Richard is correct. I did indeed enter the counter bet with him as I thought there was a 50/50 chance that Harry would succeed on this second attampt as he had been in contact with the Thorpe guys and had learned much from them. So I decided to make the counter bet so that it would even out the loss. Does not matter anyway, casue the money is irrelevant. We do this for the unimaginably HUGE amount of enjoyment we derive from the unending crap we get to continue to lay upon Harry! PulseJet Harry LIVES!!!!

I have been working with this horribly temperamental dynajet for some time and have just competed the tuning, somehow, it works fine now. anyway, theoretically speaking, we believe (that is my aero-engineer "Smarter" brother and I) may have a throttling design that might work. It uses a control system that regulates pressure in the head. Its in the design process right now, but you can email for more info. This is for an atomizing pulse jet, not an injected one. Also, there may be a way to use ram-air to the engines advantage (hopefully bringing the 4.5 lb thrust dynajet up to 8-12) Therefore eliminating the need for a chute over the head. Again, who knows, but it has its possibilities.

Hi there,
just coming along and saying hello.
Try the following links and you see what is going on in Germany in the field of pulsojet:

You know reading this thread reminds me of the time I poked a hole in the side of a 2 liter coke bottle, poured in a little rubbing alchohol, and held a lighter up to the main opening.
I recall a blue flame as it shot down the hallway into my friends living room. Heck we thought it was so cool we did it until the bottle melted lol.

Whats the smallest pulse jet engine you have seen that 'works'? I heard of one that is 2 inches long and half inch in diameter, it did work from what this guy tells me. But how much thrust would that thing make?

Pulsejet Harry's does work, and is most funny when you see him do so! But, he couldn't finish breaking an egg! (or any plane he builds) good stuff! As for the smallest, have no clue......

My partner and I obtained a Robbe F-15 kit (intended for a .25 size glow engine) and mounted a pulse jet underneath it. It flew a little faster than a Nelson powered Quickie racer but not as fast as my Formula 1 racers. It had fixed gear with big wheels so it had substantial drag. We got 9 1/2 great flights out of it. Some nice video, too.
That particular Dynajet has since been repaired and I managed to get a brand-new-never-been-started Dynajet into my arsenal.
I'll build another plane for the Pulse jets someday.
Cheers,
Bob Edison

What happened was...
While I was on downwind, getting ready to do a low pass, I noticed the starting crew was still on the runway (they normally move way off to the side after start & release). I took my eyes off the plane and "communicated" the situation to them. During the time period in which I was "communicating" to the crew (maybe 1 or 2 seconds), the plane had gotten further away and, more importantly, had, without my noticing, done a half roll. So now the plane is inverted and, being it's both small AND far away, I proceeded to ROLL IT INTO A TURN AND PULL UP ELEVATOR ON A LOW-FLYING, FAST, UPSIDE DOWN, PERFECTLY GOOD AIRPLANE!!! My next maneuver was the famous "Smoking Hole".
Yes, I know it was my fault and I was embarrassed, humbled and jeered at. (I also know I ended the phrase/sentence with a preposition...too bad!)
What a hoot that airplane was!

Yes, pulse jets are throttleable (new word??). The man's name was Hans Olarius if I remember correctly, and he had a much bigger engine than your average Dynajet (approx. 6 -7" in diam. by about 3 ft. long. It was flown in an Me163 Komet by his cohort, Jorg Vogelslang (not sure if last name is correct, or even spelled correct -my apologies!) The throttling went from about 20% to full, and was done with a dialysis(spelling?) pump.
It was a good sized model, and apparently went like snot...
Sadly, I believe Mr. Olarius has passed away...
Might post a coupla picks from scale jet if I can find the issue.

Mark Pauline of "Survival Research Laboratories" builds all sorts of outrageous bits, and has a hovercraft with pulsejets for direction and thrust.
Seeing this thing in person is an amazing experience. But his jets are HUGE, way too large for planes, although he does seem to have the throttling worked out.
