Can you quantify this statement.

Here in the U.S. , the JJ's popularity grows by leaps and bounds.

to check starter alignment make a simple tool on a lathe. Make it to to barly slip over front nut. Remover starter motor and push in tool to check alignment. To profile the legs of your starter mount to your front cover turn a piece of 3" pastic pipe to mount front cover. hot glue 3 or 4 pieces of emery cloth to front cover and spin in lathe. hold nose of tool in chuck with starter base on tool legs facing cover. sand legs agaist spinning front cover. mount cover on motor. remove emery cloth and put masking tape on where legs meet. Put tool through starter mount. slip nose of tool over nut and trace legs with fine pen. center punch with sping loaded punch .
after mounting slip in tool. It should slide easy over front nut.
if it is off some you can reverse the tool to "tweak " the front cover.

I have two jj1800 full auto start
One destroyed it self on take off (saved the boomerang XL) the unit seized the rear bearing and I don’t believe it is worth repairing and neither does JJ
sent it to jj for warrenty was sent back unrepaired with quote of $900 (approx) only the outer case and starter are left.
Mounted the second in the boomer and rear bearing on this one began to rattle after two flights.
Have tossed them under the bench for a later project. Maybe

I report on the Post #: 1663 that the 2 bearings are not precharged on the jj-1800 due to the two o-ring. The spacer how make the precharge after the spring don't slide smoothly!
For information You don't have to open the turbine engine to check the preload. Just push from the front the compressor nut, it must move ~1mm rear and when you release it must come back the initial position due to the preload spring and spacer inside.
Sorry for my english

hi goldcoast
thanks for that your english is ok with me
the first engine went from 115000rpm to 0 in 1 second so it twisted the internals of the turbine. the burn chamber main shalft and both wheels are not to flash

Thanks for the info and drawings Idleup.
I started to look at doing what DW crash suggested and when I had it all apart I thought why not check the way it is already with the square method.
So i put the housing on a flat surface with a square to the side/behind and slowly rotated it until I identified which way it was off, I then gave it a little "tweak" and checked again.
I now have it perfectly square but it may still be off center, but this method works really well to get it vertical.
Going to turn up a dummy motor with a point and then slide it through the housing and see if it meets with the center of the spinner nut. If not then I will have to re-drill using Idleups method I think.
Thanks again all the different suggestions got me thinking in the right direction.

Woket,I dont think that Lynch even has his JJ for his copycat 120 yet. He is just one of those guys that thinks that there is a huge conspiracy by we elitist turbine types to keep the fun to ourselves by keeping the peoples turbine suppressed. Scott

I like theses little engines (i have a tjt300 and a wren 200xl) but I just want them to be a little more reliable

Made up a tool last last similar to what idelup suggested, I went with a turned point so I could see exactly how it lined up.
My starter housing was vertical but offset one way as I suspected. see picture. I was able then to tweak (bend, push, hammer) it until I got the point lining up in the middle of the spinner nut.
Made the tool 24.3mm dia and is a nice sliding fit in the housing. The small diameter is 14mm to fit through the hole, other dimensions are not that critical.
Tried my starter and it lines up lovely now, new problem was it was too far in as when I tightened up the starter bullet cover it pushed the motor in too far, (I think the new motor I have the bendix is further out on the starter shaft) ended up fitting a 3mm washer under each of the housing legs and then had to align it again.
Have it all fitted in again and might get to fire it up tonight.

If you had read much here you'd know I've assisted JJ owners and also a JJ rep to get their turbines up and running reliably. I'm allowed my 2 cents on this thread as I've had four JJs (but not any more). I'll put up or shut up, if you and 19 others here will post £20 each to a named modorator. Then I'll post the proof [8D]with a picture of the chinese turbine wheel minus a lost fin at 160,000 rpm [:-]
The monies will all go to the jet jockey who has a box of scrap metal.
Hey Jim you could put up the whole $400 yourself if you think its only bashing and patently not true.

Fired it up last night, still cut at 25K then realised I had fitted the fuel valve plug on the gas valve pins
after correcting that he fired up perfect.
My big concern with getting the starter alignment perfect was to stop it jamming on the turbine nut and effectivily becoming a generator and blowing the ecu.
Then I realised when looking through the ecu manual, the ecu shuts the power to the motor (at 30k in my case) and then applies a brake (reverse) so that would release it from the spinner cone, so long of course that the starter is the correct distance back.

The OS f plug works fine too as rcdriver22 said. Really work well in one with less than pefect glow plug hole alingment. The smaller smooth section helps with getting the plug to start in the glow plug threads straight.
