thank you , apologize accepted. i'm not looking for a pitty party because i was born with something i have no control over. it's a pride thing. i get tried of people staring because you walk funny or get critisized because you don't work. i just get defensive over the whole disablity thing . i was just saying that i thought some of the hobby stuff is over priced. i love jets. after flying 1/4 scale ww2 stuff for years i wanted a bigger challange. i will have to choke on the cost if i want to be involed. i , in no way was attacking your lifestyle or anyone else's i was just venting my opinon ,nothing more. i'm looking forward to getting to some jet meets up here in the north east and maybe even doing one locally at our airport. hope to see you guys around and pick up some pointers from ya'll . thanks again , WB1

Warbird---You can get around some of the high costs of jet modeling by just doing a little homework. (I was going to say legwork but didn't know if you would see my poor attempt at humor to try to ease up some of the tension accumulated in earlier posts..
) Anyway---You can make your own UAT for about ten bucks if you search here on RCU---You can avoid paying $11 and up for a $7 tube of hysol if you contact your local maintenance supply shops---You could purchase one of the wood kits to save some dough..Just some examples...
There are some things that are going to be a given that will be high priced, like the turbine for example...But you can find good deals on used turbines if you search hard enough...I bought a P-120 with 10 hours on it for $1,100 less that a new one and another with ZERO time on it as it had just been back to JetCat for a check-up and put back as new for the same price as the other that I bought. Since I have a couple of new sons now my modeling $$$ goes in that direction now...I could buy 3 JetCat Titans a year with what I am now paying for daycare!!!...Point being is that a lot of us are modeling on a budget...I probably haven't told you anything that you probably don't already know. I just don't want a newcomer to jets to get too discouraged by all of the talk of $10,000 jets---You can purchase a nice machine for less that half of that if you do some bargain hunting!!!
About your picture---No wonder you walk funny---If I wore some tight "panties" like that I would not only walk funny but have a high pitched voice as well!!!
---For what it's worth I walk a little funny too due to an injury that keeps getting worse....
About Adil's and David's Rhinos---What fabulous pieces of work!!!! Adil---Can you show us a few pics of the entire plane???
Kevin

rofl !!!!!!! the panites thing lol !!!! thanks for the advice. i'm lucky enough to own a nib p-120 but the cost of all the crap to get it flying is hard to digest. i think that's because i've always scratch built everything and you don't have to lay down 2 grand in one shot, though o have to admitt there's a lot of nice stuff out there

I'll try and see if I can get some. Its a big plane and keeping it together is a pain in a narrow workshop. Currently its in pieces as I'm installing all the stuff. If it wasn't this cold around here recently, I'd do it in a heartbeat..

Warbird 1, I made a classic mistake of rushing the build to get the plane to the painter and then rushing the install upon getting back painted. I forgot to inspect the wing servo mounts and I only tacked the mounts in prior to painting the plane. Well 1 minute into the flight and the servo's let go. [&o]
I can not give an evaluation on the short flight I had....[&o]

awww SH** that's a shame ! ! i remember years ago i had a favorite wing man. p-40 that i forgot to check the alieron servo direction before a flight and i lost it. the plane didn't have the value of your gripen for sure ,but i sure beat myself up for not preflighting before taking off. i had just put the radio back in it .
i also built a brand new boomerang xl for a friend . on the first landing , just before rolling level the radio went into failsafe and the plane did a slow turn into the ground. that was a the pocono airport this past september. i do feel your pain. i remeber seeing your plane on skymaster's website i think . that was an awsome paint job .just beautiful !!

i did see the video the f-4 flying. it looked rock solid flying. i wondering if it has the flying brick feeling like the fulscale counterpart did when landing. i'd think not. going by the big ww2 stuff i flew. a lot of models don't compair to the full scale real world.

Sh_t happens and we move on. I learned an expensive lesson and I will not make the same mistake twice!
We all make mistakes and we will continue to make them, we get lazy as time goes by and we take short cuts but this is how we learn what not to do the next time.....

heres why the servos fell out of Alan's Grippen wings !!!
[X(]
the 8611 servos are still out in the hay field , so if you want to save a few $, you can probably still find them ... if you watch the video, you can probably figure out a general vicinity by their trajectory after the departed the plane

Dave, MNModels and who ever has flown it,
What do you guys think about the landing gear strength? IE, struts, retracts, wheels, brakes, mouniting plates etc... I've learned that some jets do really well with a little extra "attention" in those areas. Since I've got one comin', I'd like your opinion.
Thanks,
Raf

There are so few kits in circulation right now that you will probably not get a lot of flight info.
Mine kit is in transit and I am looking forward to getting my hands on it.

It still amazes me the things people say, when they have absolutely no idea what the spit they're talking about. I am the only person in USA who has flown this plane and made a landing with it. So unless you were at Desert Jet Storm the day before the event and saw me land this plane you're talking out of your ****. I have photos and video of the flight, the landing, and the results.
First the landing was not hard, the gear did not rip out, the front plate simply pulled out because there was no glue in the joint when it was ASSEMBLED at the factory. The photo below shows the instant of touchdown and the right gear is clearly leaning backwards because gear plate has pulled out. The next photos show the front gear plate out of its slot and the absence of any glue within the joint to hold it.The last photo shows the poor quality of the plywood used, the plys simply peeled apart and showed the absence of any glue holding them together.
If you look closely at the first photo you will notice the left gear is not even compressed yet, yet the right plate has pulled out. So much for the hard landing!
Raf, in answer to your questions, I am very impressed with the quality of the landing gear, wheels and brakes and the kit overall. This kit is preproduction and the landing gear mounts are insufficient to withstand the weight and landing speeds of this aircraft. It is my understanding that Anton has made changes to the production model in this area but as I have not actually seen the new installation I cannot comment.
Alan, were you in Phoenix on Thursday Feb 8th to see me fly this plane?
