I was able to strip down the turbine as was discribed. The brgs look in excellent condition. I strongly believe that the problem is with the preloading. However, I ran across a bigger issue. Upon removing the turbine from the housing, I noticed a piece of the CC & lots of small burnt pieces. It tuned out that the inner part of CC was deteriorating - that would explain the few "sparks" I saw. I was told that the turbine had INCONEL CC, so I don't know what happened. So I will be sending it back to Gabe at JetJoeUS for repair. I hope it will be covered under warranty. The funny thing was it was running great the whole time. Idle at ~40k @ 498-500 deg & FT at ~160k @ 618-625 deg. It had a total of 18 cycles & 165 min.

I wonder if this is a re-badged JetJoe?
Looks like a JJ-1400 but they call it a JLT750.

It looks like the JJ's imported by Models Engines into OZ

Shame with all the thousands of colours available they have to use Wrens.

Hey,

Anyone have experience with either the 1200 or the 1400 in the .46 size 51" Nitroplanes bobcat?

I know they fly well, justt wondering what kind of performance I could expect out of one of thes motors.

Thanks,

Brian

The Falcon 120 is a MUCH better choice for 54 sized turbine!

Yeah, just a lot more money. Once you add up the retracts, high torque servos, and the fact the engine is twice as much when you go from the 1200 to the 1400. I could go with the fill manual start 1200 for $800 on the smaller jet. A friend has the 120 and says its very heavy.

Well maybe you should save up your money for a while longer and then get a good match instead of "Well this is all I can afford plane. Ya don't need retracts or high power servos with the Falcon 120 buddy! Ask me how I know.....HS225 are hardly high power! In fact the servo pockets in the booms are sized for HS81 servos.

Yeah you are right, I have a Kangaroo with a Ram 750, so was looking for something smaller as just a beater(even thought my kangaroo is beater for most people. haha)

I have the 1400 in my nitro bobcat, great combination goes ballistic, rockets off grass and my turbine is not putting out the thrust quoted, weight without fuel is 9lb I never fitted retracts for simplicity.

Cool, thanks...any vids. How you think it would be with the 1200 and manual start to save some weight of the on board start?

1200 will be ideal, my engine is putting out less than 12lb so a 1200 putting out what it should will be very good indeed

Hi,
I'm trying to get opinions on the JJ-1800. It seems that almost all of the discussion here is on the 1200 and 1400. Can anyone share their experiences with the new 1800?

Thanks, Ken

I have run a couple of auto start 1800s on the bench run good with decent spoolup times. Start sequence to idle in 15 seconds or less.

So Gabe from JetJoeUS replaced my jj1400 CC with the "new style" design - which supposed to run cooler. The engine runs great except at idle (set at 45k) it appears to "crackle & pop". Also, there seems to be a hot spot at the 2 o'clock position (looking from the rear). What's the cause of the "crackling & poping" at idle? I've read of this problem on other manufacturer's turbine as well, i.e., Artes...How can I eliminate the hot spot?

Cracking & popping at idle is usually incomplete fuel vaporization from a voporization stick. A drip will form and release all at once.

How do you eliminate it then? Would this also be the cause for the hot spot?

I have a JJ1800 I bought a couple of months ago. I ran it fot the first time this past weekend. I have the semi- auto version. My first start attempt I couldn't get the propane lit, even with what I thought was a freshly charged Ni- starter. I changed the plug to the same type I use in my other turbines and it lit. It idled at 30k rpms as advertised. I could only get 96k rpms at full throttle as opposed to the advertised 115k. I almost certain that this was due to my fuel pump/ ecu battery not being fully charged. The HDT was indicating around 6.7 volts at full throttle. Also, I hadn't charged the battery since I had it. I ran it just to make sure it would run. I'll run it again this weekend with everything fully charged and post my results as far as full throttle rpms. I guess in a nutshell, I'm very happy with it. It appears to be a good engine. It's a gas guzzler unlike my Wren.

Not sure if its normal, but a lot of the engines I have seen do that at idle.

I agree that the idle popping is usually not a big deal as long as it is minor popping. To cure it, you need to take apart the turbine and re-point the fuel needles (the ones on the vaporization tubes that are dripping) so that they are squirting fuel properly into the vaporization tubes in such a way that you get full vaporization before the fuel/air enters the primary combustion zone. Best left to an expert on that engine.
