Hi All About to start build on v3 tornado and have question on installing the fuel tank. I notice that some people had to trim one of the bulkheads so that the fuel tank can be installed as far rearward as possible how is the tank secured? The directions says to use goop do you just blab the goop on the bottom of fuse Thanks Bill

dcala, I built the V3 with the composite booms and I did not have to remove any of the bulk heads for it to fit. The tanks stops against one of the last bulk heads on the turbine end and I created a tray that rest against it on the stopper end. My tank is removable if needed.

What I did is put a lip in front of the canopy and drilled the back for a single bolt into a captive nut nice and easy

Hey Guys,
Can any body tell me or put up pics of how to set up the canopy to the plastic tub, & how they hold it on to the fuse, I'm sure this has been shown on this site before but there is so many pages of ref to the Tornado it would take me days to go through it to find the page on fitting canopy to tub / fuse.
Thanks.

After much reading and literally sitting on this model for a year i decided to complete the build, and one of the issues is 8 screws for assembly at the field ... not an attractive option, but there is a way to narrow it down to 4... i replaced the wing bolts with shoulder bolts groved a slot and epoxied collars into the fuse, slip the wing it tighten the collars, take less than a minuite, picked up this hint off someone building the f-86

I could remove the wings but that seems to be a real pain. The horizonal stab is glued.

I saw someone did a single control line for the steering instead of a pull pull, wondering if anyone has pics? mine seems to be rubbin on the front wheel well alot

Heat shrink the long part of a cable tie to the cables, it will pull them apart when retracted and offer practically no resistance to the retract mechanism.

As Mike suggested cable tie method works good but personally never a fan of working the steering with "two bits of string". One thing makes me laugh guys spending £500+ on retracts then working the steering with string!
I have used this modification on a few conventional push/pull systems, you need to make a right angled steering arm, and fit to it one of those aileron torque rod eyes so it can slide on your steering arm. Reason for this is when the leg retracts the pushrod is not effected.
You can then simply fit a clevis/ball link to your pushrod and mount your servo where you want. I normally try to mount close to the leg but in case of the tornado it can be in the same place on the equipment tray.
Second pic is off similar fitted to elan but shows leg retracted

Well seems like i had too much tension finally on the pull pull wires, stopping the gear from locking in flight. Lets just say steering sucks on landing without a nosewheel.
Anyone know if the v3 retracts will fit the "v3+" or f86? or if they can be cut doen to fit?

Hey guys!
I've hit the wall, not literally, but figuratively on my build and don't see me finishing my project. The only thing I have left to do on my Tornado V3 is install power system, fuel lines and air lines and that's it!!! The nice landing gear is installed, the K100G is mounted, that only has maybe 15 minutes of run time on it, servos are installed and wired. It would take maybe a good long day or 2 to finish this bad boy to get it flying. I just don't have the time nor ambition to see it through, don't even know why I bit on the Christmas special but I did and now it's just sitting there. If anyone is interested in a smoke'n deal on this bad boy, I'm willing to cut it loose for a one time low price. Let me know!!
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Guys,
Long thread thisn one is, read through it all.
Just had a quick question,
Once Flaps are deployed what is the effect on Pitch?
Is a significant amount of down elevator reqd?
Cheers

It will depend on amount of flap you have, I experimented with amount of flap deflection that worked for me, I have about 5mm down elevator but also have aileron reflex (crow braking) as well.
I found it takes quite a few flights to get it all setup right
