Aftermarket ECUS ???
So anybody start producing aftermarket ECUs for engines yet?
maybe a universal ECU you just program your engine values into?
It would make things easier to "standardize" the aircraft with.....
Any suggestions?
Anything new coming in this area?

RE: Aftermarket ECUS ???
I think Gaspars FADEC is the nearest you will get to a DIY program yourself ECU. I think they can supply them unlocked so you program things like starter motor voltage, the temp gas turns off and what RPM to turn the starter off. All the things you can't normally get into with most ECU's.

RE: Aftermarket ECUS ???
I was in contact with Orbit last week and they can no longer supply their ECU as it is now the ECU used with the Graupner Booster engines.
I think ths only leaves the Gasper Fadec.

RE: Aftermarket ECUS ???
Start and run times.?????..........
ECU data is hardly any indication of the condition of any jet engine good or bad.
It won't tell you that the engine was run through the trees, and crashed
in a COMP arf mig 15 in Delray beach florida, by an englishmen, with witnesses,
and then ponded off to someone. in California... with grass stains
and bent compressor blades...... as newly factory rebuilt and never flown.
heck you can zero time
a jetcat ecu just by holding the menu button down for 1 minute till all the leds all flash together
(at least on the older models) wiping out the run times.
thanks for th input guys...

I will check into the Gasper Fadec.
The AMT 280 has magnet type rpm sensors as well.
thanks for th input guys...

RE: Aftermarket ECUS ???
Thats very true........... as since I'm a buyer of turbine engines
and usually the one getting screwed by some unethical SOB (only 1 out of 10 buys so far)
and having to pay to fix the engine someone ripped my off on.....
and not a seller of turbines.....I've had no trouble using this forum
to track down what engine was in who's aircraft when they
ran it through the fawna and into the terra firma...... crash news travels fast.
It would be great to have an engine database of serial numbers,
aircraft accidents, what engines were in those aircraft as so the jet engine
" Buyers" won't get screwed buying a FODed out engine.
It could be part of the safety officers report to the AMA,
and if your shown to be crashing alot of jets..
the AMA could pull his turbine wavier and save the "rest of us" responsible pilots.
Yes I needed to vent, a little......
But back to ECU's........ anybody got a Page for Gaspars FADEC that works?
