

It should be "Hangar9 FS One v1" and the status should be OK. Is this what you are seeing?

Anyone having trouble with the sound cutting out? I am down to minimal graphics and not playing music but the engine sound keeps skipping. Doesn't affect flight/graphics performance but is certainly aggravating.

the side force (using the editor) I can outline some steps
to do that.
There are more airplanes than you might be aware of.
In addition to the airplanes in the default list (first category),
there's a second category that includes variants of the 30 or so
originals. There are over 70 additional variants (airplanes) in FS
One. They range from a 3-inch span Aerobird Xtreme to an electric
ducted-fan park flyer BVM Bobcat jet up to many full-size airplanes like
the Ultimate aerobatic biplane with a constant-speed propeller just like
full-scale. In each case, the Scaling Wizard scales the model size,
mass, propulsion system, aerophysics, etc. Everything is automatic, but
you can selectively override the auto-scaling and change the airplane
weight, motor, propeller, etc to your specifications to match a known
model or create an entirely new airplane based on one of the originals.
There's now a new FAQ item that includes the full list of ~70 variants:
I heard about the 30 plus airplanes and helis in the sim, but where are
the 70 extra scaled variants? (Q1021-FS1, 10/15/06)

Hi, Brian, riotgear. Thanks for the reply. When I go to the 'Game Controllers" window via the control panel this is what I get. when I plug in the FS One controller interface I get the usual beep and at the same time see a device being added to the controllers window. The TacCon is being identified as, ... ( 8 axis 0 button device with a status of OK). I click on properties and get a test window. In it I am able to visually to see 7 different patterns, one of which is a square with the cross hair in the middle the other 6 are vertical (Red) bars with the following labels beneath them,...( The square.. Xaxis/Yaxis ), ( Red color bars.. Zax.., Xro.., Yro.., Zro.. Dial, Slid.. ). Each of the controls on the TacCon do change its corresponding display in the previously mentioned patterns. .... Manny

At this point, we at least now know what is happening.
Let me test a few things and get back to you. I may have a fix that involves using RegEdit. Have you used RegEdit before?

Hi Brian, I assume you might be talking about the registry. I have done some simple editing to the registry before, so when you figure out what has to be done, lets give it a try.... Thanks... Manny

I believe that I have a fix for your problem, and I started writing out the instructions, but it's a bit too involved to post and I think it's best to talk through the problem with customer service so as to avoid any registry problems. However, I will talk with FS One customer service reps early on Monday morning (Oct-16th) and fill them in on the solution so they can pass it along to you or other users that call in for help.
This issue is quite rare (in fact, we never saw it in a year and a half of testing), but unfortunately not rare enough. I have heard of a similar problem with other sim USB interfaces so it seems no one is immune and we all encounter this on rare occasions. It appears to be a Windows-related (registry) issue and is not anything particular to FS One or the USB interface.
If, after speaking with FS One customer service, the fix does not work for you, please post again and I'll look deeper into things. If the fix does work for you, please post so we know it worked out well.
Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you.

just intalled FS One late last night and played around with it for about an hour. It installed easily and performs great even without the first patch installed. I am using the TacCon and it calibrated with out any issues and works great. I do not have much experince with any other sims, but I do a few of the aircraft included in the sim and they are very accurate to the real thing. I am very happy with the way it is running, and I think that it will help me greatly. Oh yeah, and some people have been complaining about issues with the helis. Mine work fine and fly great, just wondering what the problems are. If anyone is intrested I'm running a 2.8ghz P4, 1gig ram, and a ATI 9800 Pro 128mb graphics card. Also, thanks for the great support.

Hi Brian,
Any chance you are working on the sound problem? I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card (most recent drivers) and the music keeps cutting out. I can't even hear the engine sounds at all even with the music off. I tried to remove hardware acceleration but it made no difference.
I am also having a problem with not being able to exit from the flying screen. No keys seem to work (including esc). On those rare instances that I do get back to the menu if I try to change planes, etc it just crashes with the Windows "Program Crashed would you like to report it to microsoft" error.
I tried diffferent video driver versions and it changed the behavior (but the problem exists through all versions) so Im guessing its realted to that. I am on an SLI equiped pc with the most recent (and other less recent for testing) Nvida drivers.
Thanks in advance!
